“Former Mine” Science and Art Centrein Wałbrzych
The coal mine located in Upper
Silesiawas established in 1770. In
1867 the decision was made to
deepen the shaft “Julius”
reaching a depth of 611 m. Then
two years later at a distance of
55 metres from the first shaft,
the second shaft “Ida” was
drilled. In 1946 it reached a maximum depth of 443 metres. The mine
went bankrupt in 1990 and the final liquidation was completed by 1998.
