donates big semi truck
Jim’s Pacific Garages Inc. of Pasco donated a 2005 Freightliner Columbia truck to
Tri-Tech Skills Center Diesel and Heavy Equipment program to enhance student training
on late model diesel trucks. The truck is valued at over $22,000.
Lin Grant, Tri-Tech’s Diesel and Heavy Equipment instructor, states “this truck is a
wonderful addition to our program. It will allow us to teach the next level of truck
systems technology”.
Karl Rehwalt, Jim’s Pacific Garages states “today’s diesel and truck technicians need to
be both proficient on computers as well as with a wrench in their hand”.
Jim’s Pacific Garages and the Tri-Tech Diesel and Heavy Equipment program have
partnered for many years with the Automotive Youth Education System (AYES) summer
internship program. The AYES program is designed to prepare young men and women
to become high performance entry level technicians. Rehwalt said “We have always
had students from the Tri-Tech Diesel program spend time with us in the AYES internship
program. Jim’s Pacific Garages provides the student a master technician as a
mentor, tools (that then become theirs to keep after finishing the program) and an
opportunity to experience “real world” situations all while being paid. We are always
looking for qualified technicians and appreciate Tri-Tech’s commitment to training
tomorrow’s workforce in this important industry”.
Tri-Tech truly appreciates and thanks Jim, Karl and Keith Rehwalt of Jim’s Pacific
Garages Inc.
The annual MAGIC Camp
(Mentoring a Girl in Construction)
had 24 girls from around the
Tri-Cities dipping their toes into
the world of construction.
MAGIC Camp allows female
students as young as 13 to try out
real-world skills in a safe environment.
Their physical safety comes courtesy of goggles, gloves and
screaming-pink hard hats, all of which the girls get to keep after camp,
along with some basic tools. This event is sponsored by the National
Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), supported by business
for the Department of Natural Resources in summer of 2011 and is now
attending Boise State University’s Forestry Program.
her get her first job. She gained a great deal of knowledge about the
fire service and helped her understand she wanted to work in wildland
firefighting rather than structural firefighting. She was the youngest
person they hired at that station because of the experience and
background she gained in the TT Fire Fighting program.
