Automotive Audio tips B R I D G I N G P O W E R A M P S Most car amplifiers have a feature called "bridge mode," where two channels can be combined as one channel to produce maximum output power. Just imagine, you’re looking to power a 200 watts RMS rated 4-ohm sub, but you are trying to avoid purchasing an expensive mono amplifier. You can take a small 2-channel amp that normally puts out two channels of 60 watts RMS and bridge it to produce around 120 watts RMS, which would be perfect for your needs. Thsi is done by using the negative signal from one channel with the positive signal of the other channel, effectively doubling what each channel alone could output through a 2-ohm load. Usually, this is the maximum wattage of the amp. This way you're also optimizing your system's power potential.
