<strong>Anthea</strong> Stilwell<br />
This exhibition is mainly Still Life with a bit of Life thrown in.<br />
I decided to concentrate on Still Life because I find interpreting it difficult<br />
and I wanted the challenge.<br />
I put a mixture of jugs, bottles, pots and sometimes fruit on a table. I<br />
didn’t arrange them in any special way, they just stayed there for months<br />
for me to look at and remember. I invented backgrounds to create a<br />
framework for the objects, which I painted mostly from memory, only<br />
returning to them when I felt stuck. The same objects occur in the work,<br />
often in different guises. Another challenge was to work in a palette of<br />
more muted tones, though a few images are more colourful.<br />
The life drawings were done in lockdown when I joined the Henley<br />
School of Art Online Life Drawing sessions.
