The ’Ville was alive with
the Sound of Music!
Over sixty Batesville Community
School Corporation
students performed flawlessly
as they brought Rodgers and
Hammerstein’s The Sound of
Music alive. The show included
the musical’s “So Long,
Farewell,” “Sixteen Going
on Seventeen,” and “Maria.”
The multi-talented group also
rocked a few songs from the
Broadway production that
were not in the well-known
movie providing two nights
of memorable entertainment.

Mrs. Kyna
Ritz’s class
participated
in The Patriot’s
Pen,
a patriotic-themed writing
contest hosted by the VFW.
After finishing their piece for
class, students had the opportunity
to enter it in the VFW’s
contest to showcase their writing
abilities. Participants were
up against many competitors
from other schools and in the
end, the SLS students won the
top four out of five awards!

Manchester Elementary
recently competed in the Vex
Robotic World Championship
in Dallas, Texas. This firstyear
robotics team designed
and built a robot that competed
against opponents in a series
of specific challenges. The
team placed in the top 23% of
worldwide teams in their age
group, only seven months after
the team was formed.

at SLS a few decades ago
– today there may be fewer
band-aids and less Mercuro-
Chrome needed!
Speaking of rides, thanks
to the Batesville Kiwanis for
bringing their carnival downtown,
and to Mother Nature
for providing three gorgeous
days for carnival festivities!

with their coach Scott Sickmeier.
In the Southeastern
Indiana event, they received
the “Excellence Award” for
the overall highest performing
team, which qualified them to
compete at the Indiana state
level and then to receive an invitation
to compete in Dallas
at the World Championship!
At the Vex Robotic World
event, the Manchester team
and their robot had to perform
several tasks. Coach Sickmeier
explained that the biggest
challenge is not driving the
robot, but working with others
to develop a strategy on
