Reo’s death is a sad loss to the film industry, and he will be missed by many. Renowned as the “Grand-daddy” of South African stuntmen, Reo inducted, trained and mentored many of the local stunt people in the industry today. Reo was hugely instrumental in making the local stunt industry what it is today. He educated his trainees by drawing on his own experiences as a stuntman, second unit director and stunt co-ordinator. Reo’s own achievements were impressive, including two world records, which he held for many years. (He held the World Record tunnel of fire on a motorbike which appeared in the Guiness Book of World Records.) He pushed hard to raise the standard of stunt work in South Africa, and he has left a proud legacy. Reo loved what he did, and put his heart and soul into everything. He was a very good adviser, and would often put others before himself. Reo was always ready to lend a helping hand, and would do everything in his power to help others. Reo was also famous for his sense of humour, especially during those quiet times on set. He was the kind of person who would make everyone laugh so hard that they’d end up crying. The industry is privileged to have been given the opportunity to have worked with such an insightful person.
