Handmade for Christmas is so much more… 

Handmade for Christmas at the Workhouse Chapel is an 

annual extravaganza of loveliness, a cornucopia of wonder, 

bringing together work by dozens of incredibly talented 

makers and artists from Dorset and surrounding counties. 

We do our very best to bring you a diverse and exceptional 

range of fairly priced, properly hand-crafted, completely 

unique gifts. Who knows, we might even have the perfect 

thing for Uncle Herbert - and then you’ll need a special little 

treat for yourself…

Hello! Hello! I’m Rose - the one with the 

glasses - and Handmade for Christmas 

is my baby. I like to pretend I’m in charge - 

please don’t disillusion me… 

Kate is my trusty second-in-command - she 

works super-hard to retrieve and maintain 

the control and balance that I have mislaid. 

Then there’s Bob - his job is lighting the fire, 

stacking the woodpile, lifting heavy stuff, 

fetching and carrying - not a genderstereotypical 

role at all… 

The three of us make up the all-year team, 

but even though we’re blooming wonderful, 

we couldn’t manage Handmade for Christmas 

without help from the Fabulously, 

Wonderfully, Incredibly Helpful 

Elves. They’ll be oh-so-happy to 

help with your shopping and 

generally be cheerily welcoming 

and useful.

Handmade Making by hand is at the ❤ of who we 

are and what we do - we make with love, passion and 

commitment. We work with natural, local and recycled 

materials, using skills, and tools, handed down through 

generations of craftsmen. For us making by hand is 

so much more than a way of making a living - it’s an 

instinct, a habit, a default setting. The items we make 

hold joy and creativity within them, a very human 

connection. 

Sustainable 

Here at the WC we constantly strive 

to be kinder to our beautiful planet. Making the right 

decisions is sometimes difficult, but we are proud to say 

that all our packaging is recycled or recyclable. If we use 

plastic, you can be sure it’s had a previous life (and we’re 

very happy to have it back to use again, and again, and 

again…. ). Wherever possible we use recycled materials 

and when we can’t, we research the best alternatives. 

Inspired It’s a circular thing…. I get inspired - I start to 

make something - the very act of making inspires me 

to try something else - I go down a rabbit hole, round 

a bend, somewhere unexpected - another idea - I get 

inspired all over again. Creative thinking is a muscle that 

grows stronger with exercise, so let’s all sit down and 

get creatively fit!!!
