Getting Around<br />

Harbor Bridge. Once you are in <strong>Corpus</strong><br />
<strong>Christi</strong>, you may want to learn the local<br />
lingo to help you get around. Here’s a<br />
quick lesson:<br />
SPID - South Padre Isl<strong>and</strong> Drive is often<br />
referred to as S-P-I-D by the locals,<br />
however it is more commonly marked as<br />
Texas Highway 358. SPID will take a visitor<br />
from central <strong>Corpus</strong> <strong>Christi</strong> to Upper<br />
Padre Isl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> our Gulf <strong>Beach</strong>es.<br />
Intersecting with SPID is Texas Highway<br />
286, also called the Crosstown Expressway<br />
or simply “Crosstown” by the locals.<br />
The Crosstown Expressway will take a<br />
visitor from SPID to the Downtown/<strong>Bay</strong>front<br />
area or I-37.<br />
“The Isl<strong>and</strong>” as the locals call it, is the upper<br />
part of Padre Isl<strong>and</strong> which stretches<br />
for miles <strong>and</strong> miles along the southern<br />
