4Eptagonia HeritageMuseum. Cyprus.-GREGORIS PATSALOSAVVISARCHITECTURE + DESIGNThe site of the competition was located atthe community of Eptagonia in Cyprus andthe topic was the creation of a heritagemuseum, the formation of a new square, aswell as the renovation of the existing culturalcenter neighboring the villages’ church.The peculiarity of the site was the largeheight difference among the plot wherethe new building would be placed and theposition of the existing cultural center at thetop of the hill. There was a need for a smoothconnection among the two interventionsand the smart use of negative space inbetween them.The aim of the proposal was the creation ofa path which would direct the visitor fromthe new heritage museum to the renovatedcultural center up the hill. At the centerof the composition a square for multiplecultural events was proposed with a smoothinclination becoming a pole of interest forthe locals as well as the visitors.
There was a special interest into the materiality of the buildingsand its harmonic blend to the site therefore oxidized zing panelswere selected as the main exterior material and wood. Viewswas another interest factor for the team and the ability to seeas well as experience the buildings and the site from multipleheight, and viewpoints was offered to the user.competitions
