This issue features artisans from our first Seaside
Artisan Market. We have all been faced with the
challenge to survive in these daunting times.
Faced with a global pandemic, the world
economy had been shut down from
country to country and our little twin
island republic was not spared. Small
businesses struggled to survive after
being locked down for months, but
finally they had the opportunity to come
out and try to get a hold on the market
once again. Beaches were still closed
however we were able to be blessed with
this venue right on the beach front. The
experience was beautiful as all patrons
and artisans enjoyed the event by the seaside. They
all look forward to us having another one.

I have been involved in jewelry making for over 10 years
however I started dabbling in resin in late 2018 as I was
eager to create an aesthetic that was not seen before in
Trinidad and Tobago. It started with a couple of bottles of
alcohol inks, resin and a go getter type of attitude. Today
the foundation remains the same but the techniques and
materials that I use have expanded to include wood,
flowers and molds galore.
Nature has been a tremendous source of inspiration
to me, in fact it's what inspired the name of my business
BOTA (Birds of the Air) Designs. The birds are provided for
on a daily basis and so I trust in the God who provides for
them to provide for me. Aspects of local culture, flora
and fauna however have taken a prominent spotlight in
my designs especially the hummingbirds, which
everyone loves.
In five years time, I would like to expand the resin based
business to not only feature jewelry but also home decor
such as coasters, cake stands and statement centerpieces
for tables. I would also like to teach others the tips and
tricks of working with resin and even design and produce
my own line of molds for resin making lovers.
Besides having an education, having a skill in this
life would always be to our advantage. So, to the budding
artisans, your skill, whatever it may be, don't bury it,
develop and perfect it. Now more than ever our country
needs this type of economic stimulation and it begins
with you, your innovative ideas and of course that leap of
faith.

We are a small business started about 6 years ago by
myself and my husband after I lost my job. My
husband was working full time while I was doing my
degree part time and we both worked in the
business. We grew our business going to different
markets and introducing our samosas and cakes to
customers. It was a lot of hard work but it was so
rewarding because of the support and enthusiasm we
got from customers. My husband eventually left his
job the same year, I finished my degree and we both
worked full-time growing our business.
We started doing regular types of samosas but
eventually came up with our own types. From savory
favourites like the Chilli Garlic Vegetable and Spinach
Mushroom to sweet dessert samosas like the
Chocolate Creme, the Chai Latte or the Sorrel Jelly.
We now have over 16 types samosas all unique to our

Juwelz (just like Jules) started her
business 8 years ago not long after she
moved to Tobago. The beautiful patina of
the driftwood pieces at the beach made
her recycle the wood into unique wood
signs. Friends saw her work & advised her
to make the step & sell the signs… the
magic began. A year later she found
herself at markets in Trinidad & selling her
signs at Junckollage, a lovely shop for

V’Toria Rhonda Vineyard & Winery Ltd, was established in 2012 by Nekisha
Rhonda Charles with the goal of crafting award-winning, innovative,
high-quality wines from exotic tropical fruits infused with various grape
varietals.
It began as follows, “My Mother, Yvonne began making wine in 1962 with
her village neighbours as a hobby and continued doing so as early as I can
remember. At the age of 13, my mother had a jar of rice wine stored in her
cabinet and offered me a taste, I took a liking to it immediately and decided
to have a little more later that night when everyone was asleep.”

My name is Juliana Moses and I am a
momtrepreneur. As a young adult I was
intrigued by the ability to create my own
version of trending fashion. I offered
seamstress services as a side job but didn't
like it and eventually returned to sewing
only for myself. One time I had an
unpleasant experience with a very
misleading quality of bedding. This was a
game changer, I made my own bedding
and found that I loved the entire process.
