Museum Re-Opens
The Museum of Wigan Life re-opened last weekend after
being shuttered throughout the pandemic. In addition
to the permanent exhibitions featuring Roman Wigan,
Egyptology and early local trade, there will be two
temporary exhibitions for visitors.
gerrumonside! celebrates the passion of rugby league
past, present & future. Learn how Wigan, Leigh and
Tyldesley broke away from the Rugby Football Union in
1895 and formed the Northern Union.
You can see original memorabilia never seen before, and
more unusual items from the world of Rugby League
including an original turnstile from Central Park.
Rebels, Radicals, Reform: The Fight for Better is the second
temporary exhibition and brings to life the many causes
the people of Wigan Borough have campaigned and
fought for over the past 600 years, from the Jacobites,
Diggers and Peterloo, to the miners strike of the 1980’s.
Entry to the museum, which is based on Library Street,
is free of charge and the opening hours are Tuesday to
Saturday 10am-4pm.
Fayre Returns
Wigan and Leigh Hospice’s annual festive fayre is back for
2021. The fayre will be held in the grounds of the hospice
on Kildare Street in Hindley, this Saturday 4th December.
In addition to the 30-ft tall Light for a Life tree, you’ll be
able to see the 5000 Lights project featuring 60 Christmas
trees in the hospice grounds. Each tree is available to
sponsor, and either features a plaque dedicated to
someone special or is sponsored by a local business.
Admission is free and the fayre runs from 12noon to 6pm.
