Style Magazine - May 2022

Starting the month off with a mighty bang is Cinco de Mayo that commemorates the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over the French Empire (and is NOT their Independence Day which is celebrated September 16). We love a good party and never pass up the chance to have one. So, with that as inspiration, we bring you this month’s “30+ Local Latin American Restaurants To Try!” feature (page 85) that’s full of intoxicating eats that will guarantee a fiesta (definitely followed by a siesta!). While researching this article, we came across many other South American restaurants that warranted mention, thus expanding the feature to include Salvadoran, Brazilian, and other cuisines that will knock your socks off. Another holiday we can’t wait to celebrate this month is Mother’s Day (May 8). We all have our own ways of showing affection and appreciation towards our moms (or mother figures) on Mother’s Day, but as a magazine, we’ve come to love our “Get to Know” article each May that profiles some of the most magnificent mothers to grace our neighborhoods. Not a single one of them fails to inspire and warm our hearts, and this year’s “Mighty Moms” piece (page 16) is no less. If it weren’t already apparent, we’ve got so much good content on the following pages. So, grab a margarita (or any of the coffees in our “Hot List” department on page 102—if that’s more your thing), grab the family (including mom!), and make the most of May. Cheers and happy everything! —Tara Mendanha tara@stylemg.com

Denise Bogard, M.D., FAARFM,<br />

ABAARM<br />

Bogard Health - Well Aging Med<br />

508 Gibson Dr., Ste 290 // Roseville<br />

916-781-4300 // bogardhealth.com<br />

Dr. Bogard has a long history in the health<br />

field. From an RN to a nurse anesthetist<br />

to an anesthesiologist, she spent almost<br />

40 years in the operating room. She was<br />

exposed to critical care, trauma, obstetrics, lots of on<br />

call hours and sleepless nights. As she entered her<br />

50's she found her own health starting to decline<br />

and sought out a healthy aging physician. After<br />

experiencing the benefits she sought out the fellowship<br />

of regenerative and healthy aging through the<br />

American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.<br />

She opened an office in 2014 and continues to grow<br />

and expand her knowledge into this evolving field of<br />

medicine. Rather than prescribing medications and<br />

bandaging diseases she looks for the "root causes"<br />

and integrates each system in the body together. She<br />

also looks at environmental, genetic and lifestyle<br />

factors which result in "dis-ease". Her continued and<br />

expanding practice utilizes bioidentical hormone<br />

replacement, thyroid and adrenal optimization, GI<br />

healing, peptide therapy, ozone therapy, PRP hair<br />

therapy, as well as body contouring and weight<br />

management.<br />

Claudia Cummings<br />

Cummings Properties<br />

1625 Creekside Dr., #201 // Folsom<br />

916-984-7025 // wcc@cummingsprops.com<br />

Claudia Cummings has been a Community and Civic leader in Folsom<br />

for several decades. She and her late husband William have donated<br />

large sections of ground for to the city of Folsom including the bike<br />

trail on Creekside Drive, The Cummings Family Park and Skate<br />

Park and a portion of the land that Mercy Hospital of Folsom rests on today.<br />

Claudia and William also aided in the building of Mercy Hospital of Folsom<br />

Emergency Pavilion.<br />

Claudia was asked to sit on the board of the Folsom Economic Development<br />

Corporation, “Choose Folsom” and the Folsom Police Foundation. Her<br />

involvement with her partnership “Rancho Murieta Market Plaza” recently<br />

opened a Bel Air grocery store along with a bank, Starbucks, Taco Bell and<br />

other tenants. The underutilized shores of Lake Natoma and the American<br />

River have caught her attention also. She is now the chairwoman of the River<br />

District Organizing Committee. Her thoughts are “the Riverfront areas of<br />

Folsom are great assets that are not meeting the needs of the residents or visitors<br />

of Folsom”. The mission of her committee is to designate the land area adjacent<br />

to the American River and Lake Natoma as a special district and to support<br />

enhancement for current and future residents.<br />

Claudia’s philanthropic endeavors include the Folsom Historical Society, The<br />

Chan House, The Murer House, The Nevada Art Museum, The SF MOMA,<br />

The Crocker Art Gallery, Folsom Lake Symphony and Folsom Lake Civic<br />

Ballet. In her spare time Claudia owns part of CBT Deer Creek Vineyard, a<br />

landowner in Metro Air Park, and an active board member of the University<br />

Development Fund whose purpose is to land a four year private university to this<br />

area. She is truly a bundle of energy that the Eveready Bunny will never catch.<br />
