Eva Siroka: Seeing Still Life
Eva Siroka’s exhibit at the Carrier Art Gallery moves to the
Lower Gallery where it will be on display into the New Year.
According to her biography: As an artist, Eva Jana Siroka
remains deeply attached to her training as a historian of
Renaissance and Baroque art. Yet her fascination for Picasso’s
and Matisse’s paintings remains as firm as 35 years ago when she
first admired them. Her current exhibition focuses on the
numerous ways a still life can be seen by an artist, especially
through the elements of design, colour, and light. The manner
in which each piece is framed provides an additional reflection,
with two identical scenes evoking diverging sentiments.
The majority of the paintings exhibited depict objects Siroka has
collected over the years, especially glass, crystal, china, porcelain and
maiolica. She is intimately linked to them, not only as a collector,
but also as a historian and artist. Flowers, as countless sources of
inspiration and design, are also an inherent part of the artist’s life, and
further enrich this genre.
Siroka is also an accomplished author, among her notable
works is the book Maddalena.
Eva Siroka: Seeing Still Life runs to January 12, 2009 in the
Carrier Art Gallery.
The exhibit was originally on display in September,
however, due to popular demand, the artists have decided to
bring the show back once more.
