Hospice: The End of the Beginning: A Handbook for
Caregivers and Family Members
Sinopsis :
The major goal of this work is to help anyone who is a
caregiver or family member of a hospice patient deal in a
creative and compassionate way with the many challenges the
role involves. It outlines in detail just what hospice is, what to
expect when a loved one is admitted to a hospice program and
how to deal with the many unexpected twists and turns
encountered on the hospice journey. These include the
physical, emotional and spiritual issues faced by the patient,
caregiver and family members. Each chapter focuses on a
specific topic, including but not limited to the role of the
hospice team, the levels of hospice care, how to deal with the
patient's ever-changing needs, caring for the caregiver, what to
do in an emergency, estate planning and prayers for the dying.
It also includes a chapter on Pediatric Hospice. The use of real
life examples at the beginning of each chapter help you realize
you are not alone. Many of those who preceded you have
faced the same or very similar challenges. The book also
includes a list of many professional and helpful resources
including links to their websites. An underlying theme of this
book is to provide hope and reassurance to people of faith and
to suggest to non-believers: the end of this life is anything but
the end. It is quite simply a transition to a new state of being
far beyond anything we can imagine. The author was a
hospice RN for over ten years and his ultimate goal is to make
the patient's, caregiver's and family members' hospice
journeys easier.
