MSOL program. Please get to know your advisor and communicate
with him or her openly and honestly. Not only will your advisor
help guide you through your concentration choices but can become
a valuable resource to you as you move forward in your career
What is a Grade Appeal?
Occasionally a student might not agree with a grade that is earned in a class. This is rare, but it does happen.
Keep in mind that simply “disagreeing with the professor” is not grounds for an appeal of a grade.
When a student has substantial grounds to dispute a final grade and is prepared to present evidence to support
a grade appeal, the student must initiate the procedure by speaking first with the professor who assigned
the grade in question. If there are no errors in the computation of the grade or other substantial evidence
to support an appeal, the student is encouraged to accept the grade assigned. However, in cases
where there are substantial grounds for a review of the grade and a resolution cannot be reached between
the student and the professor, the student need to follow the procedure outlined in the University Catalog
(under Grade Appeals). It is best to attempt to work out any issues with the professor before initiating the
grade appeal process.
teaching that class, and 3) judge your performance in that class. Each professor is different in style, personality,
How much work should I take on?
We strongly recommend MSOL students enroll in one three credit seven week course at a time. Of
course that depends on many factors. But history has taught us that most student success in learning
and achievement occurs when students are taking one class at a time.
What should I do if I feel overwhelmed?
Contact your advisor immediately! Don’t let it wait. It might be worth coming to campus and having a
cup of coffee, or tea with your advisor. We have watched hundreds of students succeed in the MSOL
program. But sometimes you need someone to talk to and some wise counsel. Give your advisor a call
and he/she can provide you with the support, advice, and of course listening ear, you must might need!
How much time is this going to take me?
Depending on the class topic, we have found that students need to set aside about 15 hours a week for
class participation, assignment completion, and reading/study. That, of course, depends on your own
study habits as well as your own interest and motivation in the class subject. It is also best not to
schedule important life events during a class term like a family holiday. If you know you have something
important coming up in your life, you may want to consult with the financial aid office and your
advisor about taking a certain term off from classes. Most student who take one class at a time com-
How do I register for classes
All Registration is done by the student on Campus Web. It is important to register for classes early as some c
ses fill up quickly! Check the Registrar’s calendar site for dates and deadlines for class registration. Or cont
your advisor who can guide you through the registration proce
Can I drop/add a class when already registered
There are very strict deadlines for dropping or adding a class and often this must be done with the permission a
signatures of your advisor and/or the department chair. These deadlines are in place because of Federal Finan
Aid regulations as well as the practical nature of these accelerated classes. Keep in mind that it is YOUR respo
bility to drop a class by a certain deadline so you do not incur a failing grade or financial charge. Check with
Registrar’s calendars site for a complete list of these deadlin
What happens when I drop a class when it ha
You may be financially charged for the class and/or your grade might be impacted if you don’t drop a class b
try to work with your professor to complete the course with a passing grade. You must earn a “C” or better in
classes and maintain a 3.0 CUM GPA in order to achieve graduation. In certain rare emergency situations
The Brenau Ideal
To find satisfaction in being rather than in seeming;
To find joy in doing rather than in dreaming;
To be prepared for service—thereby earning the
right to be served;
To be pure in heart, vigorous in mind, discreet in action;
To love deeply, fear nothing, hate never;
To enjoy that freedom which comes from knowledge
of the “Truth”;
To be modestly conscious of the limitations of human
knowledge and serenely confident of the limitless
reaches of human endeavor—this is the ideal of
