2023: Oborevwori's tenure as gov'll benefit Deltans —Uduaghan
E FFURUN—FORMER
governor of Delta State and a
Pan Deltan, Dr Emmanuel
Uduaghan has said that the good
people of the State will benefit in
multifaceted ways if the governorship
candidate of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, Sheriff
Oborevwori, is elected governor in
2023.
Uduaghan gave the assurance
at a special meeting of the Federal
Government College, Warri Old
Students Association in Effurun
on Sunday, saying that he had to
come out openly to support
Oborevwori, so as to kill fake news
making the rounds that he was
against his governorship ambition.
The former governor who is
popularly known as “Asamaigor”
due to his friendly disposition and
high sense of humour, disclosed
that he was never against
Oborevwori’s candidature, pointing
out that transition of political
power in constitutional democracies
from an incumbent governor
to a nongovernor has never
been on a platter of gold, judging
from past experiences in political
power transitions in Delta State
and around the world.
Uduaghan noted that the heat
associated with struggles for political
power can be likened to
unavoidable heat taken by the
kettle in the process of boiling
water for tea consumption, adding
that Oborevwori is obviously
battling with his fair share of
“the heat” but that at the end
he will surely overcome by the
grace of God.
“I am sincerely excited that
you are here today. I was never
and still not against your governorship
ambition. It has been
trending on social media that I
have finally decided to support
your candidature.
“I had to come out openly to
support you, so as to kill the
rumours making the rounds
that I am against your governorship
ticket. No, I am not
and will never go against you.
“I am supporting you based
on my personal conviction.
Deltans will benefit alot if you
are elected governor of Delta
State. This is the simple truth.
Mega Lifesciences sensitise
Lagosians on dangers of diabetes
By Gabriel Olawale
LAGOS—AS the world marks
2022 World Diabetes Day, Mega
Lifesciences, a leading pharmaceutical
company has embarked
on a sensitization of Lagos
State residents on the dangers
of diabetes ailment which
could be life-threatening if not
detected on time.
Speaking during the 9th edition
of the company diabetes
education and awareness campaign,
Head of Business, Mega
Lifesciences, Amit
Raghunvanshy, said that Nigerians
need to take their health
into their own hands.
Raghunvanshy said that the
Mega Lifesciences’s initiative
tagged, “Good health by yourself,”
is a platform where Nigerians
can check their health on
the pharmaceutical company’s
website. “As the word is explanatory,
you can see good
health; you are taking care of
your own health, and you are
responsible for your health. I
have realised that if you keep
on talking to someone to live a
healthy lifestyle, they will not
change unless they decide on
their own and shun a crummy
lifestyle, especially as it pertains
to diet; then only will it hap-
LAGOS—AS part of efforts to
amicably resolve issues raised
by some industry stakeholders,
the Board of Trustees, BoT, of
Nigerian Institute of Welding,
NIW, has called on members and
stakeholders to desist from actions
intended to smear the
good image of the institute. .
A statement signed by the
BoT chairman, Dr. Chudi
Egbunike said the move which
was aimed at availing
stakeholders to discuss critical
issues facing the development
in the industry and institute
has led to emergence of factions
in the Board.
"The move by some disgruntled
persons to divide the Board
and make false allegations
against some members does not
augur well in the best interest
of the welding profession in Nigeria
and the institute in particular.
"We are therefore going to
hold our annual general meeting,
AGM, before the year ends
so as to address the issues
O WERRI—THE
Governor of Imo State,
Sen. Hope Uzodimma has approved
the appointment of Sir
Prince Eleazar Ognonna as the
Chairman of Imo State Sports
Commission.
Prince Ogbonna's appointgovernor
to another has never
been easy. It’s like the heat that
boils hot water for tea
consumpton. Tea has to go
through hot water for it to be drinkable
“You have been going through
fair share of the heat but you will
surely succeed at the end in Jesus
Name, Amen,” Uduaghan
said.
Responding, Delta PDP Governorship
candidate and the longest
serving Speaker since the creation
of the state, Rt Hon
Oborevwori Sheriff Francis
Orohwedor, said when he saw his
boss’s (Uduaghan) car at the meeting
venue, he was shocked because
nobody hinted him of the
former governor’s intention to
attend the meeting.
ment is effective, November 9,
2022.
Governor Uzodimma congratulated
Prince Ogbonna on his appointment
and urged him to bring
to bear his wealth of experience
in the Commission in line with
government's programmes in the
Sports sector of Imo State.
pen.
“So, you have to take your
health into your own hands. At
megawecare website, one can
check one’s levels of health. “On
that website, one can register
oneself for free and one can get
health-related newsletters. You
can see there are free tools, which
are international tools. You can
check your basal metabolic rate
that is BMR. You can check your
BMI, you can check your heart
rate and you can check other conditions
also even prostate. Not
only on diabetes but also about
other health conditions such as
prostate enlargement; this is also
a top issue in Nigeria,” he said.
Product Manager of Diabetes
Care, Mega Lifesciences, Adedayo
Aremu, said the pharmaceutical
company has reached over
200,000 people in its quest to educate
them on diabetes prevention
and care.
“Mega Lifescience is a company
that is dedicated to wellness and
Nigerians are very interested in
it. That is why we are committed
to various wellness education
projects. One of them is the patient
education process. In the last
five years, for example, we’ve been
able to reach out to no fewer than
200,000 in our quest to educate
them on diabetes,” he said.
NIW BoT moves to resolve
crisis
raised by our aggrieved members
and resolve them amicably for the
advancement of the profession”.
"We are concerned that at a time
when we all should be working
together to ensure the full implementation
of the Welding policy
framework recently approved by
the Federal Execute Council,
FEC, some persons are out to
thwart our efforts”.
"Some of our members held a
stakeholders meeting in Port
Harcourt last week and asked for
the disbandment of the current
BoT and management of the institute
as well as the suspension
of the constitution, these are serious
issues that can only be resolved
at an AGM.
Coincindentally, most of the people
who attended that meeting
are not members as it is not all
stakeholders that are members of
the Institute. And as Board committed
to advancement of the profession
and the rule of law, we
have decided to call for an AGM
where the issues raised will be
discussed by the generality of
members and resolution passed."
