situation:1The gridal layout of New York City allows forcontinuous transformation, as it lacks distinctgeographical boundaries between its regions.Locally, this results in a perceived lack of acohesive identity. However, this also means thatthe city is a dynamic amalgamation ofconstantly evolving components, which definesthe essence of its culture and its inhabitants.2Although NYC’s layout seems uniform, thesignificance and density of its regions areinfluenced by various factors, including thecultural and economic backgrounds of itsresidents and the policies implemented by thelocal government. As a result, certain areas maybecome more vibrant and densely populatedthan others. The addition of a subway station tothe area near a bustling hub has acceleratedgentrification initiated by the Highline.3The perpetual nature of transformation in NewYork City is an inherent part of its identity, asperformance is a continuous process that nevertruly concludes.4The transformation of a city has a profoundimpact on its artistic community. Artists oftenfind themselves at the forefront of gentrificationin a new area, only to be displaced as theneighborhood becomes more affluent. This cycleof settling and then migrating to another part ofthe city leaves artists and creatives struggling tokeep up. In an ever-changing metropolis, thosewith financial power are the only ones who canmaintain a permanent foothold.123455Community centers in the city are dispersedthroughout various neighborhoods, offeringcitizens a platform to discuss local concerns.However, any changes that occur locally canhave a ripple effect on the city as a whole. Inorder to hold elected officials accountable andhave a greater impact on decision-making,people require a foundation for addressing bothlocal and city-wide issues.
