It will have been three years since Lin Ye wowed Sarasota audiences in two sold out programs. Having performed in prestigious venues worldwide, the former Artist Series Concerts prizewinner returns to Sarasota with a program of piano concertos by Chopin, Mozart, and Bach. Feder Duo—Cheryl Losey Feder, harp, and Abraham Feder, cello, will perform on April 9, 4 p.m. at Temple Sinai, 4631 S. Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota. Losey and Feder began their orchestral careers on the same day in 2008 as they both assumed principal positions in the Sarasota Orchestra. He introduced himself as she was tuning her harp, and the rest is history. He is now assistant principal cellist of the Detroit Symphony and she a sought-after soloist, chamber musician and recording artist. Choral Artists The Choral Artists of Sarasota has The Children’s March: An oratorio by Philadelphia composer Andrew Bleckner, which takes you on a journey to an historical event during the Civil Rights Era of the 1960s. Incorporating traditional African-American styles and spirituals, the work shows the incivility of segregation through the innocence and optimistic spirit of children. Guest artist: J. Information: www.Sarasota Orchestra.org. ▼ Sarasota Art Museum Sarasota Art Museum of Ringling College presents Richard Benson: The World Is Smarter Than You Are, on view through May 7. Benson was an American photographer, printer, and educator. Organized by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The World Is Smarter Than You Are is the first in-depth survey of Benson’s own photography. The exhibition includes approximately 100 works that convey Benson’s pathfinding exploration of photographic processes, his embrace of technologies old and new, and his deep empathy for his human subjects as well as the objects and environments they have built. Including prints from the late 1960s until shortly before Benson’s death in 2017, the exhibition traces his ever-evolving quest for prints. Benson was a gifted and celebrated teacher, was also a beloved professor and dean at Yale University. The Sarasota presentation of the exhibition includes a selection of artworks on paper by 10 notable artists who studied and worked with him at Yale: Dawoud Bey, Lois Conner, Jen Davis, An-My Lê, John Lehr, Andrea Modica, Arthur Ou, John Pilson, Caitlin Teal Price, and Sarah Stolfa. George will share prior work and discuss her goals for the new HMTA commission, as well as how she hopes it will help to build and enhance a sense of community. • Sofía Rocha, the 2022 recipient of the Hermitage Prize in Composition presented at the Aspen Music Festival and School, shares her original musical compositions as part of the Hermitage “Sunsets @ Selby Gardens” series in “Making Musical Waves.” Rocha grew up in Naples and has studied and presented work across the United States with noted ensembles such as JACK Quartet, DeCoda, loadbang, and Brentano String Quartet, among others. For this musical program on March 16 at 6:30 pm, the Hermitage is partnering with the Venice Symphony and the Pops Orchestra to offer live performances of this next-generation composer’s nuanced and evocative work, all with unique insights from the creator, set against the backdrop of the botanical gardens. Nearly all Hermitage programs are free and open to the public (with a $5/ person registration fee). Due to capacity limitations and social distancing, registration is required. • The Hermitage is also having “HER- MITAGE TURNS 20: Andy Sandberg & Broadway Friends in Concert” on March 20 at the Van Wezel. Hermitage Artistic Director and CEO Andy Sandberg takes to the stage to sing a concert alongside Broadway guest stars to celebrate the Hermitage’s 20th Anniversary Season and to raise funds for the Hermitage following the impact of Hurricane Ian. One of the greatest of Verdi’s early works, Ernani encompasses love, honor, and tragedy with passionate choruses, emotional arias, and an exciting score. March 11, 14, 16, 18(m), 22, and 26(m). • Thérèse by Jules Massenet. A love triangle during the French Revolution is the setting for this rarely heard work. Thérèse is torn between love for her former lover and her affection and duty towards her husband. Westbrook is a painter whose style leans toward impressionism, working primarily in pastel media. She is inspired by the places she has traveled to and lived, including Charleston, SC, Anna Maria and the Florida Panhandle. Terri discovered late in life her love and talent for creating. She has learned the basic principles of art and the nuances of pastel art only in recent years from online and in-person instruction. The focus of her paintings is primarily scenes in nature, particularly landscapes and waterscapes, with surprising use of color. Art Walk reception is on Friday, March 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
