Style Magazine - May 2022

Starting the month off with a mighty bang is Cinco de Mayo that commemorates the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over the French Empire (and is NOT their Independence Day which is celebrated September 16). We love a good party and never pass up the chance to have one. So, with that as inspiration, we bring you this month’s “30+ Local Latin American Restaurants To Try!” feature (page 85) that’s full of intoxicating eats that will guarantee a fiesta (definitely followed by a siesta!). While researching this article, we came across many other South American restaurants that warranted mention, thus expanding the feature to include Salvadoran, Brazilian, and other cuisines that will knock your socks off. Another holiday we can’t wait to celebrate this month is Mother’s Day (May 8). We all have our own ways of showing affection and appreciation towards our moms (or mother figures) on Mother’s Day, but as a magazine, we’ve come to love our “Get to Know” article each May that profiles some of the most magnificent mothers to grace our neighborhoods. Not a single one of them fails to inspire and warm our hearts, and this year’s “Mighty Moms” piece (page 16) is no less. If it weren’t already apparent, we’ve got so much good content on the following pages. So, grab a margarita (or any of the coffees in our “Hot List” department on page 102—if that’s more your thing), grab the family (including mom!), and make the most of May. Cheers and happy everything! —Tara Mendanha tara@stylemg.com

CARRYING ON A TRADITION
Carolyn & Skeeter
“I look forward to seeing the bride's face as she sees her
wedding bouquet for the first time. It’s her day!”
Wild Flowers Design Group is a three generation family
business founded in 1986. The original driving force,
Brie’s mother, Carolyn, had the passion for design and
talent in flower arranging. By her side, every day was
Oleta, aka Skeeter the motivating factor and her mother.
The strength of the business was the bond of love and friendship
between mother and daughter that provided the foundation.
Brie had always worked with Carolyn and Skeeter between school
and jobs growing up. An opportunity came to work full-time and
along with her passion, she developed an ambitious marketing
strategy.
As the trio worked successfully and tirelessly for years—the business
rapidly grew.
In 2015, Brie purchased the business from Carolyn. The trio
continued to work together until Skeeter passed away. Before her
passing she told Brie, “I know you want what your mother and I
have, and I want you to know that you’re getting there.”
Today, Wild Flowers Design Group is strong and continues to grow
with a design studio, a myriad of designers, independent contractors,
family helpers, and beloved Carolyn.
Brie’s need to make her clients happy and her work ethics has grown
the business to 300-400 events a year. She has a natural skill in
being able to interpret what the client’s vision is, therefore providing
the right ambiance for the event of a lifetime. Every detail is
scrutinized and prepared, along with back-up plans, leaving no room
for error because you only get one shot to strive for perfection.
“I’m proud that I can be a part of creating a happy memory.
It’s my reward and honor.”
