BRIAN PILKINGTON<br />
England international<br />
winger Brian Pilkington<br />
missed just one match<br />
during <strong>Burnley</strong>’s 1959-60<br />
League Championship<br />
success. Initially with<br />
hometown Leyland<br />
Motors, he moved to<br />
<strong>Burnley</strong> in April 1951<br />
and was ever-present in<br />
1957-58, netting 67 goals<br />
in 300 League games<br />
prior to joining Bolton<br />
Wanderers for £25,000<br />
in March 1961. He joined<br />
Bury in February 1964<br />
and moved to Barrow in<br />
February 1965, helping<br />
them to win promotion<br />
in 1966-67. Later with<br />
Chorley, he returned<br />
to Leyland Motors and<br />
became their manager.<br />
He went into the housing<br />
industry and ran an estate<br />
agent business in his<br />
native Leyland. He died in<br />
February 2020.<br />

England international<br />
winger John Connelly was<br />
top scorer in <strong>Burnley</strong>’s<br />
1959-60 League<br />
Championship triumph.<br />
Starting with hometown<br />
St Helens, he joined<br />
<strong>Burnley</strong> in November<br />
1956 and also starred<br />
as they were FA Cup<br />
and League Cup semifinalists<br />
in 1960-61, then<br />
FA Cup finalists in 1962.<br />
He netted 86 goals in<br />
215 League games prior<br />
to joining Manchester<br />
<strong>United</strong> for £60,000 in<br />
April 1964. Ever-present<br />
in their 1964-65 League<br />
Championship success,<br />
he moved to Blackburn<br />
Rovers in September<br />
1966 and was leading<br />
marksman in 1966-67,<br />
then played for Bury. He<br />
later ran a fish and chip<br />
in Brierfield and died in<br />
October 2012.<br />
RAY POINTER<br />
England international<br />
centre-forward Ray<br />
Pointer was ever-present<br />
in <strong>Burnley</strong>’s 1959-60<br />
League Championship<br />
success. Previously with<br />
Cramlington Welfare and<br />
Dudley Welfare, he joined<br />
<strong>Burnley</strong> in August 1957<br />
and was twice leading<br />
scorer, starring as the<br />
Clarets were FA Cup<br />
and League Cup semifinalists<br />
in 1960-61. He<br />
was an FA Cup finalist<br />
in 1962 and netted 118<br />
goals in 223 League<br />
games before joining<br />
Bury in August 1965,<br />
then moved via Coventry<br />
City to Portsmouth in<br />
January 1967. Later youth<br />
team coach at Blackpool,<br />
<strong>Burnley</strong> and Bury, he ran a<br />
sandwich bar, then a subdepot<br />
for home shopping<br />
giant Grattan. He died in<br />
January 2016.
