FROM THE TOUCHLINE

I would like to wish you all a very warm welcome to The

Limestone Construction Field, Monks Sports Club this

afternoon for our game against Heworth in the National

Conference League Division Two.

We welcome the players, supporters and committee of Heworth to Woolston and hope

that they have had a safe journey across town and enjoy our hospitality today.

We have a very long and friendly relationship with Heworth that goes right back to the

very beginning of the National League in the 1985-86 season, when they were one of

the founder members along with ourselves and eight other teams. Over the ensuing

years we have had some great meetings with both sides having their fair share of success.

Stalwarts of the club Barry Jackson and Ken Sykes will hopefully be with them

today so it will be great to reminisce about the good old days.

Last week saw us gain a much needed win over Bradford Dudley Hill that kept us in

the play off positions but we know that we need to string a few wins together if we are

to stay there, especially with Dewsbury Celtic breathing down our neck. Heworth come

here as league leaders; they have had a fine campaign and deservedly sit at the head

of the table. We wish them luck for the rest of the season but hopefully they leave here

empty handed.

Our NWML side return to action today at Leigh East ‘A’ (12.30pm kick off) and that is

followed by a home game against Liverpool Lizards on Wednesday evening (27th July)

kick off 7.00pm. Please get along and support the boys on Wednesday if you are able

to.

This weekend our Junior Section are hosting a ‘War of the Roses’ Festival over two

days; today it is our Under 7s-Under 11s will face Yorkshire opposition on Hillock Lane,

whilst tomorrow it will be the turn of our Under 12s-Under 15s to take centre stage on

the Limestone Construction Field, Monk Sports Club. If you can get along and support

our youngsters, then it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your attendance today and we hope to see you again very soon. Why not

bring a friend along with you next time and introduce them to the Rovers!!!
