HarshLighting Howtoshootamazingimagesinharshlighting WhenyoufirststartusingyourD<strong>SLR</strong>camera,youlearnthatdawnandduskare primelightingconditionsforphotography.Howeverthatdoesn’tmeanyou shouldputyourcameraawayinthemiddleoftheday.Doneright,youcan actualytakeamazinghighcontrastphotosinharshlight.
ExposureSetingsForHarshLight Thesecrettoshootinginharshlighting,istoshootmanualmodeand under-exposeyourshots.Doingthiswildarkentheshadows,leavingthe brighterareasbeterexposed.Nodoubtyou’vetakenanimageinthemiddle ofthedaywherethebackgroundandsuroundingslookgreat,yetpeople’s facesorwhiteclothingarewashedout.Whenunder-exposinganimage, expectshadowstobemuchdarkerandmoredramatic.Inmanycases,ifyou weretozeroyourexposureline,everythingwouldbebrighter,andoveralit wouldlookwashedoutandmundane.However,theadvantageofD<strong>SLR</strong> camerasisthattheyalowyoutobemorecreativewithyourimagery.
