Ride Like a Girl, 2019, PG, 1 hour, 38 minutes
Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the
Melbourne Cup in 2015, came from a Catholic family
in regional Victoria. Her biopic, Ride Like a Girl,
features the ups and downs of her story, including
the support she received from her local Church
community and the faith of her family where she was
the youngest of 10 children. Director Rachel Griffiths,
a Catholic, whose uncle is Fr Andrew Hamilton SJ,
has said in interviews she aimed to present a realistic
portrayal of a Catholic family. With a cast of wellknown
Australian actors, look out for the real Stevie
Payne who plays himself in the movie.

Touch the Wounds, On Suffering, Trust, and
Transformation by Tomáš Halík
In this masterfully written book, Czech priest,
university pastor, psychotherapist and renowned
theologian Tomáš Halík calls upon Christians to
touch the wounds of the world and to rediscover
their own faith by loving and healing their neighbours.
