President<br />
A resident of Pasadena, Maryland, Toregas is a manager with Verizon, in<br />
Silver Spring, Maryland. A mo<strong>the</strong>r of four and grandmo<strong>the</strong>r of five, she<br />
enjoys symphonies, art shows, cooking, gardening, decorating for <strong>the</strong><br />
holidays, and spending time with her family.<br />

President-Elect<br />
A resident of Colesville, Maryland, Emmel is manager of technical support<br />
services for Lockheed Martin Space Operations, in Seabrook,<br />
Maryland. A volunteer firefighter with 30 years of experience, he chose<br />
to attend <strong>UMUC</strong> because, “<strong>UMUC</strong> provided <strong>the</strong> education I needed in<br />
an accommodating format and convenient schedule.”<br />

A resident of Columbia, Maryland, Bowen is director of administration<br />
for McKissack & McKissack, Inc., of Washington, D.C. He volunteers<br />
his time, he said, because “<strong>UMUC</strong> has done so much for me I probably<br />
can’t volunteer enough.”<br />

Vice President, Student Relations<br />
Originally from Elmira, New York, Westlein is senior proposal manager<br />
for <strong>the</strong> Washington, D.C., offices of ACS. A fitness buff, she says one of<br />
her favorite <strong>UMUC</strong> memories is of statistics professor David Chapman,<br />
who reassured students that <strong>the</strong>re was “No penalty for incorrect guesses.”<br />

A resident of Washington, D.C., Poussaint works in human resources<br />
for HMSHost, of Be<strong>the</strong>sda, Maryland. A fan of jazz and classical music,<br />
she gives of her time, she said, because, “as a preacher’s kid, I learned at<br />
a young age that . . . <strong>the</strong> act of giving is rewarding in itself.”<br />

Vice President, Outreach<br />
A resident of Bowie, Maryland, Young is budget officer for <strong>the</strong> Joint<br />
Task Force–Computer Network Operations, in Arlington, Virginia. He<br />
chose to attend <strong>UMUC</strong>, he said, because “<strong>UMUC</strong> was and is <strong>the</strong> college<br />
for working adults seeking lifelong education opportunities. Unlike<br />
many o<strong>the</strong>r institutions, <strong>UMUC</strong> offers <strong>the</strong> ‘personal’ touch. You’re not<br />
just ano<strong>the</strong>r paying statistic; you do matter.”<br />

Secretary/Treasurer<br />
A resident of Bowie, Maryland, Young is director of <strong>the</strong> Commerce<br />
Acquisition Systems Division of <strong>the</strong> U.S. Department of Commerce.<br />
She enjoys bicycle riding, golf, and reading, and chose <strong>UMUC</strong> because<br />
of its accessibility: “No matter where I am, <strong>UMUC</strong> is <strong>the</strong>re, too, [so] I<br />
can continue to be fresh academically and grow professionally,” she said.<br />

Vice President, Philanthropy and Alumni Annual Giving<br />
A resident of Great Falls, Virginia, Kent is director of human resources<br />
for Nice Systems, Inc., of Herndon, Virginia. Married and <strong>the</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>r of<br />
two, he says that his hobbies include coaching soccer and spending<br />
time with his family. “I came to <strong>UMUC</strong> to change my career path,” he<br />
said. “<strong>UMUC</strong> provided <strong>the</strong> opportunities to open that door.”<br />
JEFFREY S. BRODY ’93<br />
Vice President, Career and Professional Development<br />
A resident of Columbia, Maryland, Brody is executive director of<br />
human resources for Northrop Grumman Information Technology’s<br />
Defense Mission Systems business unit. He has served as an adjunct<br />
professor at George Mason University, University of Maryland, College<br />
Park, and <strong>UMUC</strong>. He volunteers his time, he said, out of a “desire to<br />
give back and ensure that I can help o<strong>the</strong>rs learn from my experiences—OK,<br />
my mistakes.”
