I paint, I write.<br />
The inspiration for my work comes from where I live in the Black Mountains on the<br />
border of Wales and England, its material culture and literature. That is, a pastoral<br />
and poetic informing of my painting, drawing and collaging.<br />
There is also a strong Oriental influence at my shoulder; my process particularly<br />
in my paintings begins with the ground/space; then the gesture/image; and finally<br />
writing/poetry. My intention is to create feeling, to invoke an emotion with my work.<br />
I hope to be seen as a Black Mountains artist---this is where I live; this is where the<br />
tap root goes in---so it may be said these creations could not be made anywhere else.<br />
As an artist, this is how I hold the world.
