Starting a new chapter in life

When Claudia Robles was a high school student, she

never envisioned being vice president of student

government at a college or the social media coordinator

for the Human Services Club. Now, as an Elgin

Community College honors graduate transferring to her

dream school, she knows that it’s all possible.

“I was someone who didn’t care for school, with a very

low GPA and no extracurricular activities,” Robles said.

“I began to get my grades up and engage in clubs during

my senior year, but I still struggled to give it my all.”

At ECC, Robles said she made sure to start on the right

foot. Her grades improved, and she made the honor’s

list in her first year, moving up to the dean’s list in her

second year.

“Though my classes were remote, I learned about Student

Life through ECC’s website and wanted to become more

engaged on campus through clubs, so I reached out,” she

said. “I have learned many valuable leadership skills.”

Robles received her Associate in Arts in May 2022

and plans to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-

Champaign. ECC gave her the opportunity to mature and

learn, something she feels she would not have gotten

anywhere else.

“I thought that after high school, I wouldn’t have a future

as I was seen as a typical ‘lazy’ student. ECC has prepared

me for success, and I am ready to take on the next

chapter in my life.”
