In 2022 Craft ACT continued
with the successes of the donor
category, the Circle of Hands. This
category is directly associated
with the CO:LAB project which
is a culmination of professional
development, high-quality studio
practice, and a cross-collaboration
between industry and craft. This
project started in April 2022 and
will be exhibited in May 2023. We
thank the Circle of Hands donors,
Jenny Edwards, Peta Furnell,
Design Craft and the Humphries
Family Fund, for their continued
support of this project.
DESIGN Canberra
growth
DESIGN Canberra Festival
continued to grow in 2022;
expanding our audiences—
nationally and internationally—
providing meaningful experiences;
expanding on opportunities for
Craft ACT practitioners, and
contributing to the branding
of Canberra as a global city of
design. The Festival has been
on a growth trajectory since its
inception in 2014 and incurred
a practicable dip during the
pandemic in 2020 and 2021. In
2022, we recovered magnificently,
building on a strong foundation of
collaboration and innovative new
projects.
2022 saw the largest increase
across the board in the DESIGN
Canberra Festival history. The total
number of attendees increased
310% since 2019, with a 35%
increase in interstate visitors. More
than 1,061 artists and creatives
participated which is an increase
of 108% from previous years.
The Festival generated more
than $327,000 income for these
creatives with a 71% increase on
previous years.
The DESIGN Canberra Festival
continues to thrive thanks to
the generosity of our artists, our
supportive sponsors and partners
who have demonstrated their
commitment to our organisation
and the celebration of Canberra as
a global city of design. We thank
all of our sponsors at all levels
for their loyalty and contribution
to Craft ACT and the DESIGN
Canberra Festival to execute a
world class festival in 2022.
Sponsorship and self-generated
income accounts for 70% of the
Festival budget. Due to the support
from our partners, we were able
to deliver the DESIGN Canberra
Festival which contributes so
much to the future of our creative
industries. We extend our sincerest
gratitude to the following sponsors
who supported us in 2022
