Happy fall! I hope your school year has gotten off to a
smooth start and you’re feeling good about what you’ve
achieved so far this year. With the new fall season comes
a feeling of electricity in the air – partly due to cooler temps,
shorter days, and pumpkin spice – but also because of the NCMEA
Professional Development Conference! I cannot wait for more than
1,000 of the best people in the world to come together to connect,
share experiences and knowledge, and have fun!
The annual NCMEA Professional
Development Conference will take place
November 5 – 8 at the Benton Convention
Center in Winston-Salem. Your section
chairs have worked very hard to plan
programming that is relevant and useful,
and we hope you join us!
Some conference highlights this year
include:
• A conference theme, Redefining
Success, that inspires us to think
outside the box.
• Honors ensembles returning in person
at the Stevens Center!
• A keynote and two sessions by Peter
Boonshaft, who has been called, “one
of the most exciting and exhilarating
voices in music education today.”
• A performance by the Piedmont Wind
Symphony, with special guest Omar
Thomas, who is hailed as “one of the
more important composer/arrangers of his time.”
• A concert by the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band,
who have entertained, educated and inspired millions.
• T-shirt Day! We encourage you to purchase an NCMEA shirt
from our website and show your NCMEA spirit by wearing it
on Monday, November 7.

Attendees will be able to track CEU credits on the mobile app.
Pending approval from your school district or LEA, conference
attendance hours may be used for credit toward your license
renewal. Session length 50 min = 1 hr; 80 min = 1.5 hrs.

Make sure your NCMEA/NAfME membership is up-todate.
You’ll need to enter your expiration date at the time you register.
To check your membership status: visit the NAfME website
(www.nafme.org), log in, and go to Manage Profile. Select
Memberships on the left and you’ll see your paid-through date
listed. You can also renew your membership here if needed!
REGISTER!
If you haven’t already done so, register! Register online before
October 15 for the best price. If you procrastinate, register online
before you arrive; it will save you time standing in line.

conference schedule, speakers, exhibitors, hotels, and more. All of
this information will also be uploaded to the conference mobile
app to help you navigate the event on-site.
Remember to book your hotel room by early October
at the Winston-Salem Marriott or Embassy Suites in order to get
our group rate!
Pack your bags and get ready for an inspirational professional
development experience and celebration of music education!
Plan a minimum of one hour to visit the Exhibitor Expo
(you’ll probably need more!). You won’t want to pass up making
contacts with music publishers, instrument sellers and makers,
instrument repair experts, tour and travel operators, concert
apparel reps, college and university reps, and more. Don’t forget
to stop by the NCMEA booth to see what we’ve got going on!
