With the local Nordic and alpineski seasons closing or closed and the backcountry still in avalancheseason, we encourage everybody to stay safe if they’retrying to eke out the last days of their winter activities. At thistime of year, we also have prolonged transitional weather inour lakeside communities which means that we get icy roadconditions on many mornings. It’s hard to keep in the winterdriving mindset when we’re seeing sunny, double-digit temperatureafternoons, but please be cautious on your morningdrives. We don’t want to see you at an MVI.While late March was thankfully quiet, early March wasvery busy for callouts in Anglemont. First they were called to achimney fire which resulted in the house being filled with carbonmonoxide. The occupant was overcome by this invisiblegas and had to be rescued by firefighters, and thankfully is nowED’S RENOVATIONSNO JOB TOO SMALL OR TOO LARGEFinishing ● Bathrooms ● Kitchens ● AdditionsSun Decks ● Full Exterior Cladding250-319-9100edsrenos@hotmail.comrecovering well. Congratulations to Anglemontfor this live-saving rescue. Theywould like to thank the first responderswho arrived before the fire department, for using their trainingto recognize the danger and not enter the building as they toowould have been overcome by this dangerous gas.The following week also brought a structure fire that unfortunatelydestroyed the whole building but thankfully noone was injured. Mutual aid was required for this fire and bothCelista and Scotch Creek/Lee Creek fire departments joinedAnglemont to fight this fire. Thank you to all the firefighterswho responded to these calls.With spring regional training well underway, your threefire departments have been sending members to weekendcourses. To date our members have attended courses on chainsawsafety, taking the role of Incident Safety Officer on anemergency scene, Critical Incident Stress Management foryourself and team members around you, training other membersin their new skills and in skills maintenance, leadingteams of firefighters on an incident and helping officers in thefirehall, OFA Level 1 first aid, operating vehicles with airbrakes,and instructing students at live fire courses and maintainingthe live fire environment safely and effectively.In addition, the amazing members of the CRSD’s StructuralProtection Unit (SPU) started their preparation for theupcoming wildfire season. April will start off with the exteriorlive fire course at the regional training centre in SalmonArm and the provincial-level SPU training before Easter,followed by forcible entry and Rapid Intervention Teamtraining, senior-level SPU training, and emergency vehicledriving.April will also see the Anglemont Fire Department startits Saturday four-hour extra practices which are held once permonth, and we’re all looking forward to being able to traintogether later this spring at the Area F fire training centre currentlyunder construction at the Celista fire hall.All three fire departments could use more members tohelp us to protect our communities. We practice on Tuesdayevenings from 7:00 to 9:00, with additional training opportunitiesfor all who are interested.
