Simon Quadrat
Simon’s paintings occupy a world of their own, offering no more
than an illusion of reality. Everything is ambivalent and unfixed,
giving the viewer enough information only to persuade us that the
scene in front of us might actually have happened. Thus time and
setting are not pinned down except they may be within the lived or
imagined experience of the artist himself, formless souvenirs. The
narrative is deliberately vague. If the viewer wishes to interpret what
is happening he or she must do so with little help from the artist.
After half a lifetime engaged in a profession where people were
put on trial and judged, these paintings offer an internalised world
where judgement is replaced with empathy tinged with melancholy.
Simon is a full time painter. His work is held in collections
throughout the UK and abroad. He is a past President of the
Royal West of England Academy and a member of the
New English Art Club. Simon has a deep love of classical music and
when not painting he plays the piano. Before becoming a painter
Simon was a member of the Criminal Bar.
