(25%). In addition, the author is paid an advance.
This is an upfront payment that is decided by the
publisher, based on how many copies the book is
expected to sell, and through which the publishers
would recoup their money. It makes sense, then,

content and publishing process. The author does

death. The publisher must also be consulted on

related projects. Ultimately, the publisher has the
right to decide whether your book can be
published or not.
