John Norman Mackle
June 7, 1954 - July 31, 2022
It is with the greatest of sadness we announce the
sudden passing of our brother, father, grandfather
and friend John Mackle.
John was a very kind and giving person.
He was born in Red Lake, Ontario. He often
spoke of summers in “Lake of the Woods” and
Kenora area, and his grandfather’s beautiful
Chris-Craft boat.
John lived in Kitsilano and East Vancouver, he
was the middle brother of three - younger brother
Geoff and older brother Pat. They all moved to
Kaslo in 1977.
The Mackles were quickly liked in Kaslo. John
worked as a mill worker, rock quarrier, miner,
driller and blaster. In 1998 he started a drywall
and stucco apprenticeship and for many years
worked in the commercial drywall industry in
BC and Alberta. As well as many residential drywall
and stucco projects in The Kootenays until
his semi-retirement in 2013. He worked casually
after that on local projects.
John loved to laugh and joke, read a good book,
helping others and old cars from the tires to the dash.
John wasn’t the kind of person you liked... he was the
kind of person you loved because of who he was.
He is predeceased by his parents Joe and Joyce,
younger brother Geoff and partner Janice Heis.
Survived by his brother Pat, daughters Malaika
(Richard) and Emma (Steven) and granddaughters
Mailey and Sophie, and many friends.
Thanks for everything John! And thanks for
being you!
Fall offering seventeen courses in a myriad of disciplines including
writing, film, photography, singing, acting, and digital and visual arts.
The semester is longer than in previous years running from September
“after spending the summer with our families and in our gardens, the
Fall is the perfect time to nurture creativity” says Smith. Practice the
art of drawing en plein air, learn the fundamentals of drawing with
ink, build your painting skills, try out lino printing, bind some books,
record your life story, photograph your artwork, get creative on your
iPad, learn 16mm low-tech film processing, add your voice, be an
It is with profound sadness that the family of
Gary Conrad Clausen announce, after a courageous
battle against cancer, with his loving wife by his side,
he passed away at home on August 6, 2022.
Gary was born on December 2, 1946 in Vancouver, BC.
At an early age he moved to Dryden, Ontario where he
met the love of his life
Patricia “Pat” Moody.
Gary and Pat married
on July 19, 1967 and
then started building
their life in Fruitvale,
BC. Together they had
three children, Cathy
(Blair), Dary, Kerry
(Tom).
Gary started his career
in BC at Cominco
and then retired after
30+ years. During the
summers Gary and Pat
made many trips to
Ontario and Vancouver
Island to visit family. One of his biggest hobbies was
creating and building beautiful woodworking projects.
Countless of his creations were for his family, but many
went to others in the community. He took great pride
in taking care of his chickens and kept them on a tight
schedule. Some of his grandchildren’s fondest memories
are the many camping trips they did, especially to Garland
Bay and Lost Ledge. The family will be forever grateful
for all the quality time Gary and Pat spent with the greatgrandchilden
in the most recent years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years,
son and daughter, 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren,
and many nieces and nephews. Sadly 20 short days prior
to his passing he was predeceased by his daughter, Cathy.
A small private family service will be held at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy please make a donation to
the Trail Oncology department.
