Since 2017, the HAKRO site in Schrozberg has been carbon neutral – 

and in 2022 we became the first corporate wear supplier to make 

our entire collection carbon neutral. It’s good for us ... and for 

the climate ... and for you.

Dressing responsibly! At our Schrozberg site, we started investing 

in clean energy at an early stage. Now our site largely 

self generates green electricity and boasts an extensive energy 

management system with battery storage. We operate our own 

combined heat and power plant. And our fleet will soon be 

completely combustion-free. 

We are also very resourceful when it comes to waste recycling 

and do not lose sight of the small steps amid bigger milestones. 

For example, we reuse cardboard packaging wherever possible. 

And of course, we have printed matter like this brochure 

produced in a carbon neutral way. And most importantly, we 

offset the carbon footprint of our entire collection.

TEXTILE 

GLOSSARY. 

Technical terms in the world of textiles are not 

always the same thing. For some, they are part of 

their daily lexicon while others may only understand 

the term “fabric”. This is where our little 

glossary of HAKRO terms can help. And if there’s 

anything that’s still not clear, we’ll be happy to 

help of course. 


Anti-pilling finish 

Fabric treatment to prevent the formation of 

lint. See also “Microfleece”. 

Breathable 

A fabric is breathable if it is permeable to 

water vapour from the inside out, and the 

degree of breathability is defined by the MVTR 

value (moisture vapour transmission rate). 

This value indicates the amount of water that 

can evaporate through a square meter of 

fabric within 24 hours. The higher the amount, 

the greater the breathability of the textile. 

Buttons 

HAKRO buttons are made of unbreakable, 

3 mm thick high-performance polyester. They 

are permanently sewn with a special lock 

stitch process. See also “Lock stitch process”. 

Clever Care 

An initiative of the International Association 

for Textile Care Labelling (GINETEX) regarding 

washing, drying and ironing as well as professional 

textile care. 

COOLMAX PRO 

This high-tech functional material from “The 

LYCRA Company” optimally regulates body 

heat: its special four- or six-channel fibers 

transport moisture directly to the fabric surface, 

where it evaporates extremely quickly. 

For maximum comfort, we only use the 

highest performance level COOLMAX PRO in 

our products. 

Cotton 

The quality of a cotton depends mainly on 

the fiber length. In the textile industry, this 

is called the “staple length”. The longer 

this vegetable fiber is, the finer and more 

tear-resistant the cotton is. HAKRO only uses 

long-staple, combed and ring spun-cotton. 

Double-face material 

Refers to a fabric with two different materials 

for the inside and the outside. 

HAKRO COTTON TEC 

A so-called double-face material in which the 

outside consists of particularly fine cotton and 

the inside of the functional fiber TRIACTIVE. 

As the material quickly transports moisture to 

the outside of the fabric, it is temperatureregulating. 

Interlock 

A stretchy, double-faced knitted fabric showing 

only right-hand stitches on both sides of 

the fabric. 

Knitwear 

Knitted goods are knitted garments, which are 

thicker, heavier and more heat-insulating than 

woven fabrics or warp-knitted textiles. An 

elastic right-left knit is formed by the production 

of meshes using a thread or yarn and two or 

more needles. 

Lock stitch procedure 

Our buttons are sewn on using the so-called 

lock stitch method. Both the button and the 

knot are secured for maximum durability.

Long-staple 

Refers to the length of cotton fibers and is 

considered a quality criterion. The longer 

the fibers of the cotton plant, the higher the 

quality of the fabric. HAKRO uses high-quality, 

long-staple cotton. See also “Cotton”. 

LYCRA 

High-quality material spandex from “The 

LYCRA Company” has an extremely high elasticity 

and equally high elastic recovery. 

Membranes in textiles 

A membrane is a special layer that is firmly 

bonded to the back of an outer fabric. 

Membranes ensure the wearing comfort 

and breathability of functional clothing. 

They protect against external moisture, but 

allow water vapour to escape. Compared to 

coatings, membranes are robust, abrasionresistant 

and therefore more durable. 

Merino wool 

The merino wool used by HAKRO is an animal 

fiber that is particularly fine, does not scratch 

and has a soft feel. It has an even stitch pattern, 

offers a high level of wearing comfort 

and can be washed at 30°C. 

Microfleece 

The velvety-soft, very dense material made of 

100% polyester is extremely light, warming,

of wearing comfort. Microfleece textiles from 

HAKRO are particularly easy to care for and 

have an additional anti-pilling finish. See also

MIKRALINAR 

The hypo-allergenic functional blend 

MIKRALINAR developed especially for HAKRO 

combines the advantages of cotton with the 

strengths of a special high-performance polyester. 

It absorbs moisture well and transports 

it quickly to the outside. Materials made 

from MICRALINAR are suitable for industrial 

laundering and leasing, and are particularly 

hard-wearing and tear-resistant while retaining 

their shape. Due to their extra breathability, 

they offer a high level of comfort. 

MIKRALINAR ECO 

MIKRALINAR ECO is definitely the softest 

MIKRALINAR experience you can imagine. 

Yet it is just as robust and reliably reproducible 

as our popular original MIKRALINAR. But 

with MIKRALINAR ECO we use recycled polyester 

according to GRS, the Global Recycled 

Standard. 

MIKRALINAR PRO 

In addition to the advantages of MIKRALINAR, 

MIKRALINAR PRO is yarn-dyed with waterinsoluble 

vat dyes, boil-proof at 95°C, chlorineand 

UV-resistant and thus ideally suited for 

professions with special hygienic requirements 

or extreme degrees of soiling. 


MIKRALINAR PRO ECO 

With MIKRALINAR PRO ECO we use polyester 

in combination with TENCEL lyocell fibers 

from Lenzing. They are made from sustainably 

produced wood where the required solvent is 

recovered and reused. The fibers are known 

for their high strength properties and breathability. 

For MIKRALINAR PRO ECO we use a 

water-insoluble vat dye. It is the first TENCEL 

polyester knitted fabric suitable for industrial 

laundering, certified according to the Hohenstein 

“tested workwear – suitable for leasing” 

quality standard. 

Multi-layer laminates 

All jackets equipped with a membrane consist 

of at least two layers of different materials. 

With two-layer laminates, the jacket has 

an additional light lining on the inside that 

prevents direct contact with the membrane. 

With 2.5-layer laminates, the membrane is 

protected by another printed coating. With 

three-layer laminates, another layer of fabric, 

for example microfleece or mesh, is applied to 

the membrane instead of the printed coating. 

This third layer makes the multi-layer laminate 

particularly durable and comfortable to wear. 

Multi-layer laminates are 100% waterproof 

if the seams have been treated with an additional 

tape sealant after the garment has been 

made. Without this additional sealing, multi - 

layer laminates are merely water-repellent. 

Non-iron finish 

Blouses and shirts with a “non-iron finish” are 

easy to care for and can be worn immediately 

after washing and drying. Simply remove the 

residual moisture from clothes using a dryer 

and hang up to dry completely. 

Pima cotton 

A particularly high-quality type of cotton with 

long, fine fibers. Textiles made from Pima 

cotton have a smoother surface, are full to the 

touch and exceptionally soft. 

Piqué 

A knitted fabric with alternating raised and 

recessed areas. It has a “waffle” (piqué) 

appearance and is a classic material for polo 

shirts. 

Polyester fabrics 

Fabrics made of polyester are tear-resistant, 

lightweight and absorb almost no moisture. 

They also strike the correct balance 

between insulation, moisture transport, tear 

and abrasion resistance and are therefore 

currently the most commonly processed 

fabrics in the functional and sports clothing 

segment. Since polyester fibers are produced 

synthetically, there is a wide range of different 

fibers resulting in the right product for every 

requirement. The properties vary greatly and 

have an impact on the function, moisture 

transport and wearing comfort of the clothing.

shrinkage within fixed tolerances.

Tested care labelling for professional textile 

care, especially for commercial laundries.

Ripstop 

Particularly tear-resistant fabrics that are 

woven using a special technique. Thicker 

threads are integrated into the otherwise fine 

material at regular intervals. This makes the 

fabric particularly stable and tear-resistant. 

Single jersey 

Fine mesh, stretchy knitted fabric for outerwear. 

Softshell 

A combination of outer and mid-garment 

layers in a single product. The material is 

smooth, windproof and water-repellent on the 

outside. It also offers a soft surface and pleasant 

wearing comfort on the inside. Softshell 

jackets are elastic and ideal as workwear due 

to the freedom of movement they offer. 

Softshell light 

Breathable, durable, water-repellent and 

windproof material made of lightweight 

two-layer softshell with TRIACTIVE PRO technology. 

Suitable for all indoor and outdoor 

activities. 

Stretch 

The addition of LYCRA brand elastane gives 

fabrics more stretch – this increases comfort 

and freedom of movement. 

Sweat- and lined wear 

Single-surface, usually round-knitted knitted 

fabrics, in which an additional soft padding 

thread is incorporated so that it remains 

hidden by a cover thread on the front side. 

Finished goods have a right-knit on one side 

or may be very brushed on the rear. This 

brushing might cause lint formation on the 

inside of some sweat-wear but this ceases 

after the first wash. 

TENCEL 

TENCEL Lyocell fibers are made from 

sustainably grown wood in a process where 

the solvent required is recovered and reused. 

The fibers are known for their high strength, 

active breathing and comfort on the skin. 

Textile area weight 

The weight of a material in grams per square 

meter. This is an important indicator of the 

quality of textiles. 

Think Green – wash at 30 °C 

Nowadays, putting on a wash at 30°C is perfectly 

sufficient. The laundry still comes out 

clean because modern detergents are already 

active at low temperatures. The major bonus 

for the environment is that washing at 30°C 

saves up to 40% in terms of energy. That’s 

why HAKRO has launched the “Think Green – 

wash at 30°C” initiative. Now you can join us! 

TRIACTIVE 

Textiles made from this high-quality functional 

yarn wick moisture away to the outside at an 

accelerated rate thanks to the multi-channel 

technology of the special yarn construction – 

the ideal garment for high-intensity activities. 


TRIACTIVE PRO 

Stands for waterproof, windproof and vapour 

permeable fabrics. HAKRO uses TRIACTIVE PRO 

wherever our clothing needs to have very 

good breathability or vapour permeability and 

water-resistance. 

TRUE COLORS 

A high-tech color technology for the highest 

color fidelity and stability. This ensures 

our textiles are at their most lightfast and 

wash-resistant. At the same time, special 

color assurance processes ensure that the 

shades are identical for all models in the 

collection. And because this also applies to 

all delivery batches, you will always receive 

the same color tone if you order again – even 

years later. 

Vat dye 

Color that has no discernible solubility in water. 

For this reason, vat dyes are always used when 

extremely high demands are placed on the 

coloring. Garments dyed with vat dyes are 

boil-proof, chlorine- and color -fast and much 

less sensitive to sunlight. 

Washing and care recommendations 

All HAKRO textiles are provided with carefully 

developed care instructions. Please follow 

these carefully. 

Water column 

Unit of measurement for the impermeability of 

outer materials. The water column indicates 

how much water can weigh on the outer fabric 

before it lets moisture through. A one meter 

water column corresponds to approximately 

0.098 bars. Clothing with a water column of 

1,300 mm or more can be described as waterproof. 

Windproof 

Windproof textiles are designed to prevent 

the wind from cooling the wearer down too 

quickly. The higher the wind speed, the colder 

the perceived temperature. For example, an 

outdoor temperature of -1°C at a wind speed 

of 64 km/h is experienced as -21°C. This effect 

can be prevented by windproof textiles. 

Yarn 

HAKRO only uses quality sewing threads from 

well-known brand manufacturers. To produce 

such threads, yarns are refined, which means 

that at least two threads are twisted together, 

increasing the degree of tear resistance and 

the durability of the seams depending on the 

number of twists. 

YKK 

Manufacturer of high-quality zips, studs and 

eyelets. 

Zips 

HAKRO uses quality zips from YKK that don’t 

break even after they’ve been opened and 

closed umpteen times.

materials. This is time-consuming, but worth every effort. Our functional

set new standards in so many respects. 

20 seam variations and lots of stitches. 

There are 20 different variations of color-fast seams on our garments 

sewn with flexible branded thread – and with significantly more stitching 

than usual. In addition, our side seams are high quality and not made of 

tubular fabric. Darn it! You will never curse your seams again. 

Non-zippers and buttons that stay put. 

Some zips live up to their name. But who likes torn fasteners? We prefer 

to go for first-class zips from industry leader YKK. To avoid buttons 

falling off or breaking, ours are made of extra-strong, high-performance

largest and most comprehensive standard for the processing 

of organic cotton in the textile supply chain. GOTS defines environmental

a garment to carry the GOTS seal, it must be made of at least 

70% GOTS certified cotton. In addition, every processing company

Global Recycled Standard (GRS) The Global Recycled 

Standard is the world’s leading standard for the processing of 

recycled materials. GRS sets out high environmental and social 

requirements for the additional processing of fibers along the 

entire textile supply chain. These include the ILO core labour 

standards, including the prohibition of child labour. We have 

been certified according to the GRS criteria since 2020.
