John Norman Mackle
June 7, 1954 - July 31, 2022
It is with the greatest of sadness we announce the
sudden passing of our brother, father, grandfather
and friend John Mackle.
John was a very kind and giving person.
He was born in Red Lake, Ontario. He often
spoke of summers in “Lake of the Woods” and
Kenora area, and his grandfather’s beautiful
Chris-Craft boat.
John lived in Kitsilano and East Vancouver, he
was the middle brother of three - younger brother
Geoff and older brother Pat. They all moved to
Kaslo in 1977.
The Mackles were quickly liked in Kaslo. John
worked as a mill worker, rock quarrier, miner,
driller and blaster. In 1998 he started a drywall
and stucco apprenticeship and for many years
worked in the commercial drywall industry in
BC and Alberta. As well as many residential drywall
and stucco projects in The Kootenays until
his semi-retirement in 2013. He worked casually
after that on local projects.
John loved to laugh and joke, read a good book,
helping others and old cars from the tires to the dash.
John wasn’t the kind of person you liked... he was the
kind of person you loved because of who he was.
He is predeceased by his parents Joe and Joyce,
younger brother Geoff and partner Janice Heis.
Survived by his brother Pat, daughters Malaika
(Richard) and Emma (Steven) and granddaughters
Mailey and Sophie, and many friends.
Thanks for everything John! And thanks for
being you!
It is with profound sadness that the family of
Gary Conrad Clausen announce, after a courageous
battle against cancer, with his loving wife by his side,
he passed away at home on August 6, 2022.
Gary was born on December 2, 1946 in Vancouver, BC.
At an early age he moved to Dryden, Ontario where he
met the love of his life
Patricia “Pat” Moody.
Gary and Pat married
on July 19, 1967 and
then started building
their life in Fruitvale,
BC. Together they had
three children, Cathy
(Blair), Dary, Kerry
(Tom).
Gary started his career
in BC at Cominco
and then retired after
30+ years. During the
summers Gary and Pat
made many trips to
Ontario and Vancouver
Island to visit family. One of his biggest hobbies was
creating and building beautiful woodworking projects.
Countless of his creations were for his family, but many
went to others in the community. He took great pride
in taking care of his chickens and kept them on a tight
schedule. Some of his grandchildren’s fondest memories
are the many camping trips they did, especially to Garland
Bay and Lost Ledge. The family will be forever grateful
for all the quality time Gary and Pat spent with the greatgrandchilden
in the most recent years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years,
son and daughter, 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren,
and many nieces and nephews. Sadly 20 short days prior
to his passing he was predeceased by his daughter, Cathy.
A small private family service will be held at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy please make a donation to
the Trail Oncology department.
Native Plant Gardens
You may have seen the photos of goats and sheep
munching on vetch earlier this summer on the
grounds of the Kootenay Gallery. The goats will be
discussed, along with other interesting details in a
public talk on August 27 at 2:00 pm.
This talk will highlight the progress on the development
of native plant gardens. The gardens are
designed to attract and support native pollinators
at the Kootenay Gallery. The space, located behind
the gallery, is being transformed into a suite of
garden spaces showcasing different approaches to
native plant gardening, often called rewilding, and
include a butterfly garden, pollinator meadow, and
flowering shrub hedgerow.
More garden space is being added to these gardens
this year and will feature interpretive signage
following an EcoGarden approach, a program
developed by the Central Kootenay Invasive Species
Society (CKISS). Olga Hallborg, Castlegar
Butterflyway Rangers Coordinator and Bren Beckwith,
PhD, Owner, KinSeed Ecologies have been
driving forces behind the native plant gardens
located on the grounds of the Gallery.
Olga Hallborg will share her inspiration for
developing a Castlegar chapter of Butterflyway
Rangers and passion for building a public space for
native plants and their pollinators.
Bren Beckwith, the gardens designer, will
describe the transformation of the space into pollinator
habitat, highlight some of the key plant species
in the gardens, and link this project to others in
the
the region, as well as provide information on how
people can continue to learn and get involved.
Most of the plants that are growing in the Kootenay
Gallery gardens have been provided by Kin-
Seed Ecologies, Bren’s Nelson-based company that
specializes in wild seed and plants that are truly
native to the West Kootenay region.
The Kootenay Gallery Native Plant Demonstration
Gardens are a proud partnership of the Kootenay
Gallery, Castlegar Butterflyway Rangers,
Castlegar Communities in Bloom, KinSeed Ecologies,
CKISS, and the Kootenay Native Plant Society
(KNPS). Entry to this event is by donation and
is free to Kootenay Gallery members. This talk is
being presented as part of the programming for the
exhibition Transcience by Janet Kabatoff. The exhibition
opens August 26 at 7:00 pm and continues
until October 29.
The Kootenay Gallery and the Native Plant Garden
are located at 120 Heritage Way. For more information,
Code Red
It’s been over a year since the heat dome in British Columbia
killed 619 people within just one week. It was the worst
weather disaster in Canadian history. In Central Europe a
heat wave with record temperatures soaring above 40 degrees
Celsius has claimed more than 1,000 lives in Portugal alone.
On World Health Day in April 2022, Doctors for Planetary
Health – West Coast (D4PH) issued a report titled “CODE
RED for British Columbia: Time to declare a climate and
ecological emergency and make peace with nature.” The
intention was to ensure a copy of this document gets into the
hands of every MLA in B.C.
On July 21, Kootenay West members of Doctors and Nurses
for Planetary Health -Kootenay Boundary (DNPH-KB) were
delighted to have the opportunity to discuss the importance
of the document and pass it on to Kootenay West MLA and
Minister of Forests, Katrine Conroy. The extreme urgency of
the climate crisis we are in cannot be overstated. It is the biggest
threat to our health, and at the same time, our greatest
opportunity for improving global health. We know how busy
healthcare workers have been since the start of the pandemic.
But those of us involved in Doctors and Nurses for Planetary
Health in the Kootenays and on the coast see the urgency
of the climate crisis and have prioritized our efforts to work
towards climate action and a just recovery.
The Code Red report is based on a document published last
year by The Lancet medical journal which demonstrated the
relationship between health and climate change. This BC-Focused
Code Red lays out the extent of damage human-generated
greenhouse gas emissions are causing all beings and the
planet. It also shows how five climate and ecological actions
“will have clear benefits for all people and natural ecosystems,
offering a path to a more prosperous, just, and equitable
society.”
Code Red urges our government to act now to:
• Declare a climate emergency
• Take action on climate change
• Protect and restore nature
• Create broad transformative change focused on human
well being in balance with nature
• Ensure a just transition
Doctors, Nurses and health researchers are sounding the
cry; we are seeing the impacts in our patients and around
the world. Code Red concludes that we have the opportunity
to vastly improve our world. BC is positioned to be a global
leader in climate and ecological policy and action. The Clean
BC road map is a start, but it will take every person, business,
industry and government to play a role in implementing
these plans. The connection between planetary and individual
health and climate change is undeniable. As climate scientist
Katherine Hayhoe says, “It’s not our planet itself: it will
orbit the sun long after we’re gone. What’s at stake is literally
us.”
Code Red can be read at doctorsforplanetaryhealth.com.
DNPH-KB is part of the West Kootenay Climate Hub . Check
issue of our time.
Would your acreage benefit from soil amendment?
Mercer Celgar is looking for landowners with 2 or more acres within 55 km
that would benefit from using their Celgrow soil amendment. Pastures and
hay fields are good options.
Mercer Celgar will cover the costs of a Qualified Professional performing
soil sampling, obtaining government authorization and delivery costs of Celgrow
soil amendment based on access with a large truck/pup combination.
Acreage should be able to accommodate at least 6 truck/pup loads. The two
major components of Celgrow are individual wood fibres lost from the pulping
process and surplus bacteria from the wastewater biological treatment
facility. Wood fibres enhance soil moisture retention and bacteria are a good
source of soil nutrients. The landowner is responsible for spreading and incorporating
Celgrow into their soil.
Cycling in epic cancer fundraiser
Anouschka Riverin, finance manager with the Regional District
of Kootenay Boundary, will be swapping her calculator
for cycling when she takes on the ‘Tour de Cure’ 100km fundraising
bike ride in Chilliwack later this month.
Her team, ‘Just Beat it’, hopes to complete the epic, in-person
cycling challenge in under 5 hours and has raised nearly $2000
to help the BC Cancer Foundation break down the disease
through lifesaving research and enhancements to care.
Three of the Rosslander’s closest outdoor adventure buddies
will join her on BC’s biggest cycling fundraiser when she saddles
up on Saturday, 27 August. Together they will be fuelled
and motivated by the ‘generosity of colleagues at the RDKB’
who have been donating to it throughout her event training.
“Helping to change the stigma around cancer has been a
learning experience filled with constant personal growth,” says
Anouschka, who is a cancer survivor and openly shares her
story when prompted by colleagues and friends. Diagnosed
with advanced Stage 4 colon cancer metastasized to her liver
in November 2020, the BC Cancer Foundation played a major
role in her recovery. It takes a whole team to break away from
cancer and the players in Anouschka’s have been vast: The
oncology team, Dr. Scotland and Dr. Schumacher at Kootenay
Boundary Regional Hospital; her nurses and Dr. Eeason
at Kelowna General; the radiation team and Dr. Liu at Vancouver’s
BC Cancer Agency and her family doctor Dr.Jonas
Sandstrom.
“I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me over the
last couple of years as well as the kindness and generosity of
my colleagues at the RDKB. This cause is very personal to me
but it affects everyone - nearly 1 in 2 Canadians will be diagnosed
with cancer, and 1 in 4 will die from the disease,” adds
Anouschka.
Looking the picture of health, you wouldn’t expect Anouschka’s
journey to have involved 12 rounds of chemotherapy,
short-course radiation therapy and three surgeries in 2021
alone. Apart from a small bump just below her right clavicle,
beneath which lies a power port tube to her heart, there is little
evidence on the outside of her scuffle with cancer. Her chemo
tube is flushed monthly, and it remains in place as a constant
reminder that remission is unlikely to last. She is very upbeat
about it all and the team will be celebrating the fundraising
event at the Waterpark afterwards.
“My biggest concern is for my butt! I’m going to be on that
saddle for a long stretch,” adds Anouschka who has been clocking
over 100km
Winter fishing
Lake Fishing The winter season is prime
fishing time. Because of the depth of Kootenay
Lake and the flow of the cu rents in the A row
Lakes (both lakes are like widened areas of
the Columbia River system), the water never
freezes. Some people claim that wintertime
fishing on the lakes is the best. You need an
assortment of lures. Bucktails, plugs, apexes,
Bi l Normans, and flasher/hoochies. That should
Ice Fishing If you have a sled you can
acces some of the sma l alpine lakes that do
freeze. Many of these are stocked courtesy
of the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC.
Again check www.sitesandtrailsbc.ca Another
exce lent source is www.gofishbc.com
For ice fishing, it is important to go to areas
of the lake where the fish are most likely to
concentrate. Fo rainbow trout and eastern
brook char, the best fishing is often done in
water less than five metres deep; in many
situations, fishing in depths of three metres
Hunting & Fishing
PAL, RPAL, and CORE courses
The Nelson District Rod & Gun Club is again sponsoring
a suite of training courses for folks interested
in the safe handling of firearms for recreation and /
or hunting.
The Canadian Firearms Safety Courses (PAL for unrestricted
long rifles and shotguns and RPAL for restricted
firearms like pistols) will be offered during
the period September 10 - 25, 2022. These are one
day courses, including testing time. Minimum age
for PAL is 12 and RPAL is 18. Safe handling of all
common firearms and safe shooting techniques are
taught. Cost $125 for PAL and $90 for RPAL. Classes
are limited to 12 persons per instructor.
The Conservation and Outdoor Recreation
Education (CORE) two-day course includes practical
firearms handling and a written examination
on conservation, ethics, Indigenous peoples and
hunting in BC, BC law and regulations, first aid
and survival, firearms safety, and animal and bird
identification. This course is required for hunting. It is
open to minimum age 10 at a cost of $150 and will be
offered September 17-18 and October 1-2.
For further information and registration in any of
the above, contact Alan Bond @ 250-352-2289.
The Essentials
As is the case with many hobbies and pastimes, hunting requires some unique gear. Hunters need to bring some essential gear
along on each trip to ensure their safety, while other gear and gadgets are all about convenience.
• Proper clothing: Hunting clothing comes in two main varieties: camouflage and blaze orange. Camo patterns mimic
real-life foliage or use a digital pattern of natural colors to trick the animals’ eyes, preventing them from detecting the hunters’
outlines. Blaze orange hunting gear, from coats to hats to coveralls, is designed to make hunters visible to other hunters. Some
game, like whitetail deer, cannot detect the orange color spectrum, so hunters need not worry that they will be compromising
their hunting efforts. Depending on the hunting area and its specific regulations, camo or orange clothing will be required. Hunting
clothing also should be comfortable for the weather and the conditions. Waterproof or water-resistant clothing can protect
hunters from the elements as well. In cold climates, layer up and wear insulated materials.
• Weapon and ammo: Hunters should always look for ammunition details for the animals they will be hunting so they
choose the correct weapon and ammunition type. Weapons should be maintained and cleaned for safety, and all hunters should
consider taking a course in the proper handling of weapons.
• Knife: Knives are a staple for every hunting trip and can be used for multiple purposes. Most hunters prefer a dedicated
knife for field dressing the animal, which includes gutting, boning, skinning, and butchering. Some knives fold and others are
fixed blades.
• Legal documents: Hunters should always carry their hunting licenses and have game tags on hand to mark their kills
appropriately. Depending on where one lives and hunts, licenses may need to be visible on the person.
• Calls and scents: It may be possible to lure game closer with special calls or scents. In addition, hunters may want to
utilize scent killers, which are sprays and washes that remove human scents from clothing and gear so game are unaware that
hunters are present.
• Binoculars: While one may be able to use the scope on a weapon to spot game, binoculars are more efficient.
• First aid kit and other safety gear: Hunters should stock a first aid kit, emergency phone, water and snacks to stay
hydrated and fed, and a foldable paper map in the event cell phone signals fade or prove unreliable.
Hunting requires patience, dedication and essential gear. With the right supplies, a hunting venture is that much more
enjoyable.
Try Like Terry
When Terry Fox
told his mom and dad
that he was planning
a cross country Run,
beginning at St. John’s,
Newfoundland, his
mom Betty asked why
it couldn’t just be across
BC. Terry’s answer:
“because it’s not just
people in BC who get
cancer.” He knew that
the only way he could
reach his enormous
fundraising goal of $1
million was to take on
our huge country, one
Canadian at a time.
One ask at a time. One
try at a time. Terry died
knowing his try had
touched the hearts of
24 million Canadians.
To date, his amazing
strength, commitment,
and legacy have raised
over $800 million for cancer treatment and research.
Terry said, as he dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic
Ocean, on April 12, 1980 “it all begins today!”
On Sunday September 18, “it all begins AGAIN today”, in
Nelson, as the community comes together once more in-person
at Lakeside Park, to support Terry’s legacy for cancer research.
The route will be marked at .5 km distance intervals, so that,
rain or shine, everyone, be they old or young, be they walking,
running, biking, or roller-blading, can participate. Registration
can be done on-line or at the park, but everyone must check in
at the registration table.
To register on-line, go to https://run.terryfox.ca/nelson
Registration and check-in at the Park begins at 8:30 am.,
near the gate, with speeches at 9:20 am., and the run starts at
9:30 am.
Don’t say cancer can’t be defeated. Say we have to TeRrY.
Don’t say we can’t make a difference. Say we have to TeRrY.
About The Terry Fox Foundation
The Terry Fox Foundation is an international organization
whose mission is to maintain the vision and principles of
Terry Fox while raising money for cancer research through the
annual Terry Fox Runs, School Runs and other fundraising initiatives.
To date, over $800 million has been raised worldwide
in Terry Fox’s name to fund the most promising and innovative
research. The Terry Fox Foundation National Office is located
in Burnaby, BC and has offices in nine provinces. Visit terryfox.
BE PREPARED: Grab-and-go bag
An emergency plan is a playbook for how you and your
household will respond to disasters, including wildfires. Knowing
what to do will reduce anxiety and help keep you focused
and safe. Part of that plan includes having a grab-and-go bag.
A grab-and-go bag is a small emergency kit that’s easy to take
with you, in case you need to leave right away. It’s a good idea to
make grab-and-go bags for your home, workplace and vehicle.
Include:
- Food (ready to eat) and water (think of pet food too!)
- Phone charger and battery bank
- Small battery-powered or hand-crank radio
- Battery-powered or hand-crank flashlight
- Extra batteries
- Small first-aid kit and personal medications
- Personal toiletries and items, such as an extra pair of glasses
or contact lenses
- Copy of your emergency plan
- Copies of important documents, such as insurance papers
and identification
- Cash in small bills
- Local map with your family meeting place identified
- Seasonal clothing and an emergency blanket
- Pen and notepad
- Whistle
For a full list of items to pack in your grab-and-go bags, go
Monarch Butterflies Return
On June
24, Tiffany
Muncaster, a
summer intern
working for
the Pollination
Pathway Climate
Adaptation
Initiative, was
surveying showy
milkweed in the
Pend d’Oreille
valley when she
caught a glimpse
of a bright orange
butterfly fluttering amongst the milkweeds. “The vibrant
orange wings were striking, I couldn’t believe my eyes, it had
to be a Monarch,” said Muncaster.
Returning a week later, a Pollination Pathway team was
delighted to discover at least 21 monarch larvae happily feeding
on young milkweed plants. “This is the fourth confirmed
breeding site for Monarchs in the West Kootenay, and the
first time Monarchs have been seen here since 2018,” says
Valerie Huff, program manager of the Pollination Pathway, a
program of the Kootenay Native Plant Society (KNPS).
The western Monarch population has seen precipitous
declines in recent years, losing more than 95% of their
numbers since the 1980s. Western Monarchs overwinter in
California, unlike their eastern cousins who overwinter in
Mexico. In the spring, they fly north over several generations,
reaching Southern British Columbia. In late August, the
Monarchs born here will fly all the way back to California.
Numbers in California rebounded this year from an all-time
low in 2021, a hopeful sign that there is still time to protect
the species. “We are thrilled to celebrate the resilience of this
iconic insect,” says Huff. “And we all have a role to play in
supporting Monarchs in the West Kootenay.”
Are you as excited about Monarchs as we are? Here’s what
you can do:
1. Protect, restore and enhance existing milkweed populations.
Monarchs cannot complete their lifecycle without it,
and milkweed is in serious decline here in the West Kootenay.
Volunteer with KNPS and support the growing local network
of monarch waystations. http://kootenaynativeplants.ca
2. Create new habitat by planting showy milkweed (Asclepias
speciosa) and other important nectar plants in your gardens
from locally sourced seeds. http://kootenaynativeplants.
ca/our-work/milkweed-for-monarchs/
3. Let KNPS know if you observe Monarch activity.
• Do not disturb the Monarch (in any life phase) but take
clear photos and write down a description of what you see.
Send this information, along with the date and location, to
info@kootenaynativeplants.ca, with “Monarch sighting” in
the subject line.
• If you have milkweed planted in your yard, watch for
flying adults and leaf-eating by larvae.
• Be a citizen scientist and go on a mission for the monarch.
https://www.mission-monarch.org/
• Learn more about monarch butterflies by visiting the
Monarch Joint Venture website. (https://monarchjointventure.org)
About the Kootenay Native Plant Society:
The Kootenay Native Plant Society (KNPS) celebrates
the rich native flora of the West Kootenay region of British
Columbia. We seek to foster an understanding and appreciation
of our native plants and to preserve their diversity
for future generations. The Pollination Pathway Climate
Adaptation Initiative is a five-year KNPS project focused on
enhancing plant-pollinator networks and building ecological
resilience in the Lower Columbia Region of south-central
British Columbia.
New Long-Term Care Beds
People in Nelson and surrounding areas will soon have
access to high-quality long-term care in their community
with the construction of 75 new publicly funded long-term
care beds at 902 Eleventh St. in Nelson.
The long-term care is a partnership between the Ministry
of Health, Interior Health, Columbia Basin Trust, and
Golden Life Management and is expected to be complete in
September 2024. It will be part of the Nelson Health Campus,
a new modern location that will include the amalgamation
of existing local health services into one place.
“Seniors and indigenous elders deserve safe, comfortable
and high-quality care close to home,” said Adrian Dix, Minister
of Health. “This new facility, which is part of the largest
one-time increase in long-term care beds in the Interior in
will ensure that older adults in Nelson and surrounding
areas have access to care in their community when they need
it.”
After a competitive bidding process, the contract to
finance, build and own the new development was awarded
to Mount St. Francis (CBT) Enterprises Ltd., a partnership
between Columbia Basin Trust and Golden Life Management.
Interior Health will lease and operate the facility.
The long-term care building and the Nelson Health Campus
will be located on the old Mount St. Francis hospital
site, which was built in the 1940s and operated by the sisters
of St. Ann. The hospital closed in 2005 and the deconstruction
will be complete in July 2022. Interior Health consulted
with the sisters of St. Ann, the local heritage community
and the City of Nelson before deconstruction. Anything of
historical importance was preserved.
“I am thrilled by the announcement of new long-term care
homes and the Nelson Health Campus building in our community,”
said Brittny Anderson, MLA for Nelson-Creston.
“These projects will ensure expanded access to high-quality
care for seniors in our community and is one more example
of our government’s commitment to improving care for
seniors in B.C.”
The new long-term care building will feature a modern
design and provide a warm and caring environment. The
building features private bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms,
and dining and activity spaces for each small neighbourhood.
Other amenities include secure outdoor courtyards
and patios.
Apple Picking Tips
For apples that are ready to eat (or dunk in
caramel), pick from the outside of the tree.
Apples on the outer branches ripen first, so
work your way in as the season progresses.
Remember, once you pick an apple it stops
the ripening process—so for the best taste,
make sure the fruit is ready to be picked.
Pick, Don’t Shake
To properly pick an apple, roll the apple
upward off the branch and give a little twist.
You’ll know the apple is ripe if the stem is easily
removed from the spur of the branch. Don’t
pull the apple straight away from the tree, and
never, shake the branches. Why? Even a gentle
shake can cause a heap of apples to fall to the
ground. Without a net, this can give the fruit
major bruises. Unnecessary food waste.
Avoid Bruising
Whether you opt for plastic bags, a reusable
tote, or a wooden basket, be sure to store and
stow your apples with care. Gently place them
in your carrying container to avoid bruising.
Bruised apples rot faster and will cause the other
apples to rot as well.
Bats on the move
Are you noticing more bats around your house or property?
You are not alone! Mid-summer is the time when
landowners typically notice more bat activity, may have
bats flying into their house, and occasionally find a bat on
the ground or roosting in unusual locations.
These surprise visitors are often the young pups. “In
July and August, pups are learning to fly, and their early
efforts may land them in locations where they are more
likely to come in contact with humans“, says Elodie Kuhnert,
regional coordinator with the Kootenay Got Bats?
BC Community Bat Program. As noticed in 2021, heat
scratch from a bat, immediately wash the area with soap
and water for 15 minutes. Also contact your public health
or your doctor as soon as possible, or go to the emergency
department. For more information on rabies please refer
to the BCCDC website http://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/
diseases-conditions/rabies.
Bats are often found in close association with humans,
as some species (such as the Little Brown Myotis) have
adapted to live in human structures, and colonies may be
found under roofs or siding, or in attics, barns, or other
buildings. Female bats gather in maternity colonies to
have a single pup in early summer, where they will remain
until the pups are ready to fly. Having bats is viewed as
a benefit by many landowners, who appreciate the insect
control. Others may prefer to exclude the bats. Under
the BC Wildlife Act it is illegal to exterminate or directly
harm bats, and exclusion should only be done in the fall
and winter after it is determined that the bats are no longer
in the building. If you have bats on your property, the
BC Community Bat Project can offer advice and support.
You can keep bats out of your living space by keeping
doors and windows closed and ensuring window screens
do not have any holes. If you find a live bat in a room
of your home, open the window and close interior doors
until the bat leaves, or follow the steps here: https://batworld.org/what-to-do-if-you-found_a_bat/#indoors
.
Always vaccinate your pets against rabies.
to report bat sightings, landowners can visit the Got Bats?
The Langham is honoured
to present Of Light Itself
showcasing the life and work of
the eclectic Japanese Canadian
artist Tsuneko Kokubo who
was born in Steveston, B.C. in
1937, and since 1994, has been
living on the shores of Slocan
Lake in Silverton. Fondly
known as ‘Koko’, her creativity
and knowledge in several arenas of experience and study
are reflected in her multiple bodies of work, both visual
and in performance physical theatre.
The exhibition is a 66-year survey of Koko’s creative life,
which includes paintings from her earlier art school days
to her current works in oils and acrylics. Parallel to her
visual work, the exhibition includes sample video clips
of past choreographed performances over the years,
and interviews, expanding her dynamic vision through
multiple mediums. Curated by Maggie Tchir.
Well life is still not what we would call normal; but the Real Estate
market is starting to normalize. The trend is starting to favour
Buyers and more inventory is emerging. The Covid driven spike in
the marketplace has settled down, and with rising interest rates and
more inventory the market is adjusting. Prices that we saw in the first
quarter of 2022 simply don’t exist anymore. Sellers are looking at
offers and considering their options, they may be able to buy their new
home for a lower price; so this seems more relative. If you are thinking
of selling, call Joni.
