Mr Nicholson: Next week if possible (week beginning 24 th January) but it does depend on restrictions in terms of other schools. We could do it also online, something with other Dulwich Schools, and then have like every school in every district have a different event to do and have a celebration. by Jasper Y. T.I.P. is where the Dudes interview teachers about an important topic, a burning question or anything else they’d like to talk about. In our first edition, Jasper interviews Mr Nicholson about the upcoming Winter Olympics. Note: This interview happened before we went online so events have been postponed or changed. Jasper: Hi Mr Nicholson. Do you think we can celebrate the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics at school, and how? Mr Nicholson: Thank you for having me. There are a few diverse ways we can do it. One thing which we are trying to look at is looking at what sports we can do within school. So, for example we have an indoor curling set, so that is one way we can do it. We could try and practice and teach you guys about some of the sports. Hopefully, we can get other Dulwich Schools involved, but at the moment we're focusing on what we can do within Beijing and what we can do within our own school, our own houses and year groups. Jasper: So, one more question: if this event was really going to happen, would we invite Senior School students and Early Years, or would it just be a Junior School event? Mr Nicholson: At the moment we're thinking just Junior School because all the schools have their own timetables and timings, so our focus is on you guys and making sure that Junior School have their own unique thing. Jasper: Thank you for your time. Jasper: Thank you for telling me about the curling. Can we do it privately or can we have a big competition with other classes and make it a big event or house event? Mr Nicholson: We can do some events with other classes and within Games. That's what we're looking at. We hope to trying to make it as rewarding and fun as possible. Jasper: Can we have like a M.A.D.D. for all of the people?
Our first podcast was quite nice, it was edited very well (by Mr Brunet) but our voices were too small. We learned from our mistakes and gave it a second try which was way better and soon after we were doing it all with more independence and confidence. by Ella Z. Heloïse D. Martin D. and Olivia L. We (EMOH) have already made 10 episodes of our podcast so far and we have learnt a lot from it. The origin of our podcast started when 5JB was preparing for our class assembly. We decided to write a magazine to go along with it, too. After we published our magazine, we thought because we started a magazine, so why not do a podcast? And that is why we created 10 episodes of our podcast so far. When we first started the podcast, we brainstormed about some ideas that could help us during our podcast journey so we could have a clearer idea about what we should do when we are recording and how to stay calm. Do you want to know how we record our podcast? Well, here is our full podcast routine~ In the morning when we get to our class, we bring our computers, check in with the teacher to make sure that she/he knows we are here, then we go directly to Mr Brunet's office. When we arrive there, we head to the SE21 recording room (in the Senior School basement). Then our wonderful journey begins! Firstly, we make sure that the microphone that we are recording is directly facing us so that it can pick up our voices (talking) clearly. Then, we can start to record! When we record, we make sure that we are speaking clearly and we try to avoid background music such as fidgeting, laughing, and other people in the background speaking. After we record, Mr Brunet will edit the recording we made on Wednesday or Thursday. It is then ready to be published on Friday. We have all had a fun journey making our podcast so far. Sometimes we face challenges like people coming late or missing when we are about to record. But rather than complaining or waiting, we just get it started without the person and get one of the other members to say their lines for them. Also, we sometimes have problems with recording too, like the background noise, people saying their lines too quietly, but either way, we try our best for these to not happen. After all, we are still learning and making mistakes during our journey of learning! This is only the beginning of our adventure, and we cannot wait to face more challenges and overcome them! We can’t wait for our new year of podcasting!
