ROAD TO QUEST 2023
TRUE ADVENTURE Comes To You
The other day, we wandered into one of the
importers offices - and what was on his
desk?
A magazine from the 90’s. True story!
And we spent a good while chatting about
the bike industry and changes since way
back before the internet was a thing.
Irreplaceable. Timeless. It’s not just about
selling stuff.
It’s recorded, printed South African
motorcycle history that you’ll never find or
see on the internet.
The conversation starts with “ I wonder
what happened to...”
man? World class.
Two South Africans in the teams that
dominated Bold’Or - Steven Odendaal and
team won the 100th Bol D’Or. Sheridan
Morias’s team made it a South African
one-two.
Cam Petersen, broke the record at the
Barber Track in Moto America. He and
Mathew Scholtz are really flying the flag
over there.
Clint Sellar goes off to the Frohburg road
race and wins two of the races...
Team SA put up such a good fight at the
Motocross Of Nations - more on that in
next months edition of Dirt And Trail.
We can’t tell you how many places we go
to - and centrespreads adorn the kids walls
and garage lockers and doors.
True story. You can never duplicate that
with your cell phone or PC.
Anyway.
So many cool things are happening in
the world of motorcycling where South
Africans compete.
Our GS Trophy team has made it a 1, 2 for
SA, sure, perhaps a bit of a state secret to
anyone outside the BMW circle, but mighty
impressive nonetheless - and the first
stand alone competition for the girls has
been won by our ladies...
Then. Binder. Just flippen wow! Hows that
Ruche Moodley is making his way steadily
up the Rookies cup ladder - watch this kid!
At home, Brett Swanepoel is E2 and overall
National Enduro champ, Travis Teasdale
took the extreme title, Dylan Jones is the
E1 champ.
Maddy Green, what can we say? Then
there’s a certain Wade Young...
And we have probably missed some of the
talent and to you - sorry, we’ll go into more
detail for 2022 in future issues.
For such a small riding country we have
some massive talent!
We have carried over a lot of content over to
our next issue. See you next month.
2023 Husqvarna FS 450 Motard
The 2023 Husqvarna FS 450 arrives with significant
changes from last year’s racer.
In addition to new bodywork, the 2023 Husqvarna FS
450 gets a new frame. The hydro-formed frame is still
made of chromoly steel. The ’23 gets new geometry
designed to reduce squat on acceleration. The subframe
is a new aluminum-polyamide hybrid, which replaces the
carbon-fiber/polyamide subframe used for years, the
new subframe is more durable and has specific rigidity
properties that enhance the main frame.
The basic SOHC engine architecture remains, but
Husqvarna claims “class-leading performance and low
weight” from the mill. The exact engine placement has
also changed in the new frame.
The quickshifter gets a new sensor. According to the
Husky, the change is intended to improve upshifts—
more acceleration, again.
A new switch, mounted on the left of the ProTaper
handlebar, controls traction control, launch control,
and the quickshifter setting.
The 48mm fork is new, with a focus on increasing the
progressivity of the damping to prevent bottoming. The
air function remains, supplanting a spring. The shock
now requires no tools for damping adjustments, and the
main piston is updated.
CABERG DRIFT EVO CARBON HELMETS –
We bought one. We ride a lot with it. It’s a great lid!
DRIFT EVO joins the well-known Drift model raising even
more standards to satisfy the most demanding sporty
riders. The shell is produced in 2 sizes, (the smaller shell
for sizes from XS to M, and the bigger shell from size L to
XXL). That, together with an innovative inner lining, offer
a good balance between comfort and fit. The rear spoiler
gives a sporty and aggressive look and enhances the
aerodynamics at higher speed by reducing turbulence.
The inner lining and the cheek pads have been designed
to offer a snug fit and it is possible to change and install
different sized pads and linings to get a custom-correct fit.
The helmet has a double D-ring for the retention system
and is ready to install most of the communication systems
available on the market. Some other notable features
include a Carbon shell in 2 sizes so small heads and necks
don’t have to support an extra-large shell with excessive
padding. A clear visor and internal sun visor with a quick
release visor system, great internal air-circulation. For
Saffers Abroad: Moto America’s Petersen Breaks Barber Track Record.
To say that Cameron Petersen likes Barber Motorsports Park would be a gross
understatement. Petersen, who won his first career MotoAmerica Medallia Superbike
race at the track a year ago in a rainstorm, arrives in Alabama every year brimming with
confidence. He recently set a new lap record of the 2.380-mile circuit.
Fresh N Lean Progressive Yamaha Racing’s Petersen was fast from the get-go, breaking
the lap record in Free Practice 1 this morning before bettering that effort in Q1 with his
1:22.323 lap on his 18th go-around. The lap put him .595 of a second ahead of Westby
Racing’s and fellow SA rider Mathew Scholtz.
When reminded that his first lap record didn’t last long he replied: “As long as I keep
breaking it, I’m happy with that, honestly, I’m pretty damn surprised by that. Obviously, the
track was a little bit more greasy this afternoon, but this bike is working so good. It’s crazy.
I can’t take all the credit. The bike isn’t doing anything wrong and it’s allowing me to push
to that level. I’m having fun.”
More firms sign up to scheme that aims to banish
electric bike range anxiety:
The Swappable Batteries Motorcycle Consortium founded in
September 2021 by KTM, Honda, Piaggio and Yamaha, has
revealed that it now has 21 companies taking part.
The idea is to speed-up deployment of swappable battery
systems around the world, so that electric bike riders can
simply remove a flat battery and replace it with a fully charged
one rather than waiting around while their machine powers up.
Key to it all is getting firms to adopt a common standard for
batteries.
Standardization should cut costs, as charging docking stations
would work across multiple manufacturers and make electric
bikes a more attractive proposition for riders.
Now if we could just sort out Eskom to do some charging…
Moto 2 Engine supplier gunning for more:
Moto2 engine suppliers, Triumph, are gunning for higher top
speeds, more overtaking and greater excitement from 2023
– with the firm announcing significant upgrades to their circa
140bhp, 765cc racing triple. The factory took over from Honda
as the official engine supplier in 2019 and have since signed a
three-year contract extension.
“There was a lot of discussion around, ‘if we do the extension
how do we keep the series interesting?’” Chief Product Officer
Steve Sargent told MCN. “So we said: ‘Well, if we’re going
to do this, what do we do in terms of keeping things moving
forward?’
“I don’t think it’s any secret that when Honda were supplying
engines they kept the [same spec] the whole way through, so
it’s a way of creating interest – not just for people watching but
also for people involved to be able to say: ‘Hang on, we’ve got
something a little bit fresh here.’ It keeps the interest going.”
“There is more straightline punch,” Sargent continued. “We’ve
already changed the gear ratios and the extra rpm. Next
season we’ll be able to deliver the power.
“Through those two [upgrades] , I think you’ll be able to start
to see a lot more overtaking towards the end of some of the
longer straights.”
Ducati Diavel goes V4:
The new Diavel becomes V4
It adopts the V4 Granturismo engine.13 kg lighter
Ducati has unveiled the new Diavel V4.
1,158 cc V4, with its 168 hp and 12.8 kgm of torque,Muscular, gritty,
with broad “shoulders” and proudly visible four-exits exhaust that
immediately declares the sophisticated engine architecture. “The
Diavel V4 draws inspiration from muscle cars, from the aesthetics of
superheroes and reproduces the image of an athlete ready to sprint to
the starting blocks, with all the masses concentrated on the front and
an agile, streamlined tail.”
The signature front and rear light clusters and turn signals, obviously
full-LED, also contribute to Diavel V4’s unmistakable appearance. The
rear light cluster consists of a matrix of punctiform LEDs positioned
under the tail, also with an unmistakably Ducati optical signature.
Another distinctive element of the Diavel V4 is the massive 240/45 rear
tyre. The wheels are a five-spoke alloy with a profile embellished with
machined surfaces and are one of the most refined elements of the
Diavel V4’s aesthetics.
Electronics
A comprehensive electronic package.. The Diavel V4 offers three Power
Modes and four Riding Modes: Sport, Touring, Urban and the new Wet,
designed for low-grip surfaces. The Riding Modes allow the rider to
adapt the engine delivery and the intervention of the riding aid systems
(Ducati Traction Control in Cornering version, ABS Cornering and Ducati
Wheelie Control) to the rider’s situation and preferences.
Cruise Control makes highway transfers more relaxed, while Launch
Control provides scorching starts. Ducati Quick Shift up/down.
The rider can manage all the electronic systems through backlit controls
on the handlebars and the new 5-inch color TFT dashboard, which also
offers Bluetooth connectivity to pair the smartphone and use it for calls,
text messages and music, or use the Turn-by-turn navigation system
(available as an accessory) via the Ducati Link App.
The four-cylinder 999cc engine makes 209hp (156 kW) and peak torque
at 83 lbs•ft (113 Nm), and the whole machine tips the scales at 423 lbs
ready-to-ride, thanks to its carbon wings and wheels.
Triumph renames their bikes:
2023 Triumph Scrambler 900
Say farewell to the Triumph Street Scrambler and
welcome the 2023 Triumph Scrambler 900 to the fold.
The motorcycle is unchanged, save new colours for ’23.
Jet Black returns, joined by Matt Khaki and Carnival Red
& Jet Black paint jobs.
Despite the name, it remains primarily a street
motorcycle. However, should it be called in for some
light-duty dirty action, the 19-/17-inch wheel combo
comes in handy. Keep in mind that the wire-spoke wheels
are shod with Metzeler Tourance tyres, which prefer
tarmac to dirt.
2023 Triumph Speed Twin 900
The Triumph Street Twin is no more. However, don’t
despair—it has been replaced by the 2023 Triumph Speed
Twin 900. As it turns out, Triumph is simply renaming the
Street Twin. The new Triumph Speed Twin serves as the
little brother to the Speed Twin 1200, which is returning
for 2023.
At WeSellParts.co.za we have a passion for motorcycling. We have worked tirelessly to source the best brands available at competitive market pricing. Our team of experts is
available to provide advice on the best products for you.

Dream Machine
Another one of a kind R9T by Cytech.
Donovan Muller of Cytech says: “The bike came to us as a pre-made custom R9T
that somebody had already converted before and the client then brought it to us and
asked if we could build him his ultimate dream bike. After a quick chat and asking
the client what we wanted he said he wasn’t too sure, other than that he wanted a
custom Cafe Racer R9T. So we got to work and scoured the internet to see what
was available and what was getting built out there. After finding out a little bit more
about what style and look the client was trying to achieve, his response was that he
liked black and carbon fibre. Other than that we had carte blanche. We put together
some ideas based on that, along with a long list of components and custom work
and presented it to the client and asked what kind of budget he had in mind. His
response was that there was no limit on the budget. He liked everything that we had
chosen and designed and gave us the go ahead to build the bike.”

This bike was a close collaboration with the Russell
Myers, the owner of the bike in as far as he had a vision
for his dream bike. With the main instruction that the
bike was to be black and a carbon fibre Cafe Racer,
the rest was up to Donovan and his team at Cytech to
accurately understand and correctly interpret and then
build Russell’s Carbon Dream Machine. Needless this
takes a special talent on the builders behalf and often a
lot of builders to get it wrong, hence the bike arrived at
Cytech having already been worked on by somebody else
previously. Oh! The other instruction was that it had to
be fast, comfortable, rideable and be able to hold its own
around a track. So even though they were waiting for all
the custom parts to arrive from around the world they got
to work by having the engine management software very
significantly upgraded. The DNA air filter was replaced
and suspension was tweaked.
Cytech started sending orders through to various
suppliers all over the world like Italy, Germany and the UK
and got cracking as soon as everything arrived. Parts like
mirrors, levers, adjustable rear sets and controls are by
Rizoma with a Koso Headlight by Cafe 4 Racer. The full
carbon fibre faring was sourced from Powerbronze in the
UK.
Feeling lucky?
Stand a chance to
win 1 of 3
motorcycles
plus other amazing prizes!
When they got close to finishing the bike, they stood back
and asked themselves, “What else can we do to make
the bike just that little bit extra special and absolutely
unique?” You might notice that one of the biggest items
which makes it completely next level is the custom Italian
Jonich wheels. These wheels are something quite special,
aluminium overlaid with carbon fibre, fitted with thicker
and fewer spokes which gives them a completely unique
look. Those were then shod with some Michelin Rubber
and wave discs from Wunderlich in Germany.
Cytech then called on local outfit, Custom Creations paint
shop for some paintwork by clear glossing over the carbon
fibre because some of them were supplied as matte. Then
it was time to inlay the fuel tank with carbon fibre along
with a custom design in the fuel tank on top of that.
Buy any MICHELIN motorcycle tyre or
a Bib-Mousse and use the QR code to
enter.
Or visit www.myoffers.michelin.co.za & choose “Win a Bike Competition”.
Ts&Cs apply.

Then the last big job they did was build a custom sub-frame and a
handmade custom leather seat. It took three attempts to achieve
the perfect look and feel for what they were after. A tail tidy and LED
lights from LeMotographe in France (who also supplied the custom
handmade BMW fuel tank badges and billet custom fuel cap) rounded
things off.
They then fitted a very unique exhaust system from the Czech
Republic by an outfit called Cafe 4 Racer. It’s different in that they
only hand built five of these particular exhaust systems and the
quality and sound really does speak for itself - and when you hear the
bike fire up… It makes your knees quite weak.
Donovan says, “ To ultimately get the machine we produced we
wanted to build a bike where not one single component stood out
on its own, our idea was to get all the really special components to
come together as a whole to then look like a factory built Cafe Racer
of international quality and standard… which we believe we have
achieved. And just by the responses we have had to the bike we are
feeling really good about I and we have already started work on the
next project.”
We definitely approve, everywhere you look on this bike there is
something that catches your attention and to be honest, you stare
in amazement. Stand back and take it all in. Cytech is definitely a
company that prides itself on matching the best in the world for
quality and innovation when it comes to their builds and you can see
they take a special price in the workmanship and product they deliver.
It is clean and sleek, dark and menacing and just oozes attitude.
We contemplated begging for a ride but with a total build cost
somewhere north of R600k, so we decided to err on the side of
caution and let Don ride the bike for the photo shoot.
If you are looking for a very unique custom BMW then look no further
than Cytech. They also do full back to original restorations as well.
Racing Roundup
By Donovan Fourie.
Moto GP:
Why are the mighty Japanese falling?
You might’ve noticed that the Land of the Rising Sun isn’t shining too
well in MotoGP. Worse still, Suzuki is folding its effort completely,
while poor Quartararo sees his Championship Defence crumbling at
the heel of a red bike with funny dinosaur spikes on its tail.
All seems odd given the might of the Japanese corporations, their
colossal network of factories spanning the world and the breadth of
their knowledge pool.
For example:
Honda is valued at roughly $100 billion, whereas the comparative shed
that is Aprilia rocks up with just $500 million in loose change.
Why, then, is the RSGP of Aleix Espargaro destroying the famous
RC213V of Honda?
Why is Suzuki folding its MotoGP project when it pocketed $1.2 billion
last year, more than double Aprilia’s total worth?
The thing about these major corporations is that they do not look
at things in a “we can afford it” way. They look at the return on
investment. When we get down to those numbers, MotoGP starts
making less sense to them.
How many motorcycles do you think Honda makes in Japan? The
answer is – very few. The big bikes, like the Fireblade and the Africa
Twin, keep their production lines running in their hometown while the
rest are made everywhere – India, China, Indonesia, Brazil, Nigeria, etc.
And most of these models are scooters or small commuter-type bikes
that inherit very little of their DNA from MotoGP. Most of them, in fact,
inherit their DNA from the past, using motors like the 100cc Super
Cub that’s been around since 1958. And the buyers honestly do not
have a sodding clue who Pecco Bagnaia, Fabio Quartararo or Marc
Marquez is. Some might know the name Valentino Rossi but in no
detail whatsoever.
Does it make sense for the Japanese to spend a fortune racing in a
series that will boost 2% of their model line-up?

The Europeans have a different outlook. They sell
mostly to western markets, and a big chunk of
those sales are sports bikes where the technology
and coverage of MotoGP directly relate to their
road models. Ducati and Aprilia have built the
entire foundation for their brands on racing
success, while KTM lives by the motto: “Ready to
Race”.
It therefore, makes sense that a greater portion of
the marketing budget is directed towards MotoGP.
Perhaps even a greater chunk of cash than the
Japanese are prepared to commit.
Maybe MotoGP isn’t a group of plucky little
European manufacturers taking on the might of
the Japanese.
Perhaps the Japanese are the underdogs.
On to other things racing:
Ruche Moodley is gaining traction in Red Bull Rookies Cup.
The mild-mannered 15-year-old from Port Elizabeth is the
son of former South African and UAE Superbike champion
Arushan Moodley. He began riding motorcycles on a PW50
when he was five and soon moved on to motocross and
then circuit racing. This year, he has been campaigning in
the Red Bull Rookies Cup, the MotoGP support class that
has such famous alumni as Pedro Acosta, Miguel Oliveira
and, of course, Brad Binder. Being his first year, he has
been adapting to the new machine and new tracks, but has
steadily been increasing his speed and finished the last
two races in his best position of tenth.
Is it KTM or is it Remy?
There’s been much chitter and chatter around the
displacement of 2021 Moto2 Champion Remy
Gardner from the MotoGP grid after just one year
in the class. The Australian son of the 1988 500cc
World Champion, Wayne Gardner, signed up for
the Tech3 MotoGP team after a successful Moto2
campaign with KTM only to be told two-thirds of
the way through his first season that there is no
spot for him in the premier class in 2023.
Gardner’s outspoken reaction pointed most of
the blame on KTM, accusing them of calling him
“unprofessional” and that he was “hurt” at being
given the stick after just one year.
Naturally, Gardner’s words caused some outrage
towards KTM, from both fans and media alike.
Remy, a world champion, spends one year on an
uncompetitive bike in an uncompetitive team, and
he’s unprofessional? It later apparently transpired
that the ire that fuelled KTM’s “unprofessional”
comment was Remy’s negative remarks about the
team and the bike. Of course, this sparked further
outrage, and KTM was accused of being unable to
handle criticism from its riders.
This all sounds quite appalling and not at all
like KTM, which has traditionally maintained a
respectful relationship with its riders, even when
they criticise the bike and the teams. Letting
Johann Zarco leave the team early in 2019 comes
to mind.
KTM’s company culture is known for the team
effort and spirit within the team, not just in
MotoGP but the whole company. People who
do not meet this spirit usually don’t last long.
That’s why we see people like Brad Binder,
who is the epitome of loyalty, friendliness and
encouragement, offered four-year deals when
similarly paced riders are not.
This is strictly an estimate, using what may pass
in my head for logic, but I’m guessing it was Remy
as a person who didn’t make the cut within the
team. This estimate is spurred on by KTM’s hiring
of Augusto Fernandez from the Moto2 ranks to
replace Gardner. Augusto is a good rider but does
not appear to hold a candle to the pace of Remy,
yet he’s there, and Remy is not.
These estimates received further confirmation
when KTM flatly denied calling Gardner
unprofessional.
Binder doing good:
Brad Binder narrowly missed a podium at Aragon and claimed his first
front row start in the rain at Motegi, followed by a glorious second place
finish behind a dominant win by Jack Miller.
There are two theories behind why KTM and Binder have suddenly seen
a boost in qualifying and race finishes. One is the team finding something
significant at the Misano test before Aragon that has given them
huge improvements, especially in qualifying, and another is that both
Aragon and Motegi are low-grip circuits. KTM’s biggest problem seems
to be too much grip, especially in the rear. That statement may seem
like an oxymoron – surely the teams are looking for grip; how could
there be such a thing as too much?
But it happens. Especially when that rear Michelin digs in too much and
overrides the front tyre, causing the bike to go wide. A low-grip track
means they have something closer to “normal” traction where the other
bikes are spinning up and having difficulty. Which of these possibilities
is a reality has probably been answered as you are reading this, depending
on where the KTMs finished in Thailand and Australia that have not
yet happened at the time of writing this.
As you peruse the results of both races, perhaps ponder these thoughts.
Hopefully, it’s the former, and you are looking at the name Binder
towards the top of the tables.
Miller at KTM in 2023
After a long spell at Ducati, Jack Miller will share a pit with Brad Binder
at KTM in 2023. There are many reasons that this is a happy occurrence,
some include pragmatic ones, such as Miller’s input and experience he
carries from Ducati, but we suspect that much of the happiness is Miller
as a person.
The playful Australian is one of the most popular personalities in the
paddock, especially among his peers. He and Brad are especially good
friends, and it’s believed that the South African and his fiancé are on the
guest list for Miller’s wedding.
As we have seen in the opposite scenario with Gardiner, KTM put much
emphasis on the character of its staff and how they interact with the
rest of the workforce.
Riders are not excluded.
In that case, Miller will fit right in, and Red Bull KTM should be the most
entertaining pit in the paddock.
The return of Marquez
After about a million operations on his arm, giving it a sincerely
cyborg-ish feel, Frankenstein’s Marquez has returned to the paddock,
much to Honda’s relief, after they had started earning the title of backmarkers.
His return at Aragon was marked with controversy after his race effectively
ended after three corners when he lost the rear of his Honda and
had the world championship leader Quartararo ram him from behind.
While Fabulous Fabio tumbled, Marquez managed to carry on seemingly
unscathed until he attempted to activate his ride-height device out of
Turn Seven, only to find that it was jammed full of bits of Yamaha.
His back wheel momentarily locked up before ejecting the Yamaha
intruders leaving Marquez lagging onto the following straight.
He then moved to the left to get a line for the next corner, colliding with
an incoming Nakagami, causing the Japanese rider to hit the deck hard
and damaging his hand.
Both these accidents were put down to racing incidents which is
somewhat fair. However, if I were running the stewards committee, I’d
have had a few words for Marquez about pulling into traffic when going
slowly.
Maybe it did.
The good news for the Marquez camp came at Motegi when the Spaniard
qualified on pole in the rain and finished the dry race in a commendable
fourth place without crashing into anyone. Even more so, he
commented that he had full movement in his arm and no pain.
That’s a worrying prospect for the rest of the field, which may find life
difficult for them when Marquez gets back up to full speed.
See ya next month!
Scholtz and Petersen flying high in America:
The American national Superbike series has seen its up and
downs. Formerly known as the AMA Superbike Series until that
slowly diminished, it was replaced by the MotoAmerica Series and
has now returned to glory as one of the most prestigious national
championships in the world. And two South Africans are right there.
Cameron Petersen (son of former racing ace Robbie Petersen) and
Mathew Scholtz lie third and fourth in the championship behind
American champion Jake Gagne and former MotoGP winner Danilo
Petrucci. The pair have finished on the podium for most of the races
they have finished, including a win each at the two heats at Road
America.
With one round to go, the championship win looks out of sight, but the
two Saffers have earned celebrity status in the American scene.
And thats awesome!
South Africans snatch one-two at 100th Bol d’Or 24-Hour.
Steven Odendaal and Sheridan Morais’s teams finished first and second in the
100th Bol d’Or 24-Hour Endurance Race, marking a one-two finish for Yamaha and
a historic one-two for South Africans in a World Endurance Championship race.
It took place at the Paul Ricard Circuit, a track that is basically a massive slab
of tar painted with bold blue lines except for the bits where the actual track is. It
was largely a race of attrition, with many of the top teams suffering mechanical
failures early on, it was eventually a Ducati Panigale that led the way and stayed
out front for almost the entire race until clutch issues plagued them with a mere
90 minutes to go. This left the Polish Wójcik Racing Team featuring Sheridan
Morais in the lead until they too suffered a technical problem costing them five
minutes and the lead. Eventually, the 333 bike of Viltais Racing Igol, featuring
Steven Odendaal, took top honours. A French team winning the French race with
a little help from a South African. The Wójcik Racing Team returned to the track in
second place to complete the historical South African one-two.

230hp
Aprilia
230hp Aprilia RSV4 XTrenta pays tribute to
three decades of racing success
Aprilia is celebrating 30 years since their
first World Championship title with a new
100-run version of their RSV4 Factory
superbike.
Called the RSV4 XTrenta, it follows the
Noale firm’s 2019 RSV4 X and Tuono X, as a
track-only missile boasting a claimed 230hp
(226.9bhp), carbon bodywork, and even the
promise of a full titanium exhaust mimicking
their RS-GP MotoGP bike on the way.
Available online from September 6, the
special superbikes feature carbon fibre
bodywork produced by Modena firm, PAN
Compositi using what Aprilia claim to be
the same processes as those used on their
grand prix bikes.
Painted in a replica of their 1992 125GP
championship-winning livery, it was also
recently teased by Lorenzo Savadori in the
Austrian round of the MotoGP.
But that’s not all, there are also new front
and rear wings – plus the firm’s ‘under wing’
design on the swingarm – technology first
seen on GP grids back in 2019.
The result is a claimed 25% increase in
aerodynamic load and 4% reduction in drag.
Great for pitlane bingo, but unlikely to be felt
by your average rider around Snetterton.
What’s more likely to be felt is the 226.9bhp
liquid cooled V4, which builds on the
standard road bike’s mere 214bhp.
This has been achieved via a new titanium
and carbon exhaust system built by
SC-Project. There’s also a new air filter and
radiators produced by Taleo Tecnoracing,
who are no strangers to building
components for world championship grids.
Helping to keep all that power on the straight
and narrow is a Magneti Marelli control unit,
plus an electronic suite managed by a set of
JetPrime switches.
As far as handling’s concerned, you also
get Öhlins suspension modified by Italian
suspension firm Andreani in collaboration
with Aprilia MotoGP engineers. Braking is
also supplied by hefty Brembo GP4-MS billet
monobloc calipers and 330mm discs, with
Pirelli Diablo SBK slick tyres wrapping round
the forged magnesium Marchesini rims.

KAWASAKI’S Z900 Revisited
One of the best value motorcycle propositions on the SA market. higher price point, sure many are higher specc’d, but we really do have
The Z900 story began a long time ago. Kawasaki stunned the world to ask: Does the average Joe actually need anything more? Well yes!
back in 1972 with the introduction of one of the meanest motorcycles Horsepower and gadgets are king, but that all comes at a premium.
ever made. In 2022, Kawasaki called to ask whether we’d like to ride
the Z900. Yup, we’ve featured this bike before, usually in multi tests
with bikes of similar pedigree, but the thought of focusing again on
this one appealed to us. In a multi feature, you get to ride lots of
different bikes, this time it was just our lot, the Kawasaki and some
glorious spring sunshine.
Let’s discuss the elephant in the room, the price. When we collected,
the figure that was bounced around was R166k. We know, we know, we
are not overly arrogant, that’s certainly not chump change but relative to
other bikes on the market this is almost unbelievable value. If you look
at Dirt And Trail Magazine, a dirt bike is starting to tip the scale at that
price. Road bike wise, you can grab a Honda NC 750 or a Yamaha MT07
for a bit less… but these are 750’s. This Kawasaki is a four cylinder,
900cc and there is nothing else in that class that comes close to this
price tag. How do they do it? Who knows? And… the bottom line is, it’s
a lot of bang for your buck. Equivalent nakeds tip the scale at a much
The bones:
In a nutshell, the Zed has a comfy seat, great ergonomics in that you
are not crouched over the very cool LED headlight. Bolted to the frame,
you’ll find 41 mm inverted forks with rebound damping and spring
preload adjustability. Out back you’ll find what they call a Horizontal
Back-link with rebound damping and spring preload adjustability. Dual
semi-floating 300 mm petal discs are bolted to the front wheel, grabbed
by Nissin Dual opposed 4-piston calipers. There’s also a 250 mm petal
disc stopped by a single-piston. In the cockpit you’ll find Kawasaki’s
Bluetooth enabled 10.9cm TFT dash. You can choose between a black
or white background and both are clear, perfect for whatever light
conditions. The display shows speed, revs, gear position, an ‘Eco’ riding
indicator and the usual trip and mileage information. Pair it with your
phone and you can use Kawasaki’s Rideology app to log your journey,
remotely adjust display settings and view the bike’s vital statistics
including current fuel level, mileage and service schedule.

Engine:
The Zed’s traditional 948cc inline four-cylinder motor makes 124bhp
and 73ftlb or around 99Nm of torque. It really is a lekker engine, so
smooth with great gearing and fistfuls of grins up to the 10,500rpm
redline. The bike has 3 rider modes: ‘Sport’ has full power and the least
traction control intervention, ‘Rain’ has reduced power with lots of TC and
‘Road’ has full power and medium traction. And it’s all selectable on the
move. You can mix and match power and traction level in ‘Rider’ mode
for when you want less intrusion from the electronics, or you can turn it
off completely on the back roads and show off a bit on the back wheel.
There’s no quick shifter, (that keeps costs down), but the gearbox and
clutch are butter smooth. All the while, the stock pipe sings some great
tunes as it delivers great low down grunt.
This bike has a high end feel to it. The paintwork and build quality belie
rands needed to get a leg over this saddle. It has a comfortable, well
sorted rider triangle with a seat that’s wide at the rear and tapers nicely
against the tank, for a comfortable ride across a broad range of riders.
The engineers paid lots of attention to detail including the wavy discs, ‘Z’
shaped rear light and shaped bar ends. It’s a smooth, fast well balanced
ride. The suspension is firm and handles rough tar really well and even
when we picked up a nail in the rear tyre and lost back pressure, she
stayed in shape until we pulled into the garage to pop in a plug in order to
get home. Yup, there is a lot to be said for tubeless tyres.
The Zed is a sporty naked with a chassis and riding position that’s
perfectly mated to a smooth, high revving, 123bhp engine. It’s so much
fun to ride and such a great value proposition right now.
Get down to your Kawasaki dealer.
Footnote on tyre repair:
There’s a big difference between
an emergency fix, where you stuff a
rope plug or two into a hole and ride
slowly with your hazards on just to
get home, and what we would call
a long-term or permanent fix that
you can ride on like normal. Not all
tyre manufacturers condone repairs,
even in emergency situations.
That’s because just like riding
a motorcycle, there’s danger in
riding on a repaired tyre, so some
manufacturers will simply tell you
to call a tow truck and order a new
one. The integrity of your rubber is
really important, so a fresh tyre is
definitely the safest option, but it’s
not what you want to hear if you
just picked up a nail in a nearly new
hoop, (some of the better insurers
out there will actually pay for the
replacement).
The eligible repair area is limited to
the center 75 percent of the tread to
get you to your nearest tyre supplier.
That’s because the shoulders flex
too much and might spit the plug
out. The sidewalls are off limits
to plugs for the same reason.
Personally, we’d replace as soon
as possible, especially on a bike
capable of 200KPH plus.

The Connoisseurs Machine.
Suzuki’s updated Katana
Suzuki SA recently invited to grab their
Katana and go for a ride… our response was,
“We have reviewed it several times already
and ridden the wheels off of it.”
“No you haven’t, this is the all new 2022
version.”
It has been updated and we quite like what
they have done. The vertically stacked LED
headlight featuring a distinctive light beam and
unique, rectangular shape. It is flanked by LED
position lights and turn signals that maximize
the Katana’s visibility and accentuate its
angular styling. The fuel-injected 999cm³
GSX-R-based engine now features a 40mm
electronic throttle control mechanism, 4mm’s
smaller than the mechanical set up on the
previous model. That smooths the power
delivery.
The Katana employs the Suzuki Intelligent
Ride System collection of the latest electronic
systems developed to assist you and help
you to “optimize performance characteristics
to match your changing riding needs and
preferences.”
These include the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector,
Suzuki Traction Control System, Ride-by-Wire
Electronic Throttle System, Bi-directional Quick
Shift System, Suzuki Easy Start System, and
Low RPM Assist.
“Okay, we are in,” and thus we grabbed the
latest iteration of the 80’s icon on a Friday
morning and went about our daily business
which included a ride out to Vaal Suzuki and
then we undertook some bumbling around
town on our daily chores.
Here’s the skinny:
The Katana is powered by a 112kW
powerplant. This long-stroke engine provides
smooth throttle response and immediate,
controlled acceleration. The 999cm³
liquid-cooled, DOHC, inline-four engine has
ventilation holes between the cylinders to
reduce pumping loss within the crankcase so
the engine can deliver more power and torque.
The profiles of the dual overhead camshafts
are designed to enhance street performance
and optimize emissions performance.
The 6-speed close-ratio transmission features
vertically staggered shafts to reduce overall
engine length. This permits the use of a GSX-
R-style twin-spar frame. The Suzuki Clutch
Assist System increases clamping pressure
under acceleration yet acts as a slipper clutch
to smooth the engine response during engine
braking and corner entry.
This one is packed with electronics:
Suzuki Traction Control System helps you
control the throttle with more confidence
in various riding conditions. 5 rider modes
including an OFF setting which you can easily
select between when stopped or on the fly via
a handlebar-mounted control.
Traction Control. The bike features Suzuki’s
Bi-directional Quick Shift System. Suzuki’s
Drive Mode Selector offers a selection of three
different output maps that match performance
to riding conditions, surface conditions, or
your preferred riding style.

The 2022 Suzuki Katana features no
changes to the chassis and retains the same
suspension and braking hardware as its
predecessor. However, it has changed the
colours of the wheels, fork tubes, rear shock
spring, and it looks a whole lot prettier than
the first rendition.
Chassis wise the Katana has a rigid twinspar
aluminium main frame coupled with a
superbike-style braced aluminium swingarm.
Extending from the swingarm is a satellite rear
fender that hugs the tyre.
The 43mm inverted KYB forks have adjustable
compression and rebound damping, and spring
preload with a 120 mm of front wheel travel.
The link-type monoshock rear suspension is
tuned for progressive feel. It features
seven-way adjustable spring preload as well as
rebound damping force adjustment. It has dual
front brakes with floating 310mm discs and
Brembo radial mount monobloc calipers with
four 32mm opposed pistons. The front brakes
are complemented by a 240mm rear disc brake
with a Nissin single-piston caliper.
Both the front and rear brakes are modulated
by a compact Antilock Brake System controller
that matches stopping force to the available
traction. The large diameter, matte black,
tapered aluminium handlebars have a rise and
bend unique to the Katana. The floating design
with rubber mounts between the top bridge
and handlebar brackets reduces the amount of
vibration transmitted to the rider’s hands.
The relatively low 825mm seat height
combines with the shape of the seat and how
it blends into the fuel tank to allow the rider to
plant their feet firmly on the ground at stops.
The LCD multifunction instrument panel is
pretty cool. The panel’s amber backlighting
creates a contrast that clearly displays the
lettering against the black background when
riding at night but that looks white when
riding in daylight to maintain clear visibility
of the displayed information. The LCD panel
displays a digital speedometer, bar-style
tachometer, odometer, dual trip meters, gear
position, coolant temperatures, driving range,
average fuel consumption, instantaneous fuel
consumption, riding range, traction control
level, plus a lap-timer and clock.
So, how does that all translate into the ride?
Well… some good… some bad, depends on
your build, riding style and all sorts.
But let’s start with the bad and get it over and
done with. The digital dashboard is busy and
fiddly with lots of info displayed all at once. If
your eyesight is not that great then you may
need reading glasses to try and decipher all
the info… which I do. The problem is, with
my reading glasses on I can’t see more than
about a metre in front of me, so I forego the
ability to read the dashboard in preference
of being able to safely see where I am going.
With advent of the digital age and everybody
spending eighty percent of their lives staring
at one digital device or another I am not alone
in this hinderance and a lot of manufacturers
are starting to work that out and fit nice big
easy to navigate and read TFT screens or just
plain old analogue clocks with warning lights,
my personal preference in this instance as I
regularly find myself so intrigued by the TFT
dash that I lose focus and concentration on
the road and end up having to take evasive
action to avoid blaring hooters… and the same
happened on the Katana trying to sort out all
the dash info and navigation buttons through
squinted eyes.
Speaking of blaring hooters, at around five
thousand to fifty five hundred rpm, which is
almost exactly the posted national highway
speed limit (which none of really do anyway!),
the ‘Kat’ develops quite an interesting vibration
through the seat. I could feel a similar
vibration on my feet which tickled like crazy
and the only way to sort this out was to either
dawdle along at about a hundred kays per hour
or spank along way above the speed limit and
keep an eagle eye out for the Tsotsi’s in blue
looking for a free lunch.
The suspension does seem quite firm to
me, (even at 115kg’s in my birthday suit),
and I became quite the connoisseur of the
exceptionally uneven South African roads
network wandering which of the very many
bumps was going to destroy my ass. So some
set up there would be recommended to suit
each riders weight and riding preferences.
However, that being said, the standard suspension albeit not
that comfy over the bumps is superb in the faster twisty stuff.
And my last niggle is this. The wind protection, YES! I know it
is a naked bike but with most naked bikes I am able to tuck my
two metre long body into the bike and drop onto the tank and
peer over clocks and whatever decorative screen may come
with the bike. With the Katana the tank has no niche or profile
top slot your knees into and the bump stop on the seat stops
you from sliding back sufficiently to properly tuck in so my chin/
Adams-apple is basically above the handle bar mount with the
highest point of the tank fighting my boep for the same bit of
space, so anything above 180kmh became a bit of a chore for
extended periods. This is the type of bike that I would use in and
rather than deal with the wind.
Okay, that’s enough of all my whinging, the Katana is really quite
a spectacular machine. The addition of the easy-shifter has
been an exceptionally good thing. It is silky smooth both up
and down at any rev range and I dare say the smoothest I have
experienced to date. Diving into corners you can concentrate on
your angle of attack and body position while smoothly clicking
down through the box, then bulleting out the other side you can
focus on the track ahead and getting hard on the power while
power shifting up while the scenery turns into a blur around you.
Switch between the power/riding modes and you can feel a
distinct difference. Mode C is essentially your rain mode with all
the nannies turned on and the power dialled down to sensible
parameters. Move up to B mode and the Katana starts to come
alive and get quite exciting with the motor developing quite a
bark under load. Mode A is the “woellige” mode as somebody
in the office put it quite eloquently. All bets are off in this mode
and your talent and riding skill come to the forefront here…
especially if you are nuts enough to switch the traction control
off.
112kw’s being forced onto terra firma through a patch of rubber
does sometimes need exceptionally quick reaction time from
the rider or immediate intervention from the onboard electronics
when traction becomes an issue. As was the case when I was
cranked over in a bend and something on the road surface
caused the back wheel to step out, before I could even react,
the traction control pulled everything back in line faster than my
foofie valve stopped my under-rods from turning brown.
Bumbling around town you can feel a significant difference from
the new degree on the cams because the Katana pulls nice and
strong from off the mark and has plenty of mid-range power for
traffic dodging all day long. Grab hard on the throttle and hold
on, especially in mode A. When that Gixxer motor comes alive
the Katana turns into a completely different beast, the weapon
that its name signifies and suddenly the suspension set up
starts to make sense, the geometry of the bike comes into play
as it incites the hooligan in the rider.
Do not mistake the Katana for a touring or long distance bike.
It is passable as a commuter at best… but as a track weapon
or carving up mountain passes or spending hours on its back
wheel or lighting up the tyre through the corners… with the
traction control switched completely off of course…. It lives up
to its heritage.
Aprilia’s 2023 Tuono - V4 1100
In 2021 IMI gave us the Tuono Factory for the day and the lust factor went through the
roof. In 2022, they loaned us the Tuono, a slightly more cost effective, less race bike ride
for the day and guess what… We like it just as much! Launched in 2012, the first Tuono V4
thundered on to the market offering superbike levels of performance in a naked guise.
What’s the difference between a Factory and a Tuono? Well, a factory generally has big chimneys
and… OK! OK! Enough now! The Tuono includes features suited to sport-touring, with
an emphasis on sport and the Factory model remains an out-and-out hyper-naked, equally
at home at the track or on a twisty mountain road. The main differences between the two
models, are found in the suspension, in the riding position, and in the details:
This Tuono V4 hosts a tidy windscreen and fairing panels that help direct the wind away from
the rider. The triple LED headlight array and DRL configuration, common across the Tuono
lineup, includes cornering lights to illuminate the road ahead through the turns. These are
accompanied by a taller riser handlebar that props the rider more upright. It’s still sporty
and you certainly are not upright. The bike hosts a large, 5-inch, colour TFT dash and new
switchgear, with automatic headlight activation and turn signal cancellation. It has a broad,
flat passenger seat. An integrated grabrail, and lower passenger pegs look after your pillion
rider. It can also accept luggage.
That sweet 1100cc V4 mill is re-tuned for more midrange torque and still puts out a claimed
175 BHP. Taller gearing makes for a ‘slightly’ more chilled ride. The Aprilia Performance
Ride Control, (APRC), controls everything, including throttle response, wheelie control and
engine braking. The Tuono is fitted with a very smooth up-and-down shifter. Aprilia updated
its Quickshift software recently which improved an already very impressive system. Between
the gearbox and the engine a slipper-type clutch works some magic to deliver light clutch
pulls and drag-torque protection through the six speed gearbox. The electronics are really
simple, one button to switch between rider modes and oh yes! Cruise control. Pretty cool for
the long road. The factory model comes with Ohlins Smart EC 2.0 semi active electronically
adjustable suspension. The Tuono comes with conventional Sachs suspension front and rear.
Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tyres complete the package.

So it’s a more sensible bike… Or is it? Well, distances on the Tuono are
more comfortable than on the Factory. The firm seat is comfortable and
the wind while still hitting your shoulders and head has no buffeting
and the slightly raised handlebar releases some of the pressure on the
wrists.
Sensible? Sure! You tell your other half that. It’s still a hooligan machine
that is powered by one of our all-time favorite engines. If you have never
ridden a motorcycle powered by a big bore V4 Engine, then best you
make a plan. It’s a peach, something unique, that girl that you won’t take
home to meet mamma.
The 1077cc 65-degree V4 cranks out 175 horsepower and 89 ft-lbs of
torque or around 120Nm or so. This all sounds simple on paper. As you
start out below 3000 rpm, it feels grumpy. Lots of power, but you can tell
it just isn’t that happy. Open the throttle, especially in sports mode and
everything changes… a lot. Anything above 5000 rpm is the happy place
for the Tuono. The low-end vibrations fade away, replaced by a seemingly
endless Italian soprano from that pipe. It’s awesome! Smooth,
powerful and so full of “Give Me More” personality.
The Sachs suspension is firm. Still, it handled all the back roads and
freeways just fine without crushing the kidneys. We didn’t fiddle with
the suspension settings, which allows for compression and rebound
adjustments. The Tuono sports Brembo M50 calipers and 330mm rotors
up front, with a single Brembo floating 2-piston caliper and 220mm
rotor in back, both with steel-braided lines. All of this translates to huge
stopping power.
For urban and freeway riding, this bike handles far better than most
riders. We took the JHB ring road and explored lots of the quiet back
roads that we know and it was just too lekker!
Best of all… it’s fun. Unlike so many bikes that are smooth and refined,
this one grabs you by the belt and hurls you along at Mach 4 all the
while keeping everything in check so that you can just enjoy it all. It’s not
ideal as a long distance tourer, but a ride out to your favorite weekend
spot will be some of the best fun that you can have…
This Tuono V4 will set you back a cool R345000.00
Short Circuit Racing
These boys are quick, it’s something you
must witness for yourself. The speed and
talent these boys bring out on Raceday is
absolute. Two of these boys took it all out
as they outperformed their rivals. #41 Jason
van Breda was on a path that no other could
follow, a stellar performance seeing him
take full points. The 65cc reigning champ #1
Adam Naidoo was also too much for the rest
of the pack as he got the glory and the top
step for the day.
No sun and heat will keep the academy
riders from taking the track.
I want to give a shout out to the SAMRA
#BORE NSF100 riders, #24 Laila Williams,
#34 Matthew Rees, #52 Troy Tonking, #110
Bohlale Mafokate, #45 Amohelang Phiri, #33
Josh van Rooyen and #22 Cayden Robert.
Thank you for keeping the academy alive
and showing us there is a future for the
young and hungry kids out there. Keep it up.
The SM Junior 50cc boys are no strangers
to giving some great battles, especially
between two boys #101 Keaton de Jager
and #711 Tristan Swart. Those battles have
been in the spotlight for a few years and
their rivalry has been set in stone.
From my point of view there was someone
that stood out, someone that has made his
presence known in only a very short time.
#11x Luca Bergover from what I have seen
has made an impact on the racing. His
speed and determination as he improves
with every lap will become a thorn in the top
two riders sides.
Round 8 will give us more of an insight
prediction:
Bergover will make things even more exiting
in 2023.
Throughout the three heats of the SM2
class we got to see #117 David Veringa
bringing ferocity and speed with a pace
that none of the other riders could match
and he stormed to an easy victory for
the day. Once again the Wetterman twins
showed up with their A-game and made
things difficult for everyone else. #31 Luan
Wetterman managed to take 2nd overall
with #84 Christiano Caravello in 3rd and #30
Ruben Wetterman right behind him in 4th
for the day. Always a good show to watch,
the SM2’s did not disappoint and leaving us
hungry for the action waiting in Round 8.
Round 7
Short Circuit Racing:
The second and last Polokwane race of
the year has come and gone. And it was
AWESOME!
Words and pics by Deon VDL
Polokwane always makes everyone so tingly
inside. Everybody loves coming here to
enjoy the racing. Strangers and friends leave
Polokwane as Family. I don’t know if it is
something in the air or the warm beating sun
that make the people feel different or even in
the water they make us drink on the hot sunny
race day. It is clear that once again as we
walk through the pits the sights and sounds is
unmistakable. Seeing the smiles on so many
faces, hearing revving engines as the kids run
by laughing – and the smell of fuel make it
clear race day is here.
The excitement grew as the Clubman’s took
their place for the first race of the day. #21
Arno Erasmus right out of the gate showed
that he might just be unstoppable #96
Sebastiano d Arrigo stepped up to make
Erasmus think twice, giving him all he got but
just not enough. The thing was that these two
boys was growing the excitement so much that
the rest of the day was a sure thing to just get
so much better.
The SM Junior 65 & 85’s as always produced
shows that made the mind think twice. Damn!
In Round 7 the kids on the PW50’s gave us
their seventh amazing day of racing. These
fearless kids are awesome!
They attack the circuit with such enthusiasm
that it is unmistakable that the fans will for
a very long time enjoy watching these boys
grow into some great racers. As long as we
can give these kids a platform to race, race
they shall. So please support our young
racing talent so they can lay the foundation
for the one to take their place soon.

With the drop of the flag #41 Jason van Breda
grabbed the holeshot with the rest of the 150cc
bikes chasing him into corner one. A clean
start for all the riders and the race was on. #13
Ryan van Nieuwkerk chased van Breda with
#20 Tyler Richards
on and #26 Oratilwe Phiri not far behind.
Van Breda managed to keep his cool and won
the first race. In race two van Nieuwkerk looked
like he had what it takes for the win, bad luck
struck as he lost the front end and we saw him
crash out of 1st place.
Phiri and #22 Cayden Robert followed van
Breda to the end for 2nd and 3rd place. The last
race saw van Nieuwkerk start from the back as
he ploughed through the pack trying to catch
up to the front runners. Phiri crossed the line in
2nd with van Nieuwkerk right behind him. #13
still managed to take 3rd overall with Phiri in
2nd and the unstoppable van Breda taking 1st.
As the main SM1 Motard class made their way
onto the track, excitement got a new jolt of
life. Speeding down towards turn one with no
incident things looked to be in form for great
action.
There was no one to stop #33 Aston Nesbit
he slid through the corners to an easy victory.
#18 Hunter Dreyer had an amazing clean
race with #923 Brandon Heukelman with his
own fantastic racing made the SM1 class
something to watch. #43 Quinton van Wyk took
all he had and kept #1 Micheal Louw behind
him to take the Masters top spot. #41 Wian
Erasmus was the Grand Masters winner of the
day with #63 kevin James being surprised by
#20 Vasco Barbolini’s full on attack and was
just able to hold onto 2nd and Barbolini with a
well deserved 3rd place.
They always give the fans a good final show,
with wheelies as they stand on the seat and
finish off by smoking the tyres in front of the
cheering crowd.
The cheers and applause from the fans sets
the way towards the SASCS Round 8 at Redstar
Raceway on the 22nd of October.
Bring the family to watch the action. It’s an
awesome day out.
Round 4
to be raced in the series.
Unfortunately a collision between Jayson
Lamb and Graeme Van Breda ended Jaysons
race early on.
At the end it was Graeme Van Breda who
took the chequered flag.
Jayson was able to get his bike back
together for race 2 and there was a clean
start as all the riders made it through turn
1 this time. There were fights all the way
through the field with 33 riders on the track,
Landi Sinden made her return to racing and
showed that she can still ride that machine
like she was never off it.
At the front it was Van Breda, Slammet and
Westman again fighting for the podium
positions. In the end Van Breda took the
chequered flag again and won the round.
The class winners were as follows:
Round 6 & 7 at Kyalami
Grand Prix Circuit
26 August 2022 and 28
August 2022
STORY BY BRONWYN GALGOCZY
What an amazing weekend with 33 entries for
the SunBet ZX10 Masters Cup held at Kyalami
in August. It was one of the biggest events we
have seen all year.
Round 6 - Thursday afternoon saw all the
riders take to the track for their qualifying
sessions, for many riders this was the first
time to ride on the iconic Kyalami circuit with
Ronald Slammet taking pole position with a
1:52.804
Friday - Race day for round 6 and the
excitement was felt by all the riders.
Race 1 started and unfortuantely Rob Cragg
had a massive highside in the first corner.
Sfiso Themba also had to pull into pits with
mechanical issues.
The rest of the pack all made it through
cleanly. The race was lead by Graeme Van
Breda with Jayson Lamb hot on his tail. Trevor
Westman was fighting with Ronald Slammet
and Brian Bontekoning on the first 2022 ZX10

Round 7 – Saturday saw all the riders out on track for their
qualifying session and enjoying the crowds that were at the
Festival of Motoring.
In the end it was Trevor Westman who was on pole with a
blistering 1:50.187
Sunday - race 1 and the sound of the bikes on the grid
could be heard all around the track. Again it was Westman,
Slammet and Van Breda fighting for podium positions, Rob
Cragg was able to get his bike repaired for this round and
was battling with Pieter De Vos. There was no holding back
from any of the riders, right up to the last corner on the last
lap that claimed yet another rider for the weekend, Hein
McMahon. In the end it was Van Breda who held the rest off
to take the chequered flag again.
Race 2 saw a better start from the pole man Westman but it
was Van Breda who got the holeshot. There was a big back
up of 8 riders who were all fighting for podium positions.
With the race being reduced to 8 laps after a very busy
weekend of racing, the riders gave it all they had.
It was good to see Jayson Lamb back in the fight with
Slammet and Bontekoning. They weren’t giving any breaks.
With 4 laps to go Westman made a move on Van Breda and
started to pull away.
It was Westman who took home the chequered flag in this
race and the overall win in round 7 with a new lap record.
The class winners were:
Masters: Trevor Westman
Veterans: Graeme Van Breda
Extreme Veterans: Brian Bontekoning
Well done to all the riders who participated in the weekend,
to all those who crashed we wish you a speedy recovery
and hope to see you at the last round on 15 October 2022
at Zwartkops Raceway where the championship will be
decided.

Ducati Streetfighter V4
From the heart of Motor Valley, in the prestigious context of the
San Marino and the Rimini Riviera GP, the Ducati Streetfighter V4
Lamborghini has been unveiled.
A numbered and limited edition of 630+63 units, inspired by the
Lamborghini Huracán STO and built on the technical base of the
Panigale V4 S 2023
Characterized by extremely aggressive shapes, special, lightweight
components and a dedicated livery, the Ducati Streetfighter V4
Lamborghini represents the second chapter of the collaboration
between the two brands that are ambassadors of Made in Italy in the
world
Ducati Streetfighter V4 Lamborghini Speciale Clienti: a limited
and numbered series of 63 units reserved for special Lamborghini
customers who will have the opportunity to configure the bike with
body colours and rims identical to the car they own, as well as
matching seat colours and front brake caliper colours.
Passionate customers can complete their look with a limited edition
helmet, jacket and leathers, all in the colours of the bike.
Ducati has created a hyper-exclusive model. The bike will be produced
in a numbered series limited to 630+63 units and it reworks the
concepts that gave life to the Lamborghini Huracán STO.
Lamborghini styling has been transferred to the Ducati Streetfighter
V4 Lamborghini, starting with the forged wheels made specifically
for this bike with the design of the Huracán STO. The rear rim is
enhanced by the presence of a single titanium locking nut, also with a
Lamborghini design.
Lamborghini:
cover, wings, tank cover and tail) are made using the same texture
visible on the supersports cars of the Sant’Agata Bolognese company.
The saddle of the motorcycle is also inspired by the finish of the seats
of the Huracán STO thanks to the presence of highlights in the same
colour as the superstructures.
The name of the model and the serial number of the bike are shown
on a metal plate inserted in the central tank cover. The number is
also machined from solid on an aluminium insert of the ignition key
and appears on the TFT dashboard during ignition, together with a
celebratory animation showing the Ducati and Lamborghini badges
and the silhouette of the model
630 examples of the Ducati Streetfighter Lamborghini will be made in
Verde Citrea/Arancio Dac, one of the specific colour combinations of
the Huracán STO. Brembo wings and brake calipers are also coloured
in Arancio Dac, the latter with a contrasting black logo. The Öhlins
stays and fork legs are black.
In addition to the 630 Verde Citrea/Arancio Dac units, Ducati is
offering an even more exclusive series of 63 bikes, called Speciale
Clienti, which are only available to 63 Lamborghini customers. These
customers, through a direct collaboration with the Centro Stile Ducati,
will be able to configure their Ducati Streetfighter V4 Lamborghini
Speciale Clienti with body colours and wheels exactly like their
Lamborghini. It will also be possible for them to choose the colours
of the brake calipers among those included in the palette (Yellow, Red,
Black and California Orange, in addition to the standard colour) and
the details of the saddle among the four available versions.
A further testimony of the obsessive attention to detail that
characterizes this bike is the fact that all the carbon components
(including the aforementioned front mudguard, belly pan, radiator
