Would your acreage benefit from soil amendment?
Mercer Celgar is looking for landowners with 2 or more acres within 55 km
that would benefit from using their Celgrow soil amendment. Pastures and
hay fields are good options.
Mercer Celgar will cover the costs of a Qualified Professional performing
soil sampling, obtaining government authorization and delivery costs of Celgrow
soil amendment based on access with a large truck/pup combination.
Acreage should be able to accommodate at least 6 truck/pup loads. The two
major components of Celgrow are individual wood fibres lost from the pulping
process and surplus bacteria from the wastewater biological treatment
facility. Wood fibres enhance soil moisture retention and bacteria are a good
source of soil nutrients. The landowner is responsible for spreading and incorporating
Celgrow into their soil.
Summer in Canada would not be the same without access
to freshwater lakes. Last year, Canada experienced a record
number of heatwaves, wildfires and extreme droughts
that affected lakes all over the country. Understanding the
impacts of climate change on our lakes requires data collected
over multiple years, but many of the 2 million lakes in
Canada are not currently monitored. Living Lakes Canada is
asking people to sign up to monitor their favourite lakes this
summer as part of the 2nd Annual National Lake Blitz.
Anyone with a camera, thermometer, and a lake they care
about can participate in this water monitoring program. It is
a simple way to contribute to lake stewardship in Canada. If
you love lake life, this program is for you.
Registration for the lake monitoring is now open until the
end of May. To sign up, go to
LakeBlitz.LivingLakesCanada.ca
or email LakeBlitz@LivingLakesCanada.ca. Each volunteer
will be mailed a free Lake Blitz Kit containing a thermometer,
datasheets, a field guide, and instructions on how to monitor
from data collection to data entry. Training will be provided
to all registered volunteers either online or by phone.
No time to monitor? Folks can still get involved. As part
of the Lake Blitz, Living Lakes Canada will be hosting the
Lake Biodiversity Photo Challenge which starts May 1. Submit
photos of your favourite lake via the Living Lakes Canada
website. Last year, Living Lakes Canada received almost
200 images from across Canada. Show us the lakes you love
in your province or territory. Don’t want to enter the photo
challenge but still want to share pics of your favourite lakes?
Use the hashtag #LakeBlitzPhoto when you post on social
media.
To learn more about the program and to register, visit
Coordinator at LakeBlitz@LivingLakesCanada.ca.
The Kaslo Housing Society is calling for (yet another)
Special Meeting
Thursday, May 19, 7pm via Zoom
We need to alter Article 6 (Borrowing) in our bylaws
so that it is clear that the KHS board is permitted to
sign the mortgage papers for the Penny Lane project.
There will only be one item on the agenda for this
meeting so it should be quick! We’ll need a 2/3
majority to pass the special resolution.
The Zoom link and more information
about the proposed bylaw change can be
