About a year after I wrote “Like Our Fathers Before Us,” I had the idea to perhaps write another
piece for wind ensemble. I contacted my contractor, Noah Gladstone, and he began putting
an ensemble together for later in the month. At the same time, I began assembling some of
the frameworks to this piece, Endeavor (I prefer to work under deadlines; even if selfimposed).
In this work, I just wanted some more practice writing in traditional tutti textures for
the wind ensemble. In my head, I sort of knew how a piece like this would sound if I had
orchestrated it for orchestra, but I was curious how a wind ensemble setting would sound.
Compositionally, there is nothing groundbreaking in this work; it is traditional in almost all
senses of the word, but is hopefully still an enjoyable piece to play and listen to.
