venues that rival the best the region has to offer. Indeed, this rural community has become a destination for
discerning and adventurous appetites.
The possibilities are endless. Perhaps you fancy a romantic evening of haute cuisine, fine wine and
majestic vistas followed by a Broadway show, or a casual artisan coffee with friends before heading to an
art reception. You might prefer craft beer and watching sports or a simple fast meal and family movie. On

To pair your dining experience with a side
of entertainment head to the Regal IMAX movie
complex that anchors Town Center. One freeway exit west
Regal IMAX
is exquisite Harris Center for the Arts on the campus of Folsom Lake
College, offering world-class performances from national touring
shows as well as local theater productions and dance. Not to be missed
there are musical masterpieces performed by El Dorado musical Theatre,
the Folsom Lake Symphony and Folsom Concert Association.
Whatever your passion for recreation, you’re
bound to find it in or near El Dorado Hills.
The community, in the Sierra foothills
east of Sacramento, sits midway between
California’s robust capital city and Lake
Tahoe’s year-round wonderland. Within a
short drive, you can enjoy history, theater,
the arts, sports, shopping, wine tasting,
whitewater rafting, skiing or just breathing
cool mountain air. It was for good reason
this town was chosen to be the home of one
of California’s 18 Welcome Centers.
For big city entertainment and
sports, head west for a 30-minute drive
to metropolitan Sacramento, the seat of
government and home to the Sacramento
Kings and Sacramento Republic FC. Drive
eastward and reach Apple Hill with its acres
of fruit orchards, homemade strudels and
old-time family fun. Or take easy day trips
to try your luck at Red Hawk Casino; taste
the wines at mountain vineyards tended by
dedicated artisan winemakers who produce
top-notch varietals; explore the pristine
El Dorado National Forest; and, finally, in
little over an hour, visit Lake Tahoe, the
legendary playground of year-round activity
and exciting nightlife nestled in the scenic
peaks of the Sierra. Along the way, history
buffs will want to relive the discovery of gold
in Coloma or explore the authentic Gold
Rush downtown of Placerville, originally
known as “Hangtown.”
In your own community, you can golf,
take in a movie, play or music festival,
dine according to your own style, shop at
specialty boutiques, bike scenic trails or
attend a variety of local events. The EDH
Community Services District runs a yearround
schedule of sports, classes, camps and
special programs for all ages and operates an
aquatic center and active senior center.
If you love the water, nearby
Folsom Lake State Recreation
Area beckons with swimming,
sailing, fishing, hiking, biking
and camping. With the region’s
perfect weather, this popular
playground is enjoyable all year.
The historic American River –
the River of Gold – entices the
adventuresome with long, scenic
bike rides, kayaking and some of
the country’s most exciting whitewater
rafting.
