LOCAL NOTICEBOARDThe New Forest QuiltGroup are now enjoyingmonthly meetings once more.We meet on the 1 st Monday ofeach month, 7.00-9.00pm (or the2 nd if the 1 st is a Bank Holiday) atThe New Milton CommunityCentre, Osborne Rd, BH25 6EA.If you have an interest in patchwork and quiltingthen please pop along to meet us, we would loveto see you. All abilities are welcome. Memberscome from all areas of the Forest includingRingwood, Bournemouth and Lymington. We arenow able to offer our full programme of events.At meetings we have a library loan scheme, salestable, raffle, sometimes a local trader andspeakers or a social sewing opportunity to displayprojects. And don’t forget to bring along if youwould like to, your completed item that you havesewn for our ‘Show and Tell’.We regularly raise money for local charities andare involved in making quilts for children andbabies in our local hospitals and for young peopleleaving the care system. During the last two yearswe have made over 500 reusable bags for ourlocal foodbank.We are a membership organisation, but we dohave some spaces this year.Our next meeting is on March 7 th which is ourAGM. On April 4th we look forward to welcomingJennie Rayment (from Just Hands-On TV) to give atalk entitled ‘Nipper and Tucker’ followed onTuesday 5 th April by an all-day workshop ‘FizzBang Wallop’. All talks and workshops are open tovisitors at a cost £5 and £30 respectively. Ourmotto is ‘Learn, laugh and live!’One very popular activity is Mahjong - wecurrently have four active groups. This is agame using 144 tiles that is played likeRummy. It was Joseph P. Babcock, of theStandard Oil Company, Suzhou, who collectedand interpreted the variations of the gamefrom China. He arranged for Arabic numeralsto be engraved on the tiles when, in 1920, heimported sets of tiles to the USA.
