When I came to serve as principal<br />
at Wheaton Academy in 2006,<br />
a friend of mine asked how<br />
I felt about leaving the school where I<br />
was serving to “join the Yankees.” From<br />
a distance, this friend of mine perceived<br />
Wheaton Academy as a school with a<br />
successful yet storied history similar to<br />
that of the New York Yankees. While<br />
Wheaton Academy has been richly<br />
blessed over the years, many in our<br />
community may not be aware of the hard<br />
times in the early and mid-1970s that<br />
almost resulted in the permanent closing<br />
of our school.<br />
As we celebrate the Academy’s birthday<br />
each year on December 14, remembering<br />
God’s faithfulness to us over the years is so<br />
important. Few Christian schools in the<br />
United States have been around for as long<br />
as Wheaton Academy—it will be 169 years<br />
in December—and few have remained<br />
true to their original mission as we have.<br />
As you read this issue of <strong>Connection</strong>, I trust<br />
that you will enjoy reflections from our<br />
alumni that highlight God’s work in their<br />
lives through some of the most challenging<br />
times we have faced as a school.<br />
Understanding Wheaton Academy’s<br />
history and God’s faithfulness through<br />
hardship and uncertainty is an excellent<br />
reminder that our successes today are a<br />
gift for which none of us can boast. At this<br />
time of year when we celebrate the birth<br />
of Christ and our salvation in Him, we are<br />
reminded of His grace for which none of<br />
us can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For it<br />
is by grace you have been saved, through<br />
faith—and this is not from yourselves,<br />
it is the gift of God— not by works so<br />
that no one can boast.” As we approach<br />
this <strong>Christmas</strong> season, we celebrate this<br />
common bond of God’s gift of grace<br />
through Christ Jesus.<br />
I may have come to join “the Yankees”<br />
of Christian education, but I am keenly<br />
aware that this is God’s team for which<br />
I play. I look back with admiration and<br />
great awe of those in Wheaton Academy’s<br />
history who trusted God to carry them<br />
through the most challenging times. Their<br />
faith and courage were remarkable; I am<br />
thankful for them, and I am thankful to<br />
each of you—for your continued support,<br />
encouragement, and prayer for us as we<br />
seek to nurture growth in students through<br />
relationships, excellence, and service to the<br />
glory of God!<br />

Boys Golf Wraps Up <strong>2022</strong><br />
Season at State Finals<br />
Congratulations to the<br />
Wheaton Academy<br />
Boys Golf team on an<br />
outstanding season.<br />
Undefeated in conference play, the<br />
team went on to earn first place in the<br />
regional competition before advancing<br />
to the IHSA 2A Sectionals Tournament.<br />
The season concluded as 4 members<br />
of the team represented WA at the<br />
IHSA 2A State Finals, held October<br />
7-8 at Weibring Golf Club in Normal,<br />
Illinois. Sam Dykema ’23, Wyatt<br />
Brown ’23, Freddie Chan ’24, and Joe<br />
Luchtenburg ’24 each qualified for the<br />
state’s individual competition. At the<br />
culmination of the 2-day event, Sam<br />
Dykema posted a point total of 148,<br />
earning him a spot on the All-State team.<br />

Finnegan finished his WA soccer career<br />
as 3rd all-time in shutouts and helped<br />
lead the team to a fourth-place finish<br />
in the Class 1A IHSA State Soccer<br />

Finnegan made his mark on the<br />
football field this season as well. As<br />
the Academy’s special teams field goal<br />
kicker, Finnegan averaged six points a<br />
game and was named to the MSC All-<br />

children as we navigate cultural hot topics such as identity,<br />
substance abuse, LGBTQ issues, and more. This will be an<br />

Pausing to remember the faithfulness of God<br />

As Christians around the world<br />
prepare to celebrate the birth of our<br />
Savior, we wanted to pause amid<br />
the holiday activities and reflect on God’s<br />
faithfulness both to Wheaton Academy and<br />
in the individual lives of Academy alumni.<br />
Why is it so important to stop and remember God’s<br />
faithfulness? One reason is that we tend to be quick to forget<br />
His goodness. Our forgetfulness can happen at any time, but it is<br />
especially easy to get caught up in the frenzy of the holidays and<br />
fail to acknowledge gratitude for God’s constancy.<br />
The word remember appears more than 200 times in the Bible.<br />
God commands us to remember His mighty deeds and to praise<br />
His name.<br />
Here are some reflections from the classes of 1972 and 1967<br />
who celebrated their 50-year and 55-year reunions at<br />
Homecoming <strong>2022</strong>. They were asked to share their thoughts<br />
and observations on God’s faithfulness in their lives and His<br />
faithfulness to the Academy.<br />
“Give praise to the Lord,<br />
proclaiming His name;<br />
make known among<br />
the nations what He<br />
has done. Sing to Him,<br />
sing praise to Him; tell<br />
of all His wonderful<br />
acts. Glory in His holy<br />
name; let the hearts<br />
of those who seek<br />
the Lord rejoice. Look<br />
to the Lord and His<br />
strength; seek His<br />
face always. Remember<br />
the wonders He has<br />
done, His miracles,<br />
and the judgments He<br />
pronounced.”<br />

VandeVusse<br />
Having been a member of<br />
what I believe was one of the<br />
smallest graduating classes in<br />
the Academy’s history, it was<br />
not hard for me to imagine<br />
that the school would not<br />
last much longer. It is wonderful now to see<br />
how wrong I was! God’s faithfulness has been<br />
demonstrated through the prayers and sacrifices<br />
of generations of WA staff, faculty, and families.<br />
This has been a lesson slowly learned in my life<br />
as well, but with the retrospect of 60+ years, I am<br />
becoming ever more aware of His perfect timing<br />
and magnificent plan.<br />
David Gieser ’67<br />
I will never forget that<br />
moment as a freshman sitting<br />
in the chapel left of the pulpit,<br />
third row, fifth seat from the<br />
center aisle. Years earlier, I had<br />
made a commitment to follow<br />
Jesus, but deep inside I knew<br />
it was shallow. The speaker (if only I could recall<br />
his name) explained salvation in such a way that<br />
it all clicked more deeply and profoundly than<br />
ever before and with my head bowed, I raised<br />
my hand. My life changed that day. To Wheaton<br />
Academy I remain in debt for providing an<br />
education focused on Jesus Christ, anchored in<br />
Biblical truth.<br />

Robert Fetterhoff ’72<br />
It’s impossible to describe the incredible<br />
faithfulness of God without thinking of<br />
Lamentations 3:22-23—“Because of the<br />
Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for<br />
his compassions never fail. They are new<br />
every morning; great is your faithfulness.” I<br />
think it’s interesting that God’s faithfulness<br />
is linked in these verses to His compassion. That’s where I’ve<br />
experienced His faithfulness the most. When I’ve deserved it<br />
the least, our Faithful God has demonstrated His compassion<br />
in responding to my own rebellion and sin. “He does not treat<br />
us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities”<br />
(Psalm 103:10). Perhaps most of all, I love these words: “If<br />
we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown<br />
himself” (2 Timothy 2:13).<br />
As I reflect on what God has done at Wheaton Academy in<br />
the last 50 years, I’m just amazed! When I was a student, the<br />
school lacked adequate facilities, struggled for enrollment, and<br />
barely survived. In fact, each year there were rumors it might<br />
even close. But it did not close! God brought “life from the<br />
ashes,” and WA is thriving today. Only God in His faithfulness<br />
could do that! He deserves the praise.<br />
Holly (Maynard ’72) Jenkins<br />
The class of ’72 experienced dark years at<br />
Wheaton Academy, but God was faithful.<br />
We experienced a loss in enrollment,<br />
change in school name, sports teams losing<br />
more than winning, and six headmasters in<br />
four years. But God saw us through with<br />
a faithful board, loving faculty, parental<br />
support, incredible friendships, and costs being covered by<br />
anonymous donors! My four years at WA were God-given,<br />
showed me God’s love, and prepared me for the next 50 years<br />
of my life! “Great is Thy Faithfulness!”<br />
Sharon (Uzelac ’67) Abbate<br />
As I reflect upon God’s faithfulness in<br />
my life, I’m in awe of His presence and<br />
provision. A serious car accident in my 20s,<br />
divorce and cancer diagnosis in my 40s,<br />
and health challenges that have followed<br />
are a few examples of where my physical,<br />
emotional, and spiritual needs were met in<br />
ways that only He could have orchestrated.<br />
I love Isaiah 61:3 “...to bestow on them a crown of beauty<br />
instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and<br />
a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”<br />
Dave Terhune ’67<br />
I owe so much to the faithfulness of<br />
Wheaton Academy faculty shaping my<br />
understanding of the faith during the<br />
cultural tumult of the 60s. The example of<br />
young teachers sold out for the Kingdom<br />
of God—Tom Fulghum, Don Heykoop,<br />
Mark Hanchett, Tom Jarman, Dave<br />
Klopfenstein, Jack Gill, and so many more— have been like<br />
pillars of fire for over 55 years, guiding through the inevitable<br />
challenges and complexities of life.<br />
Wheaton Academy is one of the few schools, or institutions of<br />
any kind, whose goals and objectives have not changed since<br />
1853 as documented in the Wheaton Academy history book,<br />
Celebrating God’s Unfolding Story. There is a “cloud of witnesses”<br />
dating back over 160 years whose character and life’s work<br />
testify to God’s faithfulness to all generations.<br />
We must not forget what God has done in our<br />
lives and in the long history of the Academy.<br />

Rich Aram ’72<br />
While at the Academy, I never would have<br />
expected my career or most of the other<br />
events that have happened in my life.<br />
My job provided some interesting travel<br />
opportunities, including teaching people<br />
from many different countries. My family<br />
shared in most of that and built many<br />
international friendships. The Lord walked with us through the<br />
good times and the tough times as well, such as Sarah dying from<br />
leukemia after 34 good years of marriage.<br />
Wheaton Academy survived the “Dark Ages” because God<br />
wanted to use this ministry and because quiet heroes of the faith<br />
served through difficult years. Our teachers served the Lord<br />
beautifully through years of bad pay, bad facilities, changing<br />
administrations, plus the usual challenges of dealing with young<br />
adults. Some board members trusted the Lord and made big<br />
sacrifices and kept the school running to give us a great education.<br />
David Stockman ’72<br />
God has been wonderful to my family and<br />
me. During the 2021 winter freeze in Texas,<br />
we experienced a miracle. Our pipes burst,<br />
and the situation seemed hopeless as I was<br />
the 800th person on the list of the only<br />
plumber who answered the phone. Stores<br />
for 80 miles around were sold out of the<br />
pipes we needed. God was good. Our neighbors just happened to<br />
have the right pipes, giving them to us after we prayed.<br />
I remember during my time at Wheaton Academy that I was<br />
told that the school would be closing that next year. However,<br />
several of the board members had just so much love for the<br />
school that they kept the school going. The Bible says Christians<br />
shall be known by their love. When I returned to campus for<br />
my 50-year reunion, I saw how God has blessed this school in so<br />
many ways. Praise the Lord for His provision for new buildings<br />
and a thriving student body.<br />
One of the common themes of alumni<br />
stories is the lasting impact of faculty and<br />
staff on the lives of Academy students.<br />
The impact was so profound that memories<br />
of their Academy days remain vivid for<br />
decades. Many of these alumni were<br />
boarding students, as Wheaton College<br />
Academy (WCA) offered room and board<br />
through the early 1970s. One boarder<br />
was Alma (Gordon ’55) Dole. Her story<br />
is representative of other alumni. Alma<br />
attended the Academy for her junior and<br />
senior year while her parents served as<br />
medical missionaries in the interior of Brazil.<br />

Being a missionary kid (M.K.)<br />
is a blessing and a challenge. I<br />
experienced the blessings as a<br />
child growing up in Brazil, but I<br />
faced the challenge of remaining<br />
in the States while my parents<br />
returned to Brazil. What did WCA<br />
do with a homesick gal whose heart and ways were<br />
totally foreign? They blessed me. Even today, as an<br />
octogenarian, I praise our wondrous Lord for Miss<br />
Chapman, the front desk registrar, who took me under<br />
her wing, befriended me, and helped me through the<br />
dark, lonely hours; for Mr. Benjamin for his kindness<br />
in choir and for Mrs. Benjamin who lovingly adopted<br />
me, even surprising me with new clothes to supplement<br />
my limited wardrobe; for Mr. “J” (Mel Johnson) whose<br />
lively biology classes and labs enthralled me; for Mr.<br />
and Mrs. Kullberg who, in God’s perfect timing, would<br />
give me a word of encouragement or an invitation for a<br />
meal and prayer. How faithful is our Lord! After 42 years<br />
serving Him as missionaries to Brazil, my husband and<br />
I retired. Our new mission field is Heath Village, a<br />
retirement community in New Jersey.<br />
He has seen us through difficult days. He has provided for our needs. He has been faithful. <strong>Christmas</strong> is a reminder<br />
that the God of Israel kept His Old Testament covenants and will keep His promise of a new covenant in Jesus<br />
Christ. We can put our trust in Him as we anticipate the future when Jesus returns, not as a babe in<br />
a manger but as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Merry <strong>Christmas</strong>, Wheaton Academy community!<br />

Testimonies Reveal<br />
the Character of God<br />
Who doesn’t love a good story? It conveys<br />
meaning, entertains, and even inspires. It is to<br />
be shared and enjoyed. But when a story gives<br />
glory to the Lord and tells of God’s faithfulness, it becomes<br />
so much more than just a story; it becomes a testimony.<br />
And testimonies have power. They touch the heart, stir<br />
the spirit, and change lives.<br />
Preaching to the Israelites in Deuteronomy 4:9, Moses delivers a stern warning to<br />
God’s people: “Be very careful never to forget what you have seen God doing for you.<br />
May his miracles have a deep and permanent effect on your lives. Tell your children<br />
and your grandchildren about the glorious miracles he has done.” In essence, Moses is<br />
saying your testimony is not just for you.<br />
Testimonies are God’s revelation of Himself to us. The remembrances shared by<br />
alumni from the classes of 1967 and 1972 remind us of the countless ways our<br />
Academy experiences have been woven into each of our personal testimonies. And<br />
when knowledge of the divine and unchanging character of God’s faithfulness is<br />
revealed to the next generation through our testimonies, their faith is nourished and<br />
strengthened.<br />
On the pages that follow, we recognize those who have faithfully supported us in<br />
our commitment to help each student develop a personal, vibrant, and growing<br />
relationship with Jesus Christ. In the years to come when our students reflect on<br />
their time at Wheaton Academy, we pray they are able to confidently proclaim<br />
His greatness, power, and faithfulness as evident in their own lives. Thank you for<br />
your role in making the testimony and impact of Wheaton Academy a reality. Your<br />
partnership is greatly appreciated.<br />

Outing returned once again to the beautiful and challenging<br />
Stonebridge Country Club in Aurora, Illinois. This event,<br />
held each September, serves to remember the life of former<br />
WA student, Todd Beamer ’87, and his heroic actions on<br />
9/11 as well as raise funds used to provide need-based student<br />
scholarships. Be sure to save the date for next year’s event on<br />
Monday, September 11, 2023. This event is open to the entire<br />

Tax Credit Opportunity<br />
for Illinois Residents<br />
In August of 2017, the Illinois Legislature<br />
passed Senate Bill 1947, allowing individuals to<br />
direct their state tax liability to a scholarship<br />
granting organization (SGO). The SGO then<br />
directs those dollars to a qualifying private<br />
school of the taxpayer’s choice. In turn,<br />
the taxpayer receives a 75% tax credit. As a<br />
qualifying private school, Wheaton Academy<br />
has been the recipient of nearly $5M in<br />
redirected funds. Those funds, earmarked<br />
by law to be used for eligible students, have<br />
provided scholarship dollars for many of our<br />
students who would otherwise be unable to<br />
attend Wheaton Academy. As an IL taxpayer,<br />
you are not only providing financially for<br />
students, but you are also benefiting from<br />
your participation by receiving a 75% tax credit<br />
on your <strong>2022</strong> taxes.<br />

to issue up to $75M in tax credits in <strong>2022</strong>.<br />

Class Ambassadors<br />
The launch of the reimagined Alumni Board is happening<br />
this year. One of the tasks of the newly configured board<br />
is the recruitment of class ambassadors. These class<br />
ambassadors are alumni who agree to serve their class and<br />
alma mater to promote the mission of the WA Alumni<br />
Association and the school. Class ambassadors will be the<br />
conduit from their classmates to the Academy via the Alumni<br />
Office and the Alumni Board. We are looking for alumni<br />
who are willing to maintain communication with their<br />
classmates and to share class updates (address changes, prayer<br />
requests, career updates, deaths, etc.) with the Director of<br />
Alumni Relations, Dawn Earl.<br />

The goal of the Alumni Board, with the help of the class<br />
ambassadors, is to gather and share alumni stories. We<br />
believe these stories will encourage and strengthen the<br />
Academy community and the Academy itself. Why do we<br />
think this? Because God is doing amazing things through the<br />
lives of our alumni! And we want to share your God stories.<br />
Many classes already have “unofficial” ambassadors, the<br />
person who is the natural networker among his or her<br />
classmates. These alumni are invaluable to the Academy<br />
because they help us stay connected with the extended<br />
community. With the advent of the class ambassadors<br />
program, we will officially recognize the efforts of these<br />
faithful servants along with welcoming others to join their<br />
ranks.<br />

Celebrating God’s Faithfulness and Goodness<br />
The members of the class of <strong>2022</strong> are attending 76 different colleges<br />
in 32 states across the country and the District of Columbia.<br />
These students were awarded $7,985,450 in academic, leadership, and<br />
athletic scholarships. Eight students were named National Merit Commended<br />

1949 | 1951<br />
On September 6, 1952, Gene LeMaire ’49<br />
and Carolyn Stevenson ’51 were the first<br />
couple wed in the Academy’s Alumni<br />
Chapel. These beloved Academy<br />
teachers recently celebrated their<br />
70th anniversary surrounded by their<br />
five children—Holly, Sandy ’75, David<br />
’78, Aimee ’81, and Marc ’84—and<br />
their spouses, along with numerous<br />
grandkids and great-grandchildren.<br />
Gene’s and Carolyn’s lives are<br />
intertwined with the extended<br />
Academy community, and they have<br />
been blessed to serve in jobs they<br />
loved.<br />
1972 | 2005<br />
When Gary Knosp ’72 and his wife<br />
Carol visited Williamsburg, Virginia,<br />
this summer to celebrate their 40th<br />
wedding anniversary, they selected<br />
a bed and breakfast named The<br />
Cedars. Much to their surprise, they<br />
discovered they shared an Academy<br />
connection with the owners of the<br />
inn, Academy sweethearts Alex ’05<br />
and Laura (Kelley ’05) Vlk. Alex and Laura<br />
were married in 2009 and moved<br />
to Williamsburg in 2012. Alex’s love<br />
of history started on the colonial<br />
streets of this historic town. The Vlks<br />
acquired The Cedars in 2016, fulfilling<br />
a lifelong dream of Laura’s to run<br />
a bed and breakfast. The couple<br />
seems to have found their niche as<br />

1977<br />
After 35 years in management in<br />
the business world, Ed Wolbert ’77’s<br />
retirement turned into ministry work<br />
for Samaritan’s Purse. There are<br />
now four Wheaton Academy alumni<br />
working at the Samaritan’s Purse<br />
center in Aurora, Illinois. Pictured<br />

1981 | 1984<br />
They fought like cats and dogs when<br />
they were young, but today these<br />
two sisters are business partners,<br />
neighbors, and friends. Their sewing<br />
machines face each other, and they<br />
talk all day long as they labor in love<br />
creating one-of-a-kind winter gear.<br />
Wendy (Gieser ’81) Partain and Susie<br />
(Gieser ’84) Cassel are the masterminds<br />
behind LucyBlue Knits, which they<br />
started in 2007. LucyBlue Knits<br />
are environmentally conscious,<br />
uniquely repurposed, and focused<br />
on creativity. Their pieces reflect their<br />
commitment, as their mittens and<br />
scarves are beautiful and functional.<br />

1988<br />
Jori (Senter ’88) Susanka and her<br />
husband Dan renewed their marriage<br />
vows recently in a private ceremony<br />
in Hawaii. Their 16-year-old daughter<br />
Emmy was the maid of honor and<br />
read Ephesians 3:20, the family verse.<br />
Eight-year-old son JunJun was the<br />
best man and did double duty as the<br />
ring bearer. This ceremony celebrated<br />
the couple’s 20th anniversary, delayed<br />
due to the pandemic. “Great is Thy<br />
Faithfulness,” the hymn sung at their<br />
wedding, remains a true testament to<br />
the Lord’s hand on their life together.<br />

1998<br />
Bethany Rooks ’98, one of the finest<br />
two-sport athletes in College of<br />
DuPage history, was inducted into<br />
the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in<br />
June <strong>2022</strong>. Bethany played a starring<br />
role on three national championship<br />
teams and helped win four Region<br />
4 titles and compete at the national<br />
tournaments. She won consecutive<br />
All-American volleyball honors<br />
after leading the Chaparrals to the<br />
1998 and 1999 NJCAA III national<br />
championships. She was the national<br />
tourney MVP her freshman season<br />
and led the nation in kills/sets as a<br />
sophomore. Her 1999 basketball team<br />
won the Region 4 title and finished<br />
fourth at nationals. The following year,<br />
she was a featured player on the 2000<br />
national championship team and<br />
earned second-team All-American<br />
honors. Bethany is the daughter of<br />
Edie (Tameling ’64) and Foster Rooks.<br />

2003<br />
As a missionary kid growing up in<br />
Argentina and Ecuador, Ashleigh<br />
Dellos ’03 was exposed to the world<br />
at a young age. When her family<br />
returned from the mission field in<br />
2000, Ashleigh attended Wheaton<br />
Academy for her last three years<br />
of high school. WA blessed her<br />
with a rich community and a firm<br />
foundation with the Lord. Now,<br />
she has the privilege of working<br />
for a study abroad program, Living<br />
and Learning International (L & L).<br />
Growing up overseas gave her a<br />
heart for the world and a passion for<br />
seeing students engage with other<br />
cultures. At L & L, the mission is to see<br />
students live in community, engage<br />
the challenges of the world, and<br />
learn how to respond with a biblical<br />
Christian worldview. This goal is<br />
accomplished through discipleship,<br />
academics, and adventures.<br />
Partnering with Christian colleges<br />
all over the country, Ashleigh’s role<br />
is to place students at one of the<br />
organization’s locations. Her reward<br />
is to see students’ lives changed<br />
after they spend time abroad in this<br />

2008<br />
This smiley guy is Thomas Scott<br />
Rougas III, the son of Scott Rougas<br />
’08 and his wife, Christine. Scott is<br />
the assistant controller for Transdev<br />
North America in Lombard, Illinois.<br />
In that role, he is involved in financial<br />
planning and analysis. Christine works<br />
part-time for North DuPage Special<br />
Education Cooperative and nannies<br />
part-time, so she can be home most<br />
days with Tommy. Scott and Christine<br />
love their new life as Tommy’s parents<br />
and are excited about their family’s<br />
future as they follow the Lord’s will.<br />
2014<br />
ALUMNOTES<br />
After three years and a global<br />
pandemic, Alyssa (Pell ’14) Budzisz<br />
earned a doctorate of nurse practice<br />
focused on family medicine with<br />
a subspecialty in palliative care<br />
from the University of Alabama<br />
at Birmingham in August. While<br />
working on this degree, Alyssa<br />
worked as a pediatric bone marrow<br />
and oncology nurse at Duke<br />
University Hospital in North Carolina.<br />
Her goal is to become a palliative<br />
care nurse practitioner and to use<br />
her training to help patients with<br />
chronic health conditions manage<br />
pain and improve their quality of life.<br />
She would love to serve veterans. Her<br />
long-term plan is to gain more clinical<br />
experience and become a professor.<br />
She is trusting the Lord to open doors<br />
where He wants her. Alyssa and her<br />
husband, Jerry ’12, reside in Raleigh,<br />
North Carolina.<br />

2014<br />
Matthew Hamm ’14 and Emma Camillone<br />
were married on July 29, <strong>2022</strong>, at<br />
Providence Vineyard in Hebron, IL.<br />
Accompanying Matthew as some of<br />
his groomsmen were Charlie Hamm<br />
’12, Drew English ’14, Ethan Klepitsch<br />
’14, Theo Selvaggio ’14, and James<br />
Drury ’14. Matthew’s sister, Olivia ’20,<br />
was one of Emma’s bridesmaids. The<br />
couple currently lives in Wheaton,<br />
where Matthew works as a sales<br />
representative for Tegus, a financial<br />
technology company. Emma is a 6thgrade<br />
teacher at Timothy Christian<br />
Schools in Elmhurst, Illinois, teaching<br />
math, science, and Bible.<br />
2016<br />
Ty Seager ’16 and Ingrid Prichard ’16 met<br />
in 6th grade at Wheaton Christian<br />
Grammar School, and as they went<br />
on to Wheaton Academy, their<br />
friendship continued. They both<br />
participated in sports, Project LEAD,<br />
traveled on the same Winterim<br />
trips, and shared the same friend<br />
group. Ty attended Northwestern<br />
(IL) to study communications and<br />
marketing. Ingrid headed to Biola<br />
University (CA) to study public<br />
relations and Bible. They stayed in<br />
touch and began dating the summer<br />
before their senior year. They were<br />
married at Providence Vineyard in<br />
Hebron, IL, on June 12, <strong>2022</strong>. Ty and<br />
Ingrid recently moved to Oceanside,<br />
CA. Ty is a marketing manager at a<br />
tech company, and Ingrid works in<br />
marketing for Wheaton Christian<br />
Grammar School! The newlyweds<br />
are grateful for their time at WA, the<br />
lifelong friendships it provided them,<br />
and how their faith flourished and<br />
biblical knowledge grew.<br />
2017<br />
Jacob Kainer ’17 graduated from<br />
Olivet Nazarene University in May<br />
with a degree in biology. This past<br />
summer, he completed U.S. Army<br />
Cadet Command Advanced Camp<br />
at Fort Knox (KY). In August, he was<br />
officially commissioned as a Second<br />
Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He will<br />
continue his military career in the<br />
Illinois National Guard, reporting for<br />
specialized training at the U.S. Army<br />
Quartermaster School at Fort Lee in<br />
Virginia. Jacob is pictured here with<br />
his parents, Lisa, an Academy teacher,<br />

High school sweethearts Cooper<br />
Williams ’17 and Maddy Burdett ’17<br />
exchanged vows on June 11, <strong>2022</strong>,<br />
in a beautiful ceremony in Lake<br />
Geneva, Wisconsin. The wedding<br />
party was filled with family of the<br />
bride and groom and Academy<br />
friends. Attendants and groomsmen<br />

1985<br />
Joseph Sennese ’85 passed away on<br />
November 7, <strong>2022</strong>, surrounded<br />
by his loving family. Joe grew<br />
up working at his father’s paint<br />
company, Fancy Colours & Co. In<br />
2006, he brought his talents, work<br />
ethic, and industry knowledge<br />
to PPG Industries. Joe remained<br />
a part of the team during the<br />
transition from PPG to Vitro<br />
Architectural Glass. During his<br />
time at Vitro, Joe was able to<br />
teach, learn, and grow, and he<br />
formed many relationships<br />
along the way. Joe is survived<br />
by his loving wife, Shameem; his<br />
daughters, Grace and Hannah ’16;<br />
one grandson; and his brothers,<br />
James (Tonya) Sennese ’89 and Jason<br />
(Julianne) Sennese.<br />
