Mansfield Town under-18s’ defender
Taylor Anderson had his season
cut short due to a knee injury, but
reflects positively on the youth
team’s performances this season…
My season was cut short by
about three months when I
sustained my injury, but the team
has done really well as a whole.
They have had a couple of losses,
but I think since that big loss against
Bradford, they have done really well.
They participated in the tournament
at Brooke House College and lost
out in the final but still did Mansfield
proud.
Personally, I thought I started the
season very well. I scored a goal
against Burton Albion, and we won
the fixture. We then went through
a rough patch midway through the
season. I thought that I dropped my
standards a little bit, but I raised
them once again and started playing
well until I sustained my injury.
Physically, I feel a lot stronger now
as I have been working in the gym
quite a lot and had a lot of time to
work on my fitness and my physique.
Mentally, I have dealt with the injury
very well as the club has been there
to support me. Neil Bainbridge [head
of academy operations] has helped
me alongside all the physios who
have been there to check whether
I am all right and offering all the
support they could.
Hopefully, I should be back for the
start of next season so I will be ready
to go 100% straight into tackling the
season, enjoying it and hopefully
doing well.
Signing a professional deal in
November meant a lot. It is a dream
come true for a young kid coming
through the academy and signing
as a pro. Usually, you hear about
it, but to actually do it is an unreal
experience, a real dream come true.
On the back of my previous injury
last season, I approached this one
with a lot of positivity. There is no
point getting down about it because
there is nothing you can do about
it. I have just been positive the
whole time and hoping that
I come back stronger after
this injury.
Looking ahead, I’ve been
advised to keep doing
the exercises that they
tell me to do on my
knee, even if it is not
hurting. Just keep doing
those exercises to keep
the knee strong and
make sure that this sort
of injury does not happen
again in the future.
