Final year exhibition organiser. As a senior student I was selected
to organize the final year exhibition for the University of Nicosia
in collaboration with the main curators in regard to organisation,
timing and creativity in execution.
Participated at the « Erasmus Demochange Cities EU Intensive
Program » – Italy. In collaboration with five other countries students
with diverse backgrounds were called to produce a design
solution on the issues in Muggia village. Through the project we
learned as a group how to evaluate local problems through public
engagement as well as communicate ideas and produce a design
solution for the benefit of the community.

1Residence (2015)-ccai
This peculiar project had unique attributes
due to the plots characteristic linear formation
and the clients’ requirement for a single level
residence.
The plan was divided in two main zones
separated by a semi-open space where the
family could gather and host various events.
To the North the common family areas such as
living room, kitchen and veranda were placed
and to the South all the private sleeping areas.
The open veranda was covered with deck
and roof holes allows for tree growth within
the space.
The private zone was offered a narrow private
garden with semi-transparency from the
street made of custom hollow tiles allowing
for ventilation and visual interest were the
common zone was covered by an inclined
roof. Even though the plot had its difficulties
an interesting composition was able to meet
the clients’ requirements with success.

Residence (2020)-ccai
3d-Studio Sophia
This contemporary 260 sq residence is located
in Nicosia. This house is designed to be a
relaxing getaway when the owners return
home from a long working day.
All the common family activities are layed
on the ground floor in a common manner
except from the kitchen which is semi private.
In order to achieve the indoor/outdoor feeling
a parallel deck is positioned right outside the
common areas. The first floor creates a shaded
area for the summer days and the overflow
pool complements the house. A pool house as
well as a photography room is added near the
covered parking.
On the first floor a lot of storage is spread
throughout the corridor. There are three
bedrooms, two bathrooms, an office , a small
veranda as well as the access area to the roof.

The interplay between indoors and outdoors
within the residence as well as the variable
of visibility and transparency are themes
investigated in this project. The house
is separated in two main volumes, the
private facing North and the communal
space where the living room, dining area
and kitchen are grouped together. An
intermediated individual volume acts as the
main entrance area dividing the public from
the private.
The communal spaces are mainly enclosed
with the use of glass panels, vertical
protection louvers facing the street and the
use of curtains. The large sliding opening
facing the exterior veranda allow for the
living room to expand to the exterior during
the summer season with ease. A small office/
play room is independently attached on
the house as a square with glass openings
in order to offer to the parents direct visual
monitoring on the kids as was requested.
The whole communal volume is covered by
steel structure with an under inclined ceiling
and in combination with the glass panel
system of sliding doors cross ventilation and
visual interest is formed.
The family bedrooms are composed
surrounding an exterior courtyard and the
master bedroom was assigned with its own
private veranda and garden.

The house is located in a highly populated
area of Nicosia where privacy protection
from the attached resident and the adjoining
houses was a critical element in the design.
Composed with a contemporary touch
a combination of white surfaces, plank
concrete finishes, steel fences and a bit of
wood was selected. As requested within the
premises photography office was introduced
in order for the owner to be able to accept
client meetings at home therefore a
controlled access point was formed creating
levels of accessibility.
The residence is programmatically composed
around a central double height open plan
living room where all the common family
activities are situated in a common living
and dining space. Large sliding glass doors
and various height openings on the exterior
wall allow for cross ventilation and natural
day light to penetrate the space. An exterior
double height semi covered area acts as
an extension of the interior living spaces and
shades the large windows from unwanted
reflections from the summer sun.
The central void of the communal spaces on
the ground floor extends to the upper floors
allowing visual connections between the
bedrooms and living spaces from the lower
level.

5 Residence (2019)-ccai
The main idea for this house was the creation
of a residence which would be able to turn
into a retreat from the everyday life closing off
the rest of the world outside. In order to enter
the residence one passes through the vertical
metallic wall and step into a small courtyard
with a tree. Then entering the residence you
find the common space which includes the
kitchen, dining area and living room. A play
room is added at the front of the house. The
adjacent porch and pool offers to the users
the ability to easily transition from inside to
outside expanding the space visually as well
as functionally.
The first floor is made of 2 kids bedrooms
with their share bathroom, a lot of storage
in the corridors, a master bedroom with a
private balcony and a master bathroom. The
courtyards tree expands to the 1st floor and the
users are able to enjoy the view of greenery
from the comfort of their own bed.

The site is situated in a suburban area of Nicosia which in the last few years is
under a rabid mass development. The orthogonal inclined plot determined
the main shape of the house and the multiple orthogonal volumes in a variety
of heights and materials form the living spaces.
The residence spans in three levels, the basement with its own private yard,
the ground level with all the common family activities and the top floor with
the private bedrooms. At the ground level a formal dining and living room
are positioned together within a double height space covering the one side
of the house where a secondary family living room, an office, and the kitchen
cover the rest of the floor plan. The vertical staircase shaft is the main transition
point among the levels. In order to allow for sun protection the whole staircase
unit is dressed with a metallic perforated envelope reinforcing the feeling
of privacy and safety from the neighborhood. All the bedrooms have their
own en-suit bathrooms and they have their own separate long orthogonal
volume.

The master bedrooms volume made of brick extend beyond the ground floor and offers
shade to the ground floor veranda. Natural day light penetration was essential for
this project therefore the roofs of the bedrooms are subtracted from the walls
and facing North narrow lines of skylights make the rooms feel airy with cross
ventilation and spatial interest.

7 Residence (2013)-ccai
The focus for this project was the creation of a 120 m² residence with affordable
modern design and high structural quality. Therefore a modern house was
created by the combination of elevated clear volumes with defined space
and activities. Its size is approximately 90m², with 30m² of covered verandas
and contains a living room, kitchen, dining space, as well as two bedrooms.
The residence is programmatically divided in common (West) and private
sections (East). The common space is composed in an open plan featuring
a large living area with wood burning fireplace, a dining area for 8 people
and a kitchen with built–in appliances. This space is characterized by its high
ceiling and the ample natural light purring in the space. The large movable
window system offers spaciousness, openness as well as easy connection
with the exterior veranda. The guest bathroom is tactfully positioned at the
transition space between common and private spaces in order to avoid
direct visibility from the public area. There are two bedrooms: a master
bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a large second bedroom.

Taking into consideration the climate of Cyprus, the patio is holding a central role in the composition allowing the natural light as well as ventilation to enter the
The house purposely incorporates three materials: wood, brick and glass. There are no
living spaces. The patio and a large covered veranda offer space for seating and dining during the summer time with possibility for fitted barbecue and a bar. The
embellishments to ensure that the focus is on the space rather than the materials. This
flexibility of the sliding window system connects visually as well as practically the exterior with the interior at any time the owner decides. Functioning as one, the
lowers the cost of construction but also creates a space where 120m² turn into a perfect
spatial boundary is expanded and the buildings character alters flexibly according to season and activity.

8 Residence (2015)-ccai
Located in one of the most fast growing residential area in Nicosia, the young couple
owned a plot of 558 sqm. As requested the house was based on an L shape format
spaning in three layers, an underground parking, a ground floor and the first floor.
The 291,5 sq L shape layout sits on the right side of the plot.
The residence derived from a composition of three volumes. A main
horizontal orthogonal volume is laid at the front of the plot hosting the
entrance, the living room and the formal dining area. A wooded grain

cement stamping volume is slightly lifted from the ground and is used by the couple as their private office with large opening towards the pool.
A vertical orthogonal volume with inclined edges is positioned at the top of the ground floor horizontal unit and it is mainly used in private by the family. At
the ground floor the common living room and the formal dining area are a joined where the office and the kitchen are positioned at the opposite directions
for more privacy. The staircase is located at the front of the house leads the users to the first floor where a master and two bedrooms are located. The master
bedroom contains a walk-in closet, and an en-suite combined shower/ jacuzzi room.
The natural lighting within this space is emitted through a large top to ceiling window
facing the front elevation of the house, where on the long side of the house an
orthogonal skylight covers a large amount of the corridor.

9 Residence (2018) -ccai
This narrow plot was assigned to the office in
a quest of creating a functional 155 sq. house
able to house a young family. In order to make
the residence more functional the ground floor
was designed as an open plan with the living
room, the dining area and kitchen made as
one unified space. For more privacy a deck
area was assigned at the back end of the
house with a barbeque place and a narrow
strip of garden adjacent to the neighbors plot.
The top level is mainly used as the families’
private zone where all the bedrooms are
facing North-East. The master bedroom has
its own en-suit bathroom, wardrobe and
a small balcony. In addition the laundry is
though best to be done at the top level of the
residence therefor extra storage is added at
the corridors allowing for washing machine to
be installed and with the addition of an extralarge
balcony at the back end of the house
the drying can be done naturally.
The whole residence has a narrow shape
clean white form but an element of interest
is added at the front of the house with a
diagonal cladding system.

10 Residence (2015)-ccai
The concept for this residence in the superb of Nicosia was based
on the request of the owners to translate their residential needs into
an L shape composition.
With this particular layout and the orthogonal shape plot an open
yard was formed from the negative space therefore the ground
floor common everyday spaces such as the living room, kitchen and
dining area are all facing the yard. Divided in two main volumes,
an L shape ground floor and an orthogonal top floor the house
follows minimal lines as well as colors.
On the top floor the family’s bed rooms and a small laundry room
are placed. The master bedroom is visually separated from the rest
of the shape with an alcove and faces directly towards the pool.
A roof garden covers the roof of the L shape volume offering extra
entertaining outdoor space.
The common ground floor spaces are laid on an open plan without
visual boundaries and large sliding windows allowing for easy
transition to the exterior barbeque area and pool. An office as well
as an extra bedroom is located at each end of the L shape offering
to the family the extra space needed for efficient residential use.

A new developing company
approached the team to
design a set of house within a
plot. Due to the specific plots
shape as well as part of our
ideology was not to create
identical houses rather than
two houses following the
same modern language.
The houses are 155 sq. each
suitable for middle class
families. The ground floor
areas comprises of the living
room, the kitchen and dining
room all in one space and a
large deck area for indooroutdoor
activities.
The first floor has all the
bedrooms and bathrooms
as well as a small veranda
to be used as pleased. The
houses composition was
smart in a way avoiding the
loss of any unused sq. but at
the same time offering the
most comfort in its size.

Building a semi detached residence is always
a challenge in the sense of privacy as well as
in a sense of creating a combination of two
similar but not identical houses. The main task
was the creation of a three bedroom house
and a four bedroom house.
It was important to have a double parking
area and a wardrobe at each master
bedroom. For both houses the ground floor
is similar with the living and dining located at
the back end of the house and the kitchen is
at the front with immediate access from the
parking.
The main entrance is at the side of the houses
avoiding to touch the residences eliminating
noise issues. The connection of the properties
is only visible at the storage rooms.

The owner of this plot approached the office
in order to design an apartment block which
would stand out from the rest in terms of shape
as well as in terms of apartment layouts.
Thirteen luxuries apartments were proposed.
Three main openings were formed in order
to have trees grow in parallel to the building.
Upon entering the block one enters to the
main courtyard. Spanning in three floors all
the units are a one bedroom apartment but
with multiple layout options.
The whole buildings has a minimal and large
window openings allowing for light and natural
ventilation to run through the spaces. Vertical
custom made division structures are made in
order to create visual interest as well as avoid
the direct view into the apartment.

Apartment Block
(2020)-ccai
The plot for this residential building was a tricky
one due to its curved plot at two sides as well
as the request to design 18 apartments in two
floors. In order to achieve these, the whole
building followed the plot's curves creating a
visual interest.
The apartments are positioned in rows with a
common corridor in the center. The corridor
is actually an open air bridge allowing for
multiple openings around the apartment walls.
Greenery spanse from the ground floor to
the top levels through multiple cut outs and
a common facade is used as an envelope
around the building with a playful character.

Apartment Block
(2019)-ccai
Located in Lakatamia, this apartment building
project is a combination of two apartment
typologies spanning in three floors. The two
typologies are three two room and three three
room apartments.
The main characteristic for this project is the
design choice to have the verandas facing
the side of the building due to the fact that
there is a green zone adjacent to the property
hence more privacy for the users. Also each
typology at either floor is separated by placing
the common used areas at the center of the
building.
The third floor apartments also own a roof
veranda. Another design element that makes
the whole building more interesting is the
wooden ceiling at each veranda warming up
the whole composition.

1 Renovation (2018)-ccai
Renovating an old house next to the beach
might be a challenge but at the same time an
exciting task. The owner after purchasing the
property in Larnaca contacted the office in
order to have a complete renovation exterior,
interior as well as the garden facing the beach
front. The aim for this project was to create
a contemporary volumetric composition by
keeping the existing main shape as well as
adding new elements and subtracting old
once to facilitate all the users’ needs and
wants. For the exterior of the building selected
areas where covered with brick tiles and all
the exterior openings were replaced with a
new aluminium slim series able to withstand the
climatic changes by the sea.
The interior space was completely transformed
by removing all the elements blocking the sea
view and a common space including the living
room, kitchen and dining area is united. The
office was in charge in designing all the fixed
furniture such as the kitchen, the kitchen island,
the tv/ fireplace unit as well as the staircase.
The lighting was custom made to the project as
well as all the bathrooms where renovated. The
rest of the soft furniture’s were selected by the
design team. The first floor was also completely
renovated and the master bedroom was
positioned at the most premium location facing
the sea with an added balcony form maximum
experience. Within the master bedroom an
open walking closet was designed with custom
made furniture dividing the sleeping from the
clothing areas able to include a tv as well as
some additional storage.

Apartemnt
Renovation &
Interior Design
(2014)-ccai
Renovations are a common act in
our days and this project was one
of them. The former double high
residence in the core of old Srovolos
was in desperate need for remodeling
and transformation into an up to date
21st century residence. The passage
of time left it marks on this building and
static reinforcement as well as thermal
insulation was essential. The project was
divided in two levels, the ground floor
and the first floor. At the ground floor
an office and a small one bedroom
residence were made, and the preexisting
family shop was maintained.
The first floor got transformed into a
three bedroom apartment with an
open plan living room, dining and
kitchen space.
In order to create visual interest at the
exterior side of the building multiple
volumes were pushed out of the
existing building boundaries as well as
elevated. Some surfaces were painted
grey and the entrance volume was
covered with oxidized metal sheets
marking the point of entry. The new
entrance door was designed and
the main staircase was given a new
handrail design. The yellow handrail
directs the users from the ground
floor to the first floor were the main
residence is located.

Upon entering one faces a wooden box. The box
hosts the guest bathroom as well as small kitchen
storage and is partially dividing the kitchen from the
living - dining room. For the creation of this unit poplar
wood stripes in combination with a wallpaper were
used creating this playful composition with hidden
entrances.
The living room is placed next to the covered
veranda allowing for space expansion. For this area
a structure was made including a fitted fireplace, a
TV, multiple storage units, fitted speakers and hidden
lighting. Multiple furniture owned by the family such
as the arm chairs, the dining table and the buffet
were made new and reused.

The position of the kitchen allow for some privacy from the rest of the open space. The kitchens low cupboards were covered with poplar wood and some color was
added at the open wall units. All the appliances were fitted.
The private rooms for the family are located at the second half of the house, an en-suit master bedroom, two kid’s bedrooms and a bathroom. All the bedrooms follow a
minimal character with white walls and a common wooden floor. Both bathrooms have youthful character, the master bathroom in dark tones made in tiles and gravel
and the kid’s bathroom with bright mosaic tiles n yellow white and black. The washbasin furniture’s were designed following the same color pallets.
Within the whole spaced the ceilings as well as the walls were made out of gypsum boards allowing for multiple lighting details. All the wooden furniture such as wardrobes,
kitchen, storage units etc. was specially designed for this project. The whole apartment followed a common design language and the whole space turned into a youthful
up to date structure for a new cycle of life.

Rimani Bella Hair Salon
(2014)-ccai
Rimani Bella hair salone was a 40sqm renovation
of an existing establishment where the design
team was challenged to create a new character
for the brand with main intentions the attraction
of new clients and the shops promotion. The
space was divided in two zones, the main
hair styling zone at the front of the store and the
coloring station at the back.
Upon entering the salon one sees the inclined
oak wooden ceiling. This custom made steel
structure host the directional lighting tubes as
well as the hanging mirrors. The right and left side
of the inclined ceiling were closed with black
perforated steel sheets. In parallel line with the
ceiling structure small gabs were made in order
for hidden lighting strips to illuminate the space
in multiple colors.
The reception was made out of the remaining
ceiling pieces, in combination with white
lacquered MDF wood as well as grey mirrors.
Walking farther into the salon a thin orthogonal
mirror frames the entrance to the secondary
area where the hair preparation for styling is
happening. A colorful cosmetic show case
furniture marks the transition area were another
show case made of steel sheets is hiding within
the depth of the room. A small color preparation
counter is placed behind the hair washing station
assisting the stylist in their client’s preparation.
The floor was maintained simple in light grey
concrete floor and a colored picture was
selected and printed as the main wall paper
for the preparation room. As the times pass the
whole space is transformed from day to night
with multiple lights maintaining the visual interest
for the users as well as the passers.

Hair Salone
(2018)-ccai
Teho is a trendy hair styling
brand owned by a young hair
professional ready to rebrand
and relocate his shop at a
larger space. The whole project
was divided in four rooms, the
reception, the waiting and styling
space, the coloring room and
the hair washing room. Due to
the double high ceilings the main
idea was to create aesthetically
pleasing spaces which vary in
high, texture and light intensity.
Upon entering the space the
reception is placed on the right
hand side and the ceiling is
inclined. Large openings allow for
plenty of light to enter the space
throughout the day. On the
ceiling multiple lights have been
hanged and a product display
has been custom made able to
combine storage, display as well
as multiple nooks for plants.
The metallic rods used for the
making of the shelves are also
used in the main area as a
ceiling creating an interesting
movement. From the ceiling a
led cable spanning through the
space along with multiple vertical
light fixtures complete the whole
composition.

Entering from the reception to the stylin
and a hidden led strip is added at the
the back end of the shop along with th
assigned to the office. The idea was to

g room the waiting area is assigned to the left and the six stations are located at the center of the room. The stations are custom made out of steel and MDF. A large mirror
mirrors base. Between the stations a large tree is planted and the floor is marked by the use custom made terrazzo tiles and concrete finish. The coloring room is located at
e washing room. The main interest in the wash area is the custom made neon light sign on the white tile wall which gives a fun look in the atmosphere. The exterior sign was
use thin steel and shape the word TEHO in a very minimal way.

3 Kids Bedrooms (2015)-ccai
A young couple of two adorable kids a boy and a girl
approach the design team in order to decorate their
bedrooms with unique ideas matching their kid’s
personality as well as age. For the girl’s room neutral cool
tones were used as the base and pops of color were
introduced through accessories. The inclined roof
reinforced the idea of a mint color rays ‘bursting’ across
the walls and roof giving the illusion of a larger room. A
custom made bed was produced for this project with
extra storage space at its base
and all the bed sheets and

This two-bedroom apartment was in a very
poor condition and in order to raise the value
of the specific asset, some major alterations
took place. The parquet floor was removed
and replaced with a darker grey base tone.
The kitchen counter and cupboards were
removed and the whole kitchen layout was
changed. In the area where the kitchen
was before a new wooden installation was
designed able to ‘hide’ the oven, the washing
and drying machine as well as the fridges.
This furniture is a very important part of the
renovation due to its storage capacity.
A high-end Poggenpohl stainless steel island
was provided by C. Askotis & Sons Ltd and
its the true jewel of the apartment. Like the
wooden installation, the island is functional
on both long sides and its an elegant feature
within the apartment.
Even though this is an open plan design,
the new ceiling above the kitchen is zoning
experientially the kitchen from the living
room. The new lighting design and fixtures
have the ability to set the mood according
to the user’s needs. New roller and electronic
vertical blinds added a luxurius tone.

Fireplace and
rotating TV unit design
(2020)-Studio Sophia
For this project the living room and the dinning
area were separated by the creation of a
combined structure hosting the fireplace
as well as the tv/storage. The challenging
part of the design was the construction of a
rotating tv unit making possible the tv to be
viewed while using each area at a time. The
TV structure's body is constructed with mdf
and it’s covered with colored steel sheets.
In the structure there is a rotating pole used
to rotate it as well as containing wiring for all
the areas needed such as the woofer space
at the base, the sound bar at the top and
multiple other plugs for tv receivers etc. the
back side of the furniture facing the dining
area, there is a slit for positioning various
decorative items, the access to the wiring
inside the structure as well as the possibility to
hang a painting for visual interest whenever
the unit is rotated.
The fireplace is constructed as a separated
unit. It has a double sided fireplace installed
and it's covered with green marble. At
the side of the structure there is a vertical
lighting strip as well as at the top shelf under
the vertical glass for lighting interest.

Walk-In Closet

The task in hand was the design of a
functional walk-in closet able to cover the
owners’ needs and wants. The new wardrobe
followed the pre-existing arc shape of the
floor, avoiding any spatial loss, and the
addition of a new large counter with a lot of
storage at the center of the room. The third
designed element of the space is the custom
made makeup vanity with lighting access at
the back of the furniture.
The pre-existing warm-colored wooden
parquet floor was maintained, and the whole
design followed a minimal elegant line with
the use of white as a base, gold, and stone/
marble details on the handles. By installing
the new lighting, the project came to life!

Even though this apartment was relatively new in age the interior décor, color and material
choices were very outdated. The pallet for this project was fresh, bright and youthful in order
to reflect the owner’s age and aura. The previews brown heavy kitchen counters were colored
white, a new comfortable custom made corner sofa was made and new fixed furniture were
designed in order to add more storage space. For the kitchen a new counter was designed fixed
on the wall allowing for storage at one end and stool sittings for dinning. A new fun shelve system
was fixed on the wall above the kitchen counter as well as a new TV storage unit under the TV.

Minimal Custom
Made Tv Unit
(2019)-Studio Sophia
For this project, the client’s main concern
was the redesign of one of the essential
spatial furniture in every house, the tv unit.
The main request was to design a furniture
that could host the tv as well as double as a
storage unit. Having these two parameters in
mind, I created a structure where the storage
cupboards are shaping the base with hidden
handles, and its all colored grey. The top
carved part of the unit hosts the recessed
tv. The unit’s height kept at the height of the
window creates a spatial visual balance. The
vertical wooden elements at the back of
the wall hide the 5 cm structural protrusion
of the beam. At the furniture top surface, a
LED string is spanning from the top to the right
side, vertically creating a light ambiance
within the living room. The left side is used as
a shelving area where multiple items can be
placed as a display. Creating this small project
is an enjoyable task, and I can’t wait for more
projects like this. Keep following the blog, and

This relatively new apartment was in
need for some remodeling of the whole
common area in order to make it more
functional and up-to-date. The main
client’s quest was the connection of
the existing kitchen area to the rest of
the living and dining space. The former
kitchen was enclosed at a small room
completely isolating the user therefore
the plan of action was the complete
demolition of the existing kitchen walls.
A new kitchen was designed in
collaboration with the M.O.B. House
and delivered from Italy. The sitting
area, an electric stove, and a washing
basin are all now placed on an ‘L’ shape
island surrounding the column forming
the main visual division between the
living room and the kitchen. A large
free standing furniture hosting the
fridge, the over and multiple storage
space is positioned next to the existing
wall and a corridor is formed for easy
access and circular movement within
the space. New tiles where placed at
the kitchen zone marking the position
of the old kitchen and the rest of the
space is covered with new parquet.
A new false ceiling covers the new
kitchen and hidden lights were also
added. Two walls were painted in a
grey color, a new dining table, chairs,
the center living room table, two
side tables, and a carpe where new
selections, were the two existing sofas
were covered with a new fabric and
new pillows were made.

The clients request to demolish all the walls within the common area let to the decision to
create furniture which would include the TV as well as all the electronic equipment supporting
the TV. The request of the TV to be able to be watch from everywhere within the space was
challenging. An orthogonal furniture was proposed which had the ability to rotate the TV
screen in 180 degrees while at the same time having a stable storage base where all the
cables were hidden within.

Project title: Soni Chair And Stool Family
Toying with the concept of the competition in
regard to sustainability, materiality and easy
assembly the designers Sophia Neocleous
and Nicole Florentzou made a step back to
childhood were wooden stacking toys was their
first contact with design. The SoNi family consists
of four elements made of ash wood. In order to
make the assembly simpler, two sets of legs are
formed expanding from the base to the back rest.
The identical pieces are crossed and connected
with a half lap joint in the middle, creating the
chair’s or stool’s core. Adding a wooden dowel
is a part that will give that connection more
stability. Wooden dowels are also used for the
seat to fasten on to the base structure. Finally,
the backrest slides through the vertical cut outs
at the top of the structure. Therefore, the use
of alternative elements such as metal ware
was successfully eliminated from the project.
The assembly of the SoNi family brings to mind
the simplicity of our childhood wooden puzzle
toys and emphasizes the clarity of the chair’s
concept. To add an extra touch of playfulness
the seat and backrest pieces are painted with
eco-friendly paints in a pastel version of the
primary colours and white. The main aim of the
SoNi family is to activate the user’s childhood
memories and make the assembly process in
adulthood an enjoyable task.

Medical School
and Health Science
Building for the
Univeristy of Cyprus.

Located at the campus of the University
of Cyprus the competition was focused
on the design of the Medical School and
Health Science Building.
The first part of the proposal was the
orthogonal underground composition
where all the research laboratories are
located in a controlled environment with
a common internal courtyard. This part
of the building has a direct connection
with the future Biology Building which is
estimated to be completed within few
years along the competition plot.
The roof of the laboratories was
transformed into a plaza inviting the
students from the specific profession as
well as from the rest of the campus to
meet and greed at this level addressing
the topic of connection with the campus
pedestrian walkway (belvedere).

Staring from the new square designed by
Zaha Hadid few meters farther the walker is
directed to pass through a new landmark.
The commercial units where place at the
two opposite sides and were covered with
planted inclined roofs where at the center
a large open plaza was formed. The
inclined roofs host a park as well as sitting
space for events.

The concept behind the proposal takes the form of a
dynamic architectural intervention with an urban planning
strategy of connecting the urban axis from the historical
central of Nicosia (Eleftheria square) to the presidential
palace (new City centre) and in an extent the old city to
the new.

Three levels of underground parking are placed
beneath the ground hiding them from the users
view. The aim is to enable a unique multicultural
social network of infrastructural, spatial
and programmatic elements to co-exist within
a new dynamic hybrid space, unifying old and
new, providing for a missing social “Landmark” in

Eptagonia Heritage
Museum. Cyprus.

ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN
The site of the competition was located at
the community of Eptagonia in Cyprus and
the topic was the creation of a heritage
museum, the formation of a new square, as
well as the renovation of the existing cultural
center neighboring the villages’ church.
The peculiarity of the site was the large
height difference among the plot where
the new building would be placed and the
position of the existing cultural center at the
top of the hill. There was a need for a smooth
connection among the two interventions
and the smart use of negative space in
between them.
The aim of the proposal was the creation of
a path which would direct the visitor from
the new heritage museum to the renovated
cultural center up the hill. At the center
of the composition a square for multiple
cultural events was proposed with a smooth
inclination becoming a pole of interest for
the locals as well as the visitors.

There was a special interest into the materiality of the buildings
and its harmonic blend to the site therefore oxidized zing panels
were selected as the main exterior material and wood. Views
was another interest factor for the team and the ability to see
as well as experience the buildings and the site from multiple
height, and viewpoints was offered to the user.
