SUPERLAP Brad Binder laps Kyalami for Superpole… There has been a lot of excitement around the Binder boys while they have been at home for the holidays. If you follow our social media pages, you’ll see that while he was here, Brad Binder took his bike around the Kyalami track, to set a superpole lap record… It was a top secret Red Bull event – but not so secret because so many motorcycle and racing companies have offices in the Kyalami park – so they could hear the bike roaring around the track – and there was even cell phone footage of Brad bombing around. Red Bull is good at that… But anyway. This is the first time that a Moto GP bike has been around the current track, so we kinda have to guess that a lap record has certainly been set, but Red Bull will only let everyone know on the 18th of August. Why? Who knows, but isn’t if fantastic that Kyalami and SA is getting so much international attention for the correct reasons. And we also have to wonder, with all the F1 debate whether there is not a MOTO GP race being considered for South Africa… That would be quite something. Let’s hold thumbs. Anyway – here’s the “official” release from Red Bull and we look forward to seeing what Brads lap record is… South African MotoGP star and Red Bull athlete Brad Binder makes a return to his home country for a “Superlap” where he intended to set a new benchmark lap time at the Kyalami race track, where no official track record for a modern era MotoGP bike has been established – until now. Binder became Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s first-ever MotoGP winner in his rookie season - now in his 3rd season in the premier class, whilst home for the summer break he has taken on the challenge of setting a new benchmark at his home track Kyalami the current best known time on a motorcycle stands at 1:48.078. Speaking to media on 13th of July 2022, at a press conference hosted by OG Molefe “I am really excited to be back home, It has always been a childhood dream of mine to ride a Moto GP bike in my home country. My goal is to set a new benchmark around Kyalami on a Moto GP bike, and I believe that I can achieve this” says Binder. Binder took to the track for his “Superlap” describing the track as “|world class with facilities on a par” with many of those he currently races on: “It was cool to ride the MotoGP bike at Kyalami, the track is special, unique and there is nothing quite like it out there. I’m excited to ride at home and set a new benchmark”. The Grand Prix winner will resume racing at the British GP on the 7th of August 2022 with hopes of challenging for the podium once again.
