T
he pandemic has forced many of us to embrace a slower
pace. “Slow” certainly doesn’t have to be synonymous with
“boring,” though, as we take more time to appreciate our
surroundings and find the beauty in Jeollabuk-do’s art,
history, and culture. In Volume 2 of this year’s magazine,
we focus on the theme of “slow summer.”
We have plenty of recommendations for places to enjoy nature
in its most vibrant season. Go hiking around Jinan, or follow the
Mangyeong River from Jinan to the charming Bibjeong Village in
Wanju to visit its train cafe. If trains are indeed your thing, learn
more about the history of the Gunsan Line at a museum in Impi-myeon.
And for an overnight getaway in nature, why not stay at a
200-year-old hanok tucked away in the mountains?
This issue also visits Deokjin Park in Jeonju to learn about its
history and celebrate its recent renovations, including an elegant
hanok-style library. In fact, it’s just one of many unique themed
libraries sprinkled throughout the city, a few of which are also
featured in this issue. Naejang Mountain Water Park is another
great place to enjoy a slow summer evening with a fountain show.
For more adventurous types, find out about Korean traditional
archery and where to practice it in Jeonju. Or catch up with the
latest art news from reviews of a recent student art show and the
annual Jeonju International Film Festival.
Above all, we hope you stay safe and healthy during your “slow
summer”!
Thank you.
