The International <strong>Burma</strong><br />

Conference, under the<br />

patronage of Prof Dr Rita<br />

Sussmuth, President of<br />

the German Bunndestag<br />

(Parliament) and Mr<br />

Wolfgang Thierse, Vice-<br />

Chairman of Social<br />

Democratic Party of<br />

Germany, was held in the<br />

Building of German<br />

Parliament from 16-18<br />

<strong>April</strong> 1993.<br />

At the invitation of<br />

<strong>Burma</strong> Project-Berlin to<br />

participate the Conference,<br />

the Central<br />

Committee of the<br />

ABSDF sent Mi Sue<br />

Pwint, Member of the<br />

Information Department<br />

and Editor of Dawn-<br />

Oh-Wei magazine, as a<br />

female representative of<br />

the Front. She joined<br />

representatives of other<br />

democratic forces including<br />

Dr M Marta; Foreign<br />

Secretary Of Karen<br />

National Union (KNU),<br />

U Win Khet; Vicechairman<br />

of the National<br />

League for Democracy,<br />

Liberated Area (NLD,<br />

LA), Nai Pe Thein Zar,<br />

Foreign Secretary of the<br />

National Democratic<br />

Front (NDF), Ven Khae<br />

Mar Sara; Chairman of<br />

All <strong>Burma</strong> Young<br />

Monks Union (ABY<br />

MU), Khai Saw Htun;<br />

Arakan Liberation Front<br />

(ALP), Ms Seng Raw;<br />

Kachin Independence<br />

Organisation (KIO) and<br />

representatives of the<br />

Burmese Community in<br />

the United States of<br />

America, United Kingdom<br />

and Czechoslovakia.<br />

It was reportedly<br />

known that more than 80<br />

representatives from<br />

different countries<br />

participated the Conference.<br />

On <strong>April</strong> 16, at 9:30 am.,<br />

U Maung Yin, Chairman<br />

of <strong>Burma</strong> Project-Berlin,<br />

opened then ceremony<br />

by conveying greetings<br />

and Ven Khae Mar Sara<br />

prayed for the success of<br />

the conference.<br />

Then Ms Larissa Gabriel<br />

from Geneva-based<br />

Center on Human Rights<br />

read out the reports on<br />

Human Rights, British<br />

journalist Martin Smith<br />

discussed about "Human<br />

Rights and Democracy<br />

in <strong>Burma</strong> and Democracy<br />

in <strong>Burma</strong> and<br />

German MP Dr Mahlo<br />

explained his views on<br />

"Approach to Peace in<br />

<strong>Burma</strong>"<br />

"The Way to Peace" was<br />

presented by Dr Marta,<br />

MS Seng Raw and<br />

Kyemon U Thaung from<br />

different angles, "The<br />

Way To Peace in <strong>Burma</strong>"<br />

by Khernsai Jaiyem;<br />
