Midfielder Mick Gooding<br />
was ever-present for<br />

1986-87. Starting with<br />
Bishop Auckland, he<br />
joined <strong>Rotherham</strong> in July<br />
1979, starring in their<br />
1980-81 Third Division<br />
title triumph. He joined<br />
Chesterfield in December<br />
1982 but returned to<br />
<strong>Rotherham</strong> nine months<br />
later and netted 42 goals<br />
in 258 League games<br />
overall before joining<br />
Peterborough <strong>United</strong> in<br />
August 1987. Moving to<br />
Wolves in September<br />
1988, he helped win<br />
the Third Division title<br />
and joined Reading in<br />
December 1989. Starring<br />
as they won the Second<br />
Division title in 1993-94,<br />
he became joint playermanager,<br />
then had a spell<br />
at Southend and was<br />
Walsall’s youth coach.<br />

Right-back Ally Pickering<br />
helped <strong>Rotherham</strong> <strong>United</strong><br />
win promotion in 1991-<br />
92. Initially with Buxton,<br />
he joined <strong>Rotherham</strong><br />
for a then club record<br />
£16,500 in February 1990.<br />
He scored twice in 88<br />
League games while at<br />
Millmoor before moving to<br />
Coventry City for £80,000<br />
in October 1993 and<br />
appeared regularly in the<br />
Premier League. Sold to<br />
Stoke City for £280,000<br />
in August 1996, he was<br />
ever-present in 1997-98<br />
and joined Burnley in<br />
December 1998. He then<br />
played for Altrincham,<br />
Cambridge <strong>United</strong>,<br />
Chester City, Hyde<br />
<strong>United</strong>, Gainsborough<br />
Trinity and Mossley. Later<br />
managing Mossley, he<br />
then had spells in charge<br />
of Woodley Sports and<br />
New Mills.<br />

joined Dorchester Town<br />
in August 1994 and<br />
moved to <strong>Rotherham</strong> for<br />
£30,000 in June 1995.<br />
He helped them qualify<br />
for the Third Division<br />
play-offs in 1998-99, then<br />
win promotion in two<br />
consecutive seasons.<br />
Scoring 23 goals in 264<br />
League games for the<br />
Millers, he joined Torquay<br />
<strong>United</strong> initially on loan in<br />
March 2005. He later had<br />
spells at Newport County,<br />
Launceston, Truro City,<br />
Bodmin Town and<br />
returned to Launceston<br />
as player-manager, since<br />
working for a recruitment<br />
agency back in Plymouth.<br />
