Whatdoesitmeantobeagentle,lovinganddecentperson?<br />
Everyoneonthisplanetwantstobelovedinsomecapacity:it’sacentralpartof<br />
whatmakesushuman.That’salsowhyourrelaonshipswithotherpeoplearean<br />
endlesslyfascinangsubject.It’sequalyhumantoberegularlyreconsideringhow<br />
feelaboutthepeoplewhomaertous,andhow wethinkthesamepeopleare<br />
lookingatusinturn.<br />
NeilSimonwroteLastoftheRedLoversinhisearlyfores,whileslmariedtohis<br />
firstwife,JoanBaim.WhileSimonwasattheheightofhistheatricalcareerinNew<br />
York,itwasalsoaperiodofchangeforhim inhisownmid-lifecrisis.TheplaypremieredonDecember28,1969-meredaysbeforethebeginningofanew<br />
decade,<br />
andtheanxietyofchangeiswhatthemainconflictinRedHotLoversisalabout.<br />
Tonight’splayisthestoryofBarneyCashman,amaninmanywayssimilarto<br />
Simon’sidealizedeverymanversionofhimself,asheleapsintotheunknownand<br />
riskshis23yearsofhappymariageforadoseofexcitementbyhavinganaffairnot<br />
once,nottwice,butthreemes.Thatideaofgoingintosomethingnew isthemain<br />
sourceofbothdramaandhumourintheshow.AstheNew YorkTimeswroteinits<br />
review oftheoriginalproduconmorethan50yearsago,“Thereisthedimensionof<br />
humanitytotheplay’shumoursothatyoucanloveitaswelaslaughatit.”<br />
Asanaudience,wetooareinaperiodofnew beginningsandcauousopmism for<br />
thefuture:forseveralmonthsnow we’vebeen(atlonglast)alowedtoreturntolive<br />
entertainment.Weasatheatre-goingcommunityareselingintothenew normal,<br />
andwe’retryingtorediscovertheloveandexcitementthatweoncehad.Inthat<br />
way,we’reonthesamequestasBarney-justwithlessinfidelity.<br />
Thisbringsusbacktothequesonfrom thebeginning,andonethatmulplecharacterstonightwilask:whatdoesitmeantobeagentle,lovinganddecentperson?<br />
Weasacastandcrew havebeenproposingourownanswerssincewestartedwork<br />
ontheplayfourmonthsago.<br />

studyatRoseBrufordColegeofTheatreandPerformanceinLondon,<br />
England.Thereshecompletedasix-monthactingintensivebeforegoing<br />
ontocompleteherMastersinColaborativeTheatreMaking.Recent<br />
creditsincludeTerain“Genesisters”(WeAlShineProductions),Pozzoin<br />
“WaitingforGodot”,(KnockoutTheatreCompany),LizEssendinein<br />
“PresentLaughter”(Knockout),LadyMacbethin“Macbeth”(ThePotluck<br />
Colective),Katherinein“TamingoftheShrew”(TheShakespearience<br />
Group),MissMarplein“AMurderisAnnounced“Knockout,andMaryin<br />
“Unity1918”(Knockout).Inherfreetime,Rebeccaenjoyswalkingher<br />
dogs,baking,workingout,andperfectingherheavymetalscreams.<br />

MIKEINGRAM -BARNEYCASHMAN<br />
ThisisMike’sfourthproductionwithBurlOakTheatreGroup.Hefirst<br />
startedactingalifetimeagowhenhelived“outEast”.Whenhemoved<br />
toOntario,hedidn’thavemanyopportunitiestoact… anddidn’tfor<br />
manyyears.ThenhefoundBurlOakTheatreGroupandfelinlovewith<br />
beingonthestagealoveragain. Hisreturntotheatresaw him playing<br />
theBigBadWolfinBurlOak’sproductionof“Shrek,TheMusical”.He<br />
wasthenluckyenoughtoplayGangster1in“TheDrowsyChaperone”,<br />
folowedquicklybythemostfunanactorhasonstage–thepantomime<br />
whereheplayedBraininBurlOakTheatreGroup’s“TheLitleMermaid”.<br />
HeissohappytobetakingpartinBurlOak’sfirstfulseasonbackatthe<br />
OakvileCentreforPerformingArts!hewantstothankhisfamily,wife,<br />
andkidsforsupportingandencouraginghisloveoftheatre.Lastly,he<br />
wantstothankeveryonewhocomestoseeourproductionsandsupports<br />

CATHYBURY-ASSISTANTSTAGEMANAGER<br />
Havingbeeninvolvedinmanyshowsinthepast10years,Cathyisthriled<br />
toonceagainreturntoaseasonoflivestageperformances.She<br />
appreciatesaltheelementsofproductioninvolvedinbringingashow to<br />
thestage.Theartfulstaging,skilfulcharacterdevelopment,and<br />
entertaininghumourhavecometogethertocreateashow ofprofessional<br />
caliber.WorkingasAssistantStageManagerprovidesanopportunityto<br />
view althiswithadiferentlens,viewingandfacilitatingfrom a<br />
