2022

About me

Hi! I’m Mary Franz Salazar, a graduate of Technological University of the Philippines Manila

Who takes Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Advertising. From a young age, I was fascinated by the

illustrations contained in my elementary school books which is why my passion for arts continues. As I

step from high school to senior high school, poster making, lyre band, and playing piano is my hobby.

Until entered college, I never give up my love for art and take an art course.Having excelled

academically, I now explore more of my potential by competing as an artist in music, painting, and film

competitions.

The first traditional painting competition I joined was in MACC 2018 where ended up as a finalist in the

work “Lullaby for Emmanuel”. Then I transition into digital painting and participated in contests such

Shell National Students Art Competition from 2020 to 2021. In 2020 I become a finalist in the work

"Fixing Each Other Broken Pieces" and won the first medal as 2nd place in 2021 in piece " Pagtanggap

Mo Sa Aking Pagkukulang". This year, I also tried in the National Commission for Culture and the Arts

ASEAN-Philippines Digital Art Contest 2022 and won again as 2nd place with the work "Together, We

Move Forward".

Filmmaking, specifically being Director, is also one of my passion and dream which is why I becomes

part of some national film festivals. In 2019, I produced and directed my very first short film project

entitled "Toto, Tawag Ka Ng Ate Mo" which was an official entry & finalist in Sine Kabataan 3 held by

the Film Development Council of the Philippines. It was screened in the Philippine cinema along with

Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino 3. In the same year, I have been awarded 2nd place in NCCA’s Wisik Film

Competition for a film entitled “Obra”. But then the pandemic begins in early 2020, locking up the

people and forced to work from home. I have no choice but to still cope and keep on pursuing Filipino

films. By 2021 I returned to the film industry by becoming a producer, illustrator, and animator in the

animation film "Reconnected" entry of Sine Kabataan 4 of the Film Development Council of the

Philippines. By the year 2022, I directed and produced my own short film again at the CineIskool Film

Lab and Festival in the film documentary "A Million Worth Degree“. I won "Best Director“ at the said

film festival and “Most Impactful Film” at Cinegoma Film Festival.

honor

Aside from the competition I also work as a freelancer, photographer at

Celestine, graphic designer at Dan Tea & Shell Creative Agency, intern

& illustrator at Tuldok Animation Studio, and director, producer,

writer, & cinematographer at Room 113 Productions. With

and pride, I graduated with Magna Cum Laude from my

university. Now, I still desires new discoveries and

opportunities to develop my skills with love for the arts.

Personal works

01 Vector Portrait

A digital plate from Computer 1-Digital

Graphic Workshop subjects were we asked

to create a personal vector portrait.

Including every element that personally use

to demonstrate our multimedia skills (pen

display for digital illustrations, camera for

photography, computer for graphic designs,

piano for music leisure, and director's

clapper for filmmaking). Adobe Illustrator

was used to creating this design.

02 Cleaning up, motivate us

During the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the students switched

from face-to-face to online classes. As an artist, it is difficult to

create traditional art with no materials available. But, because

our class is more computer media-related, I began to learn how

to create a digital illustration. This is how I depicted my

situation during the pandemic, as illustrated above. I have

proven and overcome many problems in the past challenges of

my life's career. Whether the case is small or large, the path we

will take will never end. There are trials that will sharpen our

adaptability and expose our flaws. But, no matter how big the

problem is, we can always do something by cleaning it up. Even

if it is a pandemic, we can solve the problem as we would in

normal times.

03 FIXING EACH OTHER BROKEN Pieces

This is my first time participating in the Shell National Students Art

Competition in the Digital Art Category and being selected as a finalist. The

concept for this digital painting is based on the theme "Hope in Our Art." The

description of this art is my take on the relationship we had behind our backs

with the people. People, from where I stand, are like a difficult jigsaw puzzle.

We may not be perfect people. We could be shattered glass that can't be

fixed. We, individuals, may find it difficult to stand or face conflicts on our

own. However, if everyone worked together to build and put together a

puzzle for one another. Our future together may soar and prosper.

04 Pagtanggap mo sa Aking pagkukulang

(accepting my imperfection)

My second and final try at the Shell National Student Art Competition in the Digital Art

Category resulted in a second-place finish. This digital painting's inspiration came from the

"Juan Art Nation" theme. This piece's significance is derived from my personal experience. I

did not have a mother to guide me as I was growing up. She couldn't look after me because of

her condition, which finally caused her death. My major regret at the time we were together

was that I was unable to give her the love she deserved while she was still living. Although I'm

sad to see her go, I think there are good reasons behind it. Our love is boundless; acceptance is

the only challenge. If we can learn to forgive ourselves for our imperfections, we can

experience joy. Every one of us has flaws. Every decision we make in life has an effect on other

people. My choice to embrace my mother's flaws has influenced how I got to where I am

today. Throughout the pandemic, there are many hurdles and difficulties to overcome. We can

build a wonderful tomorrow out of gratitude and keep trying to correct the remaining flaws if

we can accept one another.

05 Together, we

move forward

This piece won 2 nd place in ASEAN-

Philippines Digital Art Contest 2022.

This idea comes from the

"Addressing Challenges Together"

theme. Today we face a lot of crisis

that leads to the downfall of our

economy because of current

problems such as a pandemic,

global warming, industry crisis,

unemployment, trade dispute, and

other national conflicts. If we are on

our own, the challenges are difficult

to overcome. However, life might

be simpler if we have a companion

at our side. Working together helps

us feel better about the things we

can't accomplish on our own. Being

part of the ASEAN family, we will

face the challenges of life together

without leaving each other,

spreading the spirit of the

community and solving them

through cooperation. As we enter a

new phase of our lives, let us not

forget to include our siblings,

family, and friends. In this way,

nothing is possible, and as we all

MOVE FORWARD TOGETHER, we

may have a bright future as one

family (ASEAN).

BOOK DESIGNS

06 Princess in disguise

My first professional illustration

commissioned work was for the children's

book "Princess in Disguise," which Ms.

Lambino, a public elementary teacher,

projects for her master's thesis. Through

stunning visuals, this book’s purpose will aid

elementary pupils in learning science more

effectively and creatively.

“Princess in Disguise” was a story about a

faraway jungle, there was a kingdom called

Magneta. This was ruled by King Ula, a lion,

with his daughter Princess Maija. The princess

loves to collect any type of beautiful rocks

and she always wanted to go outside to seek

other gems. Then one night, Princess Maija

decided to go out of their castle. In making

sure that no one will recognize her, she wears

a long black hood and dresses like a servant

to reach her goal.

07 I like eggs

( 卵 がすきです)

“ 卵 がすきです ( Tamago ga sukidesu )”

or “I Like Eggs” in English translation is a

comic book project I made for my Foreign

Language subject. This project trained us

on how to layout a comic book in the

Japanese way of reading. The story

revolves around a customer who orders

an egg sandwich in a Japanese fast-food

restaurant.

BOOK DESIGNS

08 Bernardo carpio

I began my training with Tuldok Animation

Studios in the year 2021. We were

assigned a project at work to create

digitally illustrated "comics" in

collaboration with NCCA and CCP.

"Bernardo Carpio" a Filipino folklore comic

book written by Mrs. Rianne Hill Soriano,

is the name of the project we've been

working on. It deals with a prisoner who

has spent his entire life in a cave below

and meets a salamangkera (sorcerer)

whose goal is to kill him. I was the

company's primary book illustrator. I have

been given the specific responsibility of

creating the backgrounds for the comic

book's panels and cover pages. I have

learned a great deal about the local comic

book industry through my training on this

project, and I have also gained the

opportunity to develop my digital talents.

COPY WRITING

09 Miss Universe

Brand: Miss Universe Philippines

Project: Creative Poster

Work: Academic Related

Class Subject: Graphic Design Workshop 1

I created this poster for the Miss Universe

Philippines local beauty competition as part

of the Graphic Design Workshop subject. The

creative copywriting ideation process

employed in this poster ad is centered on the

"ambush" technique that jars the senses. A

crisis in Philippine education is affecting the

effectiveness of instruction and the level of

knowledge gained by students. In aside from

promoting the beauty pageant, this poster

also aimed to promote awareness of

education in the Philippines, a crucial issue

that demands attention. The Philippines is

among the nations with the lowest reading

comprehension, therefore our nation lags

behind in the field of education, according to

the 2018 Program for the International

Student Assessment (PISA). Miss Universe

Philippines is a competition where intellect is

valued more highly than only physical

attractiveness. The goal of this competition is

to encourage everyone to share great

qualities. This is a fascinating method to

broaden everyone's perspective and support

the confidence of women.

ALL WOMEN DESERVE TO WEAR A

CROWN, BUT SOMEONE IS NOT

CONFIDENT.

The Philippines scored the lowest in

reading comprehension in the 2018

Programme for the International

Student Assessment (PISA). Help

them to be confidently beautiful.

Proper Education for young Filipinas.

An academic project with the main goal

of developing mock-up packaging, poster

ads, and 3d kiosks designs for the

completion of Computer 3-3D & Digital

Effects subject. An idea for a new Selecta

can drink with the taste "Cornetto Mango

Tango." The mango fruit is well-known in

the Philippines, and it is a great market to

make some kind of product where

Filipinos had a lot of resources.

Considering that the Philippine mango

season runs from March to June. a

suggestion to draw customers in the first

week of March by offering incentives.

This summer is a fantastic time to

introduce fresh ideas to the masses. I

came up with the idea to give Selecta

Cornetto a twist and offer some new

sweet beverages after tasting the novel

experience, the fresh new season, and

the unique appearance that Selecta

Cornetto had never had before. As

implied by the slogan, "Have a Sweet

Tender Taste," Cornetto is always sweet

in its own special way. I want to

demonstrate to the community how

versatile Cornetto is, offering more than

simply sweet ice cream to suit varied

palates.

Project: Branding Design, Instructional Material, Online

Work: Academic Related

Class Subject: Thesis Writing

One of the activities that help to preserve the Ilocano

weaving legacy is the “Basic Course on Inabel Weaving”.

The goal of this free short course workshop is to impart

the Ilocano weaving tradition to participants. In

conjunction with Katutubo Exchange Philippines and

Gawad Sa Manlilikha Ng Bayan, Dr. Edwin Antonio of

the National Commission for Culture and the Arts

produced this short course in 2012. With our idea to

push the workshop's slogan, "Pamanang Pang-Habing

Buhay," this project would produce a visual narrative

and encourage the young audience to attend the

workshop in a creative way. Applying this might help

with efforts to preserve the value of Philippine weaving

culture and the issue of the declining number of young

weavers.

actually see and touch the subject. For this reason, I propose

setting up an interactive activity exhibit called an Inabel

Weaving Booth where teachers and students may learn the

basic fundamentals of weaving. It features five stations that

demonstrate fundamental weaving techniques in a creative

and enjoyable manner. The "Abel Ni Isabel" Instructional

Material Book of Basic Course in Inabel Weaving is also

available on bookshelves. The booth also has printed

EXPERIMENTAL FILM

22 Silver Medal

(Pilak Na Medalya)

Subject: Advertising Art Direction

Job: Screenplay Writer, 3d Animator, &

Video Compositor

The medal is viewed by the majority as a

symbol of success and victory worn by the

person who achieves. Receiving this honor is

wonderful, and sharing our accomplishments

with others in the hopes of inspiring them is

also delightful. It's good to have compliments,

and it motivates us to work more. By doing

so, we demonstrate to ourselves that we are

capable of doing things that others are unable

to. The evidence that adorns us with honor is

academic brilliance, greatness in talent, and

competence in living a fulfilling life. I can say

that during the twenty-one years and ten

months that I have been alive, I have marched

onto the stage to don the medal multiple

times.

Every time winning an award, it seems like

earning a unique piece of gold. There is

generally a title that is appropriate in terms of

what or who is leading and not, so not every

medal declares that we are the finest of all. In

reality, bronze, silver, and gold are frequently

used. However, there have been instances in

our life when we haven't been thrilled to

celebrate winning the gold medal despite

doing so.

In the metaphorical short film I'll create, I

want to show my experiences as a child,

student, artist, and person in general. The

story of my delight, grief, hatred, fear, and

wrath will be shared with each medal I earn.

My desire to be a model child for my parents

is one of the reasons I have such a strong

desire for the medal. that even I am being

compared to silver that will never turn into

gold, they can still be happy to have me as a

treasure.
