LYNN TECH
Tech seeks to put KIPP
in the eye of the tiger
By Ryan VeRmette
Item news edItoR
The fourth installment of the Lynn Tech
Tigers and KIPP Panthers Thanksgiving Day
matchup is shaping up to be a good one, and
an important one for Tech. A 38-12 win by
KIPP last year gave the Panthers a slim 2-1
lead in the series, and the Tigers will try to
pull out a victory to even things up in this
battle of wildcats.
Lynn Tech won the inaugural matchup in
2018 by a score of 24-6. KIPP took the next
two with ease, however. The Panthers shut
out the Tigers in 2019, 25-0. In the Covid-2
season in 2021, the annual matchup was put
on pause before resuming in the fall of 2021,
where KIPP ran right through Lynn Tech.
Lynn Tech dropped its season opener to
Essex Tech by a score of 28-14, but went
on to win two in a row. The Tigers blew out
Minuteman Regional 47-0 before beating the
Whittier Wildcats 28-12 – the first time since
2010.
It was a promising 2-1 start for the Tigers,
but the team has dropped five straight coming
into this contest and finished with a record of
2-6. After its second loss of the season against
Nashoba Valley, Lynn Tech lost a highscoring
affair against Tech Boston Academy,
38-21. Two more losses to Manchester Essex
and Greater Lowell Tech ensued, but the
Tigers still wound up making the playoffs,
but fell to Blue Hills by a score of 40-14.
It was a disappointing end to a season
that started very well for Head Coach James
Runner’s squad, but a win
against KIPP in this
newly generated rivalry
would lift the teams’
spirit significantly.
The Panthers enter this
game with a 6-4 record
and are fresh off of a
deep playoff run. There’s no
question that KIPP will be
ready, but Lynn Tech will
have a little more rest than
its opponent.
In a rivalry matchup with
as little sample size as this one,
anything can happen, and both
sides should expect the unexpected
when they face off Wednesday night at
7 p.m at the Manning Bowl.
